Ever Hear of Labyrinthitis??

Dear Fods,

Since our last post, we had a great visit with Jessie and the grandbabies and they went home on New Year's Eve. Unfortunately, shortly thereafter I got a very bad cold. The cold developed into a bad case of sinusitis, my ears got plugged and you know the drill with all of that.

On Monday, we went to Penn to start the next round of dacogen, however, when I showed up, they would not start the chemo because of my very bad cold. Dr. Porter arranged for me to see and ENT @ HUP on Tuesday afternoon. By that time, my ears were completely plugged up and I had vertigo so bad that I was getting sick all of the time. The ENT diagnosed me with the labyrinthitis which is a viral infection of the inner ear.

On Wednesday morning, Dr. Porter decided to admit me to monitor me more closely, give me IV fluids and IV steroids. Of course they also did the obligatory MRI and CAT scan. I expect that I will be in HUP until atleast the weekend, but hopefully not much longer than that. While I love all of the nurses here, I do not want to be here anymore.

Tonight is the first time that I have eaten in three days, so maybe that is a good sign. Joe brought me some Potbelly potato soup and I am even eating a little of the HUP food for dinner.

Thank you for all of your cards and blogs.

Debbie sends her love to all.

Yippee! Aunt Angie and I get to be first. I am over at her house checking in on her. She is doing OK with some usual bumps in the road. Her white count seems to be responding to the Revlimid but we are still dealing with the Hgb and platelet issue. Time will tell.

We are back from Dave's nephew's wedding in Dallas. Fun was had by all. The boys are back in school and Mere is trying to find things to do until January 21 when she returns to SLU. I keep mentioning laundry and such and she isn't real excited about that.

We were so excited to see a new blog. We are glad to see you are really doing fairly well. Our imagination runs wild here between blogs.

You are still Mom's motivation to keep her head up. All our love to the family and a warm hug for you.

Love COD Eileen and Aunt Angie

Mom-mom,

We are so sad that you are not feeling well. I know how bad being dizzy feels and I cannot imagine constant vertigo!!! We are also sad we won't be seeing you this weekend, but you are where you need to be so you can get better!! And don't worry we will visit soon and then you can have plenty of cuddle time with Izzy. Ok so we love you and hope that you are out of the hospital sooner rather than later. Feel better.

Love you Always, XOXO
Allison and Isabelle

Dear Debbie,
So sorry to hear that you are back at HUP but glad that you had the holidays with those beautiful grandchildren. My mom fell on Christmas Eve and broke her pelvis. She has been in the hospital, transfered to John Heinz Rehab, back to the hospital and now is at a nursing home getting rehab. No wonder she is confused! She is doing well with therapy and we hope she will be home soon. Needless to say, I have been up there a lot. This is the first weekend I won't be going. I have two nieces who are going up so I will take a breather this time. I am getting over a nasty stomach virus. Couldn't eat for 5 days without it coming back up, even dry toast. Great diet, though. I lost 5 pounds in five days! Today was the first time I was able to keep something down. A small salad filled me up. When I get sick looking at a plate of fudge, you know I'm sick!!!!
Hope this stay at HUP is short and you are soon back at home snuggling on your couch with no vertigo and no pain. love you lots.
Love, hugs and kisses,
Beth

Wasn't it a David Bowie movie? I've never heard of Labrynthitis before, but at least they figured out what was wrong. I've been checking the blog and figured that no news was good news when there hadn't been anymore posts. I'm sorry you are stuck back in HUP, but at least you are starting to feel better. You are slways in my prayers!

Debbie,
Sorry you had to be admitted but you need the IV drugs to get rid of the vertigo. Glad you were able to eat today, that is a great sign that you are on the road back to Tennis Way. Brian and I had a great trip to Houston visiting Ang and Eileen... we were very impressed with Houston, it is a really interesting city. Ang and Eileen's home is just beautiful and their new condo in Galvaston is breathtaking with its gorgeaus view of the ocean and the island.
I hope you get home VERY soon and even more importantly I hope you are feeling MUCH MUCH better. Know that you are much loved... praying for you,
Patty

Hi Deb and Joe and all,
I hope that you are feeling better and that the soup tastes good! Over here, things are hoppin as usual. Deb, Stephanie turned 17 on Christmas day (yikes...) and you guessed it correctly, we went the very next day and she passed her drivers test. (double yikes..) So far she has done well. I have to admit that maybe once or twice while driving with her during her practice I may have put my feet through the floorboards a la the Flintstones to try to stop the car...
I hope that you get to come home soon!

love,
Rick

OMG - I just typed a huge comment and it vanished into the ether...ooh that leaves me so steamed. No time to recreate now, Chiz. Have to hop to make my beauty appointment - and lord knows I don't need to be late for that! Just wanted you to know that I love you and am praying for you. Called earlier this week and spoke to Mo, she filled me in on her news and your news. Unbelievable. Just unreal. You sounded so great just last week - what was it Thursday or Friday? This labrynthitis sounds perfectly horrid, Chiz. Vertigo - Ugh. N&V - double ugh. I'm so happy you're feeling up to eating again - that's got to be a good sign, no? Here's hoping that you'll be home (and back on the Dacogen)soon. I love you, honey. More later - K

deb.. at least this is treatable,, but what a drag to have the nausea and all that goes with it..hope your home and get over being dizzy soon,,
patrick sent me some pics from his mishap last night, apparently he was riding around on his roomates longboard and when he went to get off, he flpped it off into his lip.. now,, not sure who diagnosed it. but they figured since it only bleed badly for about 7 min it didn't need stitches..
mark is at baseball practice, hoping to have a scrimmage tomorrow.. last i spoke to patrick he was on his way to the beach, so his lip must be better..
i hope you get out really soon. prayers are your way..love,mdf

Hello Debbie,
I am so sorry to hear that you are in the hospital. I hope that you get to go home by the weekend.
So glad to hear that you spent some great time with Jessie and the grandkids.
Well.....we have a beautiful little girl born on January 8th (my dad won the poll - he picked this date which it makes it even more special) she was born at 5:53 in the morning - she was 7 pounds and one ounce and 20 inches long.
She is beautiful! Her name is Mackenzie Leia Connell!!! We flew out to California on the 8th and went right to the hospital to see her after not sleeping for almost 48 hours...but it was worth it.
We are all here even the big Wyatt who just loves her. We need to say here for at least until the 18th.
UGH!!! We want to go home so bad to be with family. My mom can not stand it that she can not get her hands on Mackenzie. Well if you have an email we can send you a picture. We can not wait for you to meet her in Ocean City...look I already have her on the beach!
Well wanted to share this great news with you. Please always know that you are in our constant thoughts and prayers. Hope that you are feeling well enough to get out of the hospital to go home.
Love and a great big hug to you,
Chuck,Donna,Wyatt and Mackenzie

Hey Debbie,
I was sorry to read you're back in the hospital. Hopefully you've been discharged by now. Art and I just took a ride to the Conowingo Dam to look for bald eagles. Believe it or not we saw so may we stopped counting! It was a short ride from our house and hard to believe we've never been there. Now, I'm going to Macy's. I hate the mall but I need to drag myself there to return about 10 things that I bought for New Year's Eve. I can never decide so I buy a bunch of stuff and let Art decide which he likes best or hates least which is sometimes the case. Then I have to take the rest of the stuff back. I have to say he made a great choice this time.

Well, I'm off to the mall.
Keep us posted.
Betty

PS. To Donna- Congratulations on the baby. We sit on 40th street too so I'll look for you this summer.
