Better to be safe...

Hello dear FODs, mom spent the weekend with a hacking cough and a low grade fever. She called HUP this morning to ask if she could have an antibiotic and they asked her to come in so they could evaluate her. They drew labs, and found that mom's WBC was .9, HGB was 8.7, and platelets were 2k. This after four days of neupogen shots - we don't have an explanation for that just yet.

Mom had a temp of 101.7 so HUP chose to admit her. While waiting for her room, mom received 2 units of blood, platelets, and the team began the IV antibiotics. HUP plans to keep mom through Thursday to monitor her symptoms. Mom is convinced she has sinusitis and bronchitis - with no WBC this could quickly turn into pneumonia. The docs have a chest x-ray ordered for this evening and a sinus x-ray in the morning. We'll keep you posted as we learn more.

Thanks so much for your love and prayers.

Jessie

thanks jessie for the update.. as much as your mom can't stand being the hospital, it sounds like this might be a good precaution, especially if there is any hint of a possible pneumonia..
deb.. rest as much as you can while you are there so you can get out fast! Hope the antibiotics knock the hell out of this new possible infection!
more , and a bit more intense prayers are headed your way..love,,mdf

Thanks for the update, we all appreciate hearing the latest news. Sounds like Mrs. T and the team at HUP have a pretty good handle on these things by now, hopefully it will go smoothly! Rest up! =)

Hi Deb,
It sounds like you caught what I have. Although I made it to the beach I was sick with sore throat, cough and sinus. I still have it. I feel horrible so I imagine in your condition to get that on top of it would be the pits. Let the hospital take good care of you. You'll feel great once the antibiotics kick in.
Get well,
Betty

Hi Honey-
Hope this finds you pumped up with blood products and the antibiotics doing their work - knocking out the respiratory gunk and making you feel better. Know that being back at HUP is not your idea of a good time but hope your stay will be brief and productive.

We made it to Denver on Sunday and have been running around signing papers and lining up the movers on this end. We did the walk through on the house yesterday - it was chaos central as the present owners were still moving out. Today we sign the final papers and get the keys, even though the official close is tomorrow. Mr. Hal has to go to KC and Emporia KS over the next few days so will miss most of the moving fun - isn't that funny how that worked out????

I am thinking of you all the time and sending you my love.

More later - K

Debbie:

Checked out your Light the Night site to get to see you and Jessie in that great photo.

I glanced up to the picture I have above my desk at work to see you and the babies on the beach in that, what I call "Dove Ad". It was great to see an updated picture of you. I have just got to get up to see you. This is so frustrating. I will have to talk to Aunt Angie and see if I can convince her to take a long weekend up East. She needs to see her sisters as well as some nieces and nephews. I will keep you posted on the progress.

Hang in there while you have this brief stay at HUP.

As I am sitting here I am having a visual of Joe, my Brendan, you and I in your kitchen with that humongous Philly Cheese sandwich. Brendan has yet to find anything like it anywhere.

Today is his first day of high school. I am doing well. Though next week Wednesday we take Mere to St. Louis University. That will be a different story. Keep me in your prayers as letting go is more than just difficult for me. (Mary Foley can relate)

Lots of love and hugs and kisses....COD Eileen
