December 8, 2007 Update

Dear Fods,

Debbie finished her first week of the new chemo and she seems to have gotten through it with flying colors. Her WBC is normal, hmg is fair, but her platelets need work. She is getting tired now which is a natural reaction to the chemo. Many thanks to Fods Eileen, Ron and Pam who helped this week with the rides, it makes a huge difference to us.

Thanks to Fod Pam for the great pork dinner on Friday night. That tray vanished in a few moments.

The big issue for Debbie this week was a debilitating pain in her lower back that emulates down her legs and makes walking very painful. This is a new development that came on last Sunday. While she is able to hobble around the house by holding on to walls and rails, she needs a wheel chair for any type of extended walking and we have a walker in the bedroom for the evenings. Fod George let us borrow his mother in law's wheel chair and that helped a lot this week at HUP. Finding a wheel chair on the right floor is scarcer than hens teeth, so it made our visits much easier. Also, HUP allowed us to call from the road to order the chemo and the chemo was typically there when we finally arrived on the 15th floor.

Debbie will be nadering down this week as the chemo does its job. Most likely there will be a trip or two to HUP for blood or plateletes. We hope that this new chemo will be more gentle than the last round and that she will tolerate the downsides better than the last drug.

Debbie continues to decorate the house here and there as she is able and she is looking forward to the holiday season. Her indominable spirit is an inspiration to us all.

Thank you for your cards, blogs, calls, visits and rides. They help us more than you can imagine.

Debbie sends her love to all.

Well, one week down... I'm glad to read Debbie is doing ok after her first week of chemo. I'm sorry about the lower back pain. Hopefully that won't last long. Poor Debbie, it's always something. Thanks for posting the update. Good luck this week and please keep your spirits up.

Debbie and Joe,
2nd commenter (1st when I started)! Go me. No, not go me but YOU GO DEBBIE! It's really nice to hear some good news and thru it all you continue to decorate the house for Christmas. I have no right to complain about anything.
I got up phase one of the outside lights today. It's still in the 80's and still seems wrong but I know what the weather's like up there so I'll endure it. Besides I'm getting older and I'm still a clutz. I'd have probably slipped on the ice and broken a hip by now.
I'm thinking of making a peace sign out of lights and putting it on plywood on my front yard instead of a snowman. My kids think it's a dumb idea, so of course, I'm gonna do it. Once I figure out how to link our photo page to this I will. I have old scanned pictures of the old crowd on it. Along with Debbie and Joe when they were dating and Greg C with hair.
Debbie. Keep inspiring us. Joe, you're the man.
I leave you with a dumb joke.

A set of Jumper Cables walks into a bar. The bartender says "I'll serve you but don't start anything."

Love you all and Merry Christmas.

Bob

Dear Debbie,
I continue to read your blog faithfully. Hope you can take something for your pain. Always thinking of you and praying for you---always!
Took our Macy (to Macy's :) in Chicago yesterday. Had lunch under the beautiful Christmas Tree in the Walnut room. This year it was decorated by Martha Stewart. It was gorgeous. Also took in the musical Wicked. That was fabulous. It held Macy's attention from beginning to end. She was Dorothy this year for Halloween and has a real interest in all the characters.
Hoping you continue to enjoy this Christmas season and hope your back/legs feel better very very soon.

good, week one done.. now you don't get more chemo for 25 or 30 more days, right? I hope that pain in the back subsides soon,,
Patrick is home and enjoying sleeping in and not worrying about classes or assingments.. he has finished his first quarter of college! he is a little bored though, cause most of his friend don't get home till the 21st...
Mark had batting lessons again today, then the gym.. he is trying to get ready for conditioning which will start in about 4 weeks...
I have put out some decorations.. but am being careful with our 110 lb german shepherd dog.. he is curious still, now tim.. he continues to buy things for our front yard! We now have 4 inflatable santas on the front lawn(newest addition is 8ft tall), a new nativity scence, had to get the 3 wise men to go with it.. then had to surround it with those swirly type christmas trees, then we have the luminaries lining the edge of the lawn, and the candy cane, present and santa lights along another part of the lawn.. but.. you know,, our house is complete now with the music that plays in time with the house lights.. you can turn that sucker up pretty loud! ha.. im starting to worry that when people drive down our street they slow down and say "oh my" cause they are at lost for what else to say....
deb.. i hope things stay stable this week, and the back pain goes away.. and joe.. i didn't even know chicken or hens had teeth! love..mdf

Love you Debbie! You are the strongest person I know. Like that should surprise me!

It's Monday and school was canceled as we are in the midst of an ice "storm". The boys are loving it as they have lots of last minute projects due this week before finals next week.

Today is Mere's last full day of classes but her finals do not end until the 18th.

All else is well. Aunt Angie is experiencing some minor bumps but looks to you for inspiration.

Lots of love to all of you!

Miss you! COD Eileen

Hi Debbie: Just checking in to see how the weekend was after the first round of chemo. I know what it feels like with back pain that radiates down the leg - had that this August and it is painful as all heck. Good luck with this week and keep those spirits up as usual. Waiting for Ali to come home from school for the holidays on Friday - can't wait. Hope you see your little ones soon. Love Shelly

Debbie,

I called a few times this week but no answer. So I started to panic and I ran to the blog. It sounds like you are in the midst of things again. You have been on my mind so much lately - your home is always so beautiful at this time of year! I love to sit with you surrounded by your crazy Santas!

The kids are slowly arriving home. Sarah got here first and she fully expects that we will bake continuously for the next couple of days. Richard is going to get David tomorrow (Sunday). It's been awhile since we've seen David - I am so excited. Megan is off to Vermont to ski for a few days but she will be back in time for Christmas. Our little house will be bursting at the seams.

I miss you. Please call if I can help in any way!

Love,
Susan

Dear Debbie,
We are glad to hear that you are feeling okay after the new round of chemo. We think of you often and keep you in our prayers.
We are trying to get ready for that phone call that can come any day now. I started packing the baby's clothes the other day...of course I overpacked....big time!
We hope that maybe she will make it to Christmas so that Wyatt does not have to wait for 10-14 days for
Christmas. We will have to stay there for at least 10-14 days in CA. Well we are so excited but so busy with so much to do. Well please know that we hope that you are enjoying all the beautiful decorations and have a wonderul Christmas with your family. Please tell Joey we were so touched by his thank you card. Hope all is well with little Isabelle. Take care and sending a big hug your way, my friend.
Love ya,
Chuck,Donna and Wyatt

Debbie:

Thanks for giving Mom a call. She just can't get over you! Always thinking of others. Monday went well. No concerns. As we are finding out...the Crispino thing is just indescribable!

Think of you constantly and would love to sneek up. But it looks like I am anchored her while we figure out Mom's health issues.

Big hug! You should get our card today if you haven't already.

Love to all in your family. Special squeeze for Joe.

Got your card today.. thank you.. i haven't done cards in year but still love to recieve them.. selfish of me?
work is winding down, but not without me helping to wind up these kindergardners.. i try to bring in some christmas item every day.. a talking santa. christmas tree.. christmas singing box.. something.. should have them good and ready by friday.. plus,, we aren't "allowed " to bring sweets for kids now.. new wellness program that they have started out here..instead of cupcakes for thier b-day parties.. you can bring carrot stix and ranch.. unfortunately.. i couldn't resist the soft xmas sugar cookies to bring in.. hopefully one each won't ruin them...
Mark also gets off on friday and is so looking forward to it.. being in school while his brother is home isn't fun..
Patrick is going to a debutant ball on sat. night in sacramento.. its a charity for the shriners.. he should have fun, and has gotten a tux for it.!! hair is still a little lengthy.. he seems to think if he wears a beenie it will help curl his hair..
friday night, we are having a little open house, although i say little now,, patrick posted a bullentin on his myspace about it.. mark is still shy about asking anyone over, so..we'll see what kind of a turnout we'll have, b ut none of the food will go to waste cause alot of the college kids will be home and around...
so, thats it.. i pray every day that you are doing okay with this new chemo.. you really are an inspiration to all of us.. love.. mdf

Dear Debbie, Joe and family,
We wanted to take a moment to wish
you, Joe and your family a very
Merry Christmas. I hope you enjoy every minute with those precious grandchildren of yours.
So far it looks like we will be home for Christmas and not in California....but one never knows anything can happen in just two days!
Wyatt is keeping his fingers crossed that we make it to Christmas....after that it does not matter to him. Enough about us... Please know that you are in our daily thoughts and prayers. Thank you so very much for the beautiful card. Have a warm and wonderful Christmas. God Bless you and your family during this very special time of the year!
My friend, I am sending you great big hug!!!

Love from,
Chuck,Donna and Wyatt(Wyatt is sitting next to me and he said and Bailey too, our puppy)
