January 13th Update

Dear Fods,

Congratulations to Chuck, Donna and Wyatt on Mackenzie's arrival. We are so excited for you, our prayers have been answered. Mackenzie is blessed to be joining such a wonderful family. We can't wait to see her-- you have to send a picture. My email is debteklits@comcast.net. Remember, we have all the baby beach stuff at the shore house and you are welcome to use it. The beach bubble is especially helpful.

Big congratulations to baby Isabelle. She was christened today. We are sooo bummed that we could not go there. Jessie, Walid and family went and she is the godmother. Hopefully, we will see her again soon.

Beth, sorry to hear about your mom. Hope she recovers quickly. I know being the good daughter that you are, that you are up there every chance you get.

Visitor Allison, I would love to meet you too. Unless I am at HUP -- my calendar is always open. Particularly at the moment. I am so dizzy these days, I can hardly walk let alone drive the car!

COD Eileen. I miss you guys so much and we loved your Christmas picture. You sound crazy busy as ever. We are glad to hear that Aunt Angie is getting better. Hopefully, she is putting on some weight.

May Day -- glad that you are enjoying the boys. It is hard to believe that Patrick is done his first semester. It flies by in a flash. We were looking at some old pictures the other day and we had a roll from that famous good bye party. We look like kids!

Unfortunately, I am still here at Penn. I was expecting to go home on Saturday but still have the spins. Not as bad as before, but I am too unsteady to go home. I am able to keep food down now. I have no hearing in my right ear and they are afraid that might be permanent. The dizziness could last for weeks or even months! They have scheduled a vestibular therapist. He deals with the dizziness and helps people learn how to compensate for it. I am supposted to start this physical therapy tomorrow. Also, I need an arteriogram MRA which will highlight the vessels in my brain because they think they saw something on the left side of my brain during the last MRI. Not to worry. I think that they are just being their over-cautious selves. So now I have to stay until at least Tuesday.

The sinusitis and bronchitis are not getting better and they switched the meds around today. I still think that I could be sitting on my own couch, with a fire and watching TV rather than being stuck here. I am not a happy camper.

I am eating like crazy and Joe is bringing me food from home. Junk food tastes just great. Must be the steroids that are making me so hungry. They have tripled the steroids again.

I hope all is well with you and your families. I hear there are a lot of nasty colds going around -- just look who is talking! I am going to try to walk a little in the hall with Joe's help. I did not get too far yesterday because of the spins but we will try again shortly.

Thank you for all the cards and blogs.

All my Love,

Debbie

mom-mom,

We had such a hectic today, but now Izzy is asleep in her bed and I am about to snuggle into mine!! We missed you so much but are looking forward to our next visit with you!!! It was so nice to see Jessie, Walid, and the kids. I cannot get over how big the kids have gotten. Everyone seemed to do well together, except a Kiernan and Emma had a little run in. I think what started as a little toddler flirting ended in Kiernan biting Emma, SORRY again for that Jess! .. Anyways.. Iz did good most of the day , but cried during the most of the christening mass, she sure does have a temper on her!!! That crying than led to her sleeping through the whole party which was nice b/c I had some time to enjoy the time with friend and family!
Well we hope you are feeling better soon and are worried/but stay hopeful that whatever they saw on the brain was just them being overcautious! Jess and I talked about maybe making a combined trip to PA together so that you can see all the grandbabies play together at once! ( and dont worry about room ... we will figure that out later!!)

Well MOM-MOM and POP-POP
we love you and have plenty of pictures coming your way!

Hi,

Great to see your post this morning. I'm sorry to hear you are still in the hospital. Hopefully you will be home soon.
So, I wonder what they think they saw on your brain? Hopefully, it was nothing. My fear with an MRI of my brain is there would be nothing there(get it) Well, I've had a pain on my right side since august. I thought it was my gall bladder from sitting on the beach eating popcorn all summer. The nagging pain continued until it really hurt last month.( I don't like to rush into anything) The ultra sound looked like kidney stones, I had a CT and now they say it looks like a cyst. I need to have it retested in July. Needless to say, I'm freaking out. I hate the words"it looks like" I think I will request a urologist. I think my PCP is good but since they couldn't say it was definitely a cyst I think I would like to talk to a specialist. so, thats where I'm at these days.

I'm sure you hated missing the Christening. It was nice that everyone else could go though. How nice that Jess is the GM.
Take care,
Betty

Oh my spinning Chizzie-

Hope this finds you steadily improving and feeling better. I have been praying for you and thinking about you like crazy.

Can't believe this latest business about your hearing and I pray that it will be a temporary condition that will improve in the fullness of time. And I'm glad the docs are being cautious and giving you a thorough "check-up from the neck up." I'm hoping and praying that all will be well and you will soon be home on your couch enjoying your fireplace and cozy nest.

I know you were TOTALLY bummed that you could't make Izzy's (hey that rhymes with Chizzie's! ha-ha)christening. How nice of Alli to post a blow-by-blow account for all of us to enjoy. I chuckled at Kiernan and Emma's toddler flirting. Kiernan must have been thinking - "she's so darn cute, I'd like a piece of that!" It's wonderful that Jess, Walid and the kids could attend. Please post pics when you get them - I would love to see little Miss Izzy's christening gown.

Well, Mr. Hal came home yesterday and today will be spent doing laundry and packing him up to take off again tomorrow. This time he's off to Ireland but it's a short trip - he'll be back on Friday. Don't know what next week holds. Soon it will be Mardi Gras! I am in a bit of a tizzy (hey-that rhymes with Chizzie. ha-ha)here about what to wear to the Bacchus Ball. It's a formal occasion and I am striking out when it comes to my rig. Wish you were here or I was there so you could help me out with my dilemma...

Well, I'll close for now. Know I love you and am thinking, thinking, thinking about you. Still praying for miracles large and small - and for angels to smooth your way. I love you, honey.

You dizzy--no way!

We miss you bunches. I am constantly trying to figure out a way to get up to Philly but the picture gets cloudier. Mom is doing better. She had a spell over the weekend. Serious shortness of breath post transfusion but it is all under control right now. I just left her an hour ago and she is a different person. She always keeps you as her inspiration! Me too!

Mere is home until next Monday. She is ready to go back. She misses the girls on her floor. Colin is working hard in the weight room and still has a thing for Miss Julie. Bee is going to be 15 this Saturday. Can you believe that! He will be able to get his drivers permit. OMG! Now you are really feeling old I am sure. I know it makes me feel old.

Talked to Mickey today. He and Bev are doing well. Sounds like Matthew really is doing well in Grad School at the University of Florida.

That's it for the updates. Alli, my Colin was baptized also on the same Sunday 17 years ago. The baptism of the Lord. Easy to remember. God Bless Izzy!

Take care...Love to Joe and the boys...and Jess and the fam.

XXOO to you! COD Eileen

Hi Fods -- it is Debbie. Rather than doing a full post, this is only a short update.

The MRA today, which is a high definition test to visualize the vessels in the brain. Unfortunately, they saw a small bleed in my brain. The neurologist came in and was very reassuring. Since I have no neuro deficits whatsoever, at this point they are not worried. We will see the head of neurology tomorrow, along with Dr. Porter and the ENT guy and they will make the appropriate decisions. The big concern is with the coumadin -- which is a blood thinner -- I am on for the blood clot in my chest. We may need to come off of that for the bleed in my head. They will sort all of this out tomorrow and hopefully, I can get out of here.

Alli's pictures of the Christening were fantastic and Isabelle and Alli looked great in every picture. Jessie said that it was like a wedding. I look forward to seeing all of the kids together. Maybe Jester can get them on the blog.

Love -- Debbie.

Oh Chizzie-

I hope you're okay. (I swear I got dizzy myself when I read that part about the "small bleed in your brain".) Here's hoping it was the coughing coupled with the coumadin that got it started. And I also hope that by the time you read this the Docs will have visited, decided to take you off the Coumadin and have signed your discharge orders.

Big prayers are winging your way for today, honey and I am especially praying for all the healing practitioners that will be watching over you today. Oh, and miracles small and large. ;>)

Today's word tells us to bend like the willow with deep inner strength, to be flexible and forgive - (good advice for this FOD every day ha-ha)

I love you.

Forgive

I am the flexible, forgiving person I was created to be.

The flexible willow tree has a deep, inner strength that encourages new growth and healing from any damage done to its graceful branches.

God’s love is the source of a strength and flexibility that helps me weather any storm. If I feel that I have been harmed by another’s words or actions, God’s love helps me forgive and keeps me strong.

In times of prayer, I nurture a deeper awareness of the love of God within me. With each prayerful moment, I become more conscious of Divine Love and its healing, strengthening power. I am the flexible, forgiving person I was created to be.

“I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love.”—Ephesians 3:16-17

P.S. Got an email from Jihad and guess what? He is going to be appearing on TLC's "Flip That House." this Saturday night. Exciting, huh? I thought you might like to check it out!

Hi Chiz-
Checking in again today. I'm just sitting down with a cup of coffee and the pc after shoveling the driveway and porch. (Also debating whether I should take an aleve - hah!) It started snowing sometime during the night and we probably got 3-4 inches. It was blowing pretty bad so it drifted heavily in spots. Looks nice now, though!

Wondering how you're doing today, honey. Hope that things are going smoothly and that you are feeling better and able to relax. Still praying for miracles, large and small and that your spins are subsiding. Love to all the T's and the FOD's.

Love to you, my friend.

K

P.S. Before I forget AGAIN, Jess, the Christmas pic of the kids is just adorable. I loved it! Thank you...

Hi Chizzie-

Just a quick note to say hi and I love you. Nothing new here to report - but that's a good thing. Hope this finds your spins subsiding and all quiet on the Teklits home front, too.

I'm thinking I might have to go BACK to the Mall today to see if I can get serious about finding something to wear to the Bacchus ball. I'm starting to feel just a teensy bit panicked about ending up having to wear my Mardi Gras costume. Past costumes have resembled clown clothes - fyi.

I did check out the pics of Izzy, Alli - OMG that Izzy is a sweetie! And such a fashion plate! Loved all her cute little outfits and the christening looked so beautiful and special. (Alli - you and Jess looked like fashion plates yourself! It's great to "see" everyone looking so happy and well.)

OAN - Mr. Hal and I are going to be spending next weekend down at the Brown Palace and attending the Western Stock show. The highlight will be seeing THE STEER OF THE YEAR on display at the hotel during afternoon tea. I kid you not. They're calling it "The Bull in the Tea Shop." How funny is that? So wishing you were here - although having tea with a bull might not exactly be your idea of fun. ha-ha.

Well, I better get rolling here if I'm going to the mall. Wish me luck. Love you - K

Hey Chiz - Just thinking of you and checking in to tell you so!

Hope you are having a quiet week, spending the time healing yourself and getting your strength back.

You were my lucky charm - after we spoke I did find something to wear to Bacchus. I scrounged around Dillards and found a black taffeta skirt and a coppery-brown taffeta shirt jacket deal (No coupons but marked way, way down. ha-ha.) The jacket has a pleated, ruff collar that stands up ala the Queen. You know what I mean? I'm thinking that will work great with all the Mardi Gras beads. P.S. You won't be seeing me on any "Girls Gone Wild" videos.

Hope everyone is okay back your way - I'm keeping you all in my prayers.

Waiting for Mr Hal to come home from back east. We head down to Denver to see the Steer of the Year tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you, honey.

Hi Debbie,
How are you feeling? I missed your small post. Sorry about that. I've been checking the regular post and when I didn't see anything I decided to read the comments for some info and there it was! Well, at this point you have probably heard everything and are used to hearing scary things so a "little" brain bleed? You can handle that! Scares the crap out of me though.I'm looking forward to hearing some good news from you soon. Try to stay warm in this frigid weather.
Love,
Betty

Oh, my gosh, Debbie. I lost your blog address on this new computer of Terry's, but I had e-mailed it to myself at work; then I changed jobs and all the stuff I had was lost and a tech guy helped me recover it! So, I found you again and so thankful. I am in the same school corporation (Carmel), but I am at the high school as the athletic secretary which I did at LaVille for 16 years. I am in heaven - 4,000 students there; there were only 400 students at LaVille. Challenging, but wonderful. It is a 12-month job with good benefits. I have more vacation and I so want to visit when I come to see Jen and Thomas. They are fine and so happy. And Shelly's wedding was wonderful in November - Matt is awesome too! I am so blessed. If you read your e-mail next week, I will send pictures of both. I didn't know if you checked it. But I will do it on Monday, the 28th. I miss you and will keep in touch now that I have the blog back! Love you, Cheryl Crone

Hello Debbie and Joe,
I hope that you are feeling a little better. We are finally home and glad to be home with Mackenzie.
We got home last Friday night and Mackenzie slept the entire two
flights home. Thank Goodness!!
She is so darling. We still can not
believe that she is finally here and that she is ours.
We want to thank you so very much for the most adorable outfit for Mackenzie. It was so thoughtful of you to think of her. We can not wait for you to meet her. I can not wait to put that oh so cute outfit on her. She is doing well.
Wyatt is adjusting to her, we think he loves his puppy a little more but....we know as she gets older and shows him a little attention he will be all over her.
How is Isabella doing? I bet she is getting so big. They grow so fast. Please tell them we were asking for her.
You are never far from our daily thoughts ~ Debbie. We always have you in our daily prayers. God Bless You!
Love and thanks again,
Chuck,Donna,Wyatt and Mackenzie

Hey Chiz -

I cannot believe that blogger ate another one of my posts...

Hope things are going better by you and that you are resting and getting stronger everyday...

We're back from seeing the Steer of the Year - his name is Maynard and he went for $80,000 at auction. That's some cow, huh?

The National Western Stock Show was great fun, too. We saw the rodeo, the exhibits, the livestock sales - the whole shooting match. We really enjoyed the day. Would have stayed longer to see the Stock Dog trials but had to get back to the Palace for tea. Hah! Doesn't "back to the palace for tea" sound swell?

You would love the Brown Palace, honey. Ask Mr. Hal - he'll tell you. (after I kept saying that to him over and over again throughout the weekend.) It's old and stately and full of history and tradition. Their champagne brunch is pretty good, too.

You were on my mind all weekend, honey. Sending you good vibes. I'll try and call again before we head out to Mardi Gras (Thursday).

Love you, honey.

Hah-hah, mdf. I won't even look at my own boobs in the mirror much less show them on Bourbon St...(until I get a few cocktails on board - just kidding. Really.)

Talked to our Chiz briefly today. It's chemo at home and lots of rest for our girl. Her counts are looking good! woo-hoo! Her ears are bugging the heck out of her and spins persist. Boo-hiss! She's very happy to be home.

In that spirit I just had to post the Daily Word...

Love you Chiz. Do what you need to do to get stronger, lots of rest, good eats and no distress! Still praying for miracles large and small and that enlightened, healing individuals continue to help you on your healing path.

Appreciation
I live this day with a cheerful heart and in thanksgiving to God. I choose to make this day special, and I will as I act on opportunities to express my appreciation for my blessings.

As I begin my day, I look at my surroundings. My home and my office or work space are filled with pictures and other objects that have special meaning for me.

My surroundings reflect the grateful attitude with which I approach life every day. Family, friends, and pets are unique blessings in my life. Each one touches my life and enriches it in a unique and valued way.

I live this day with a cheerful heart and thanksgiving to God.

Tomorrow I will have even more opportunities to show that an appreciative approach to life is one that richly blesses me.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.”—Colossians 3:16

Debbie,

Thinking about you and glad that you are home. At least the weather is warming up alittle and the sun is bright today! I am getting HUGE and am ready to get Matthew Thomas out of me!!! This is seriously harder than it looks, I dont know how you had 3... my legs, and fingers are like sausages and my bitchiness factor is at an all time high. YIKES! But I should not be complaining b/c everything is actually progressing nicely & we both have our health. I hope that you are feeling more comfortable and your ears and everything feel better. Just 3 more weeks and you'll see a new addition!!!

For those of us that went to catholic school and need a good laugh...

Little Zachary was doing very badly in math. His parents had tried everything... Tutors,
mentors, flash cards,
special learning centers. In short, everything they could think of to help his math.

Finally, in a last ditch effort, they took Zachary down and enrolled him in the local Catholic school. After the first day, little Zachary came home with a very serious look on his face. He didn't even kiss his mother Hello.
Instead, he went straight to his room and started studying. Books and papers were spread out all over the room and little Zachary was hard at work. His mother was amazed. She called him down to dinner.

To her shock, the minute he was done, he marched back to his room without a word, and in no time, he was back hitting the books as hard as before. This went on for some time, day after day, while the mother tried to understand what made all the difference. Finally, little Zachary brought home his report card. He quietly laid it on the table, went up to his room and hit the books. With great trepidation, his Mom looked at it and to her great surprise,
little Zachary got an "A" in math. She could no longer hold her curiosity.

She went to his room and said, "Son, what was it?
Was it the nuns?" Little Zachary looked at her and shook his head, no. "Well, then," she replied,
Was it the books, the discipline, the structure, the uniforms? "WHAT WAS IT ALREADY?"

Little Zachary looked at her and said, "Well, on the first day of school when I saw that guy NAILED TO THE PLUS SIGN, I knew they were NOT fooling around."

XOXO MEG
