What Great stories !!!

Hello Fellow Bloggers,

So good to hear from you all. I love all of your stories. Alison you had me weeping or "seeping" as my friend would say about you and your husband sneaking a day off to be together and
christmas shop. I have a very good husband but we only Xmas shopped together last year. I was not yet diagnosed but was feeling very sick and my Dr. ( Bob,of Mo and Bob) wanted me to stay home and take it easy as some of my labs were abnormal but not quite clear yet that i had leukemia. Follow that ? Anyway i said i was gonna just run to a few stores, and he said no way! But i am very strong willed and said i was goin. Well he came with me in case anything would happen. (i would get these sudden fevers and chills and abd. pain that would come on very quickly ) So we left the house at 7:30 am stopped at Starbucks for tea and coffee and headed to the mall. No looking and feeling sweaters. "just pick one Deb".Got a few things very quickly and off to Target to get our precious Grandson a wagon. Got that ,and some dvd's and cd's for the boys and on to Old Navy for my boys and niece and nephew. Joe got a big carry all bag and we started stuffing gloves and hats and sweaters in the bag. We were home by 1pm. That was the quickest i've ever shopped in my life. i already had girlfriends gifts as i by them throughout the year when i see something they would like i pick it up.I was on a mission this summer to get as many gifts as i could because i will sorta be on house arrest for 100 days after transplant. Thats mid nov. if all goes well. Another reason to beat this as my husband will not know what to do with all the loot i've collected. I even have my tea party favors bought and ready to go. But boy oh boy do i regress. this was about Alison and her sweet date with her hubby. I think if i told joe we would doa ittle shopping and then bar hop he would be more willing. But not before saying "bar hop, Who are you and where is my wilf" to suggest bar hopping......Bev i loved your story about Australia. You must wear that get up to the cosmo party. That could be a game we could play. For those of us that don't know each other. trying to figure out who everyone is. Of course i knoe everyone cept. Alison. And bevwill be a dead giveaway. Now where did that come from"dead Giveaway" Friend Kris would you get on that please..... Rick enjoyed your story. Was glad you could show it off to the folks. Did mom REALLY throw a pork chop at you? Suzanne i wish i could help you pack. I bet you are coming across all the girls old dresses and toys and photos. When i clean my closet i always get sidetracked looking at old photos. And i saved way too much. I'm so excited for you moving to a new place....Mo and Bob please let me know if you hear anything about Bill....
Thankfully not too much to report from here. Still not sleeping, even with 2 sleeping pills last nite. A sore throat persists but not the dreaded mucousitis. No fevers or chills but if i could get out of this room iwould give someone all the money in my wallet. Speaking of wallets. mine is at home but if you were to look in it, probably $100.00 in cash, numerous credit cards (janet does that hurt your credit rating?) and receipts from my early Christmas shopping and my nurses license., my ss card drivers license and my bone marrow registry card. Doubt that anyone will want me as a donor now. Also pictures of the grandbabies. Well i'd better close this before it vanishes into thin air.
istarted this at 7:30 am justtakes forever to complete...love you all......Debbie

Well, i guess a sore throat is okay as long as it doesnt get worse... first of all, no exotic trips here, mostly to disneyland. magic mountain, or disneyworld,, one of my favorites was to Boston.. We took the boys there a few years ago, showed them where tim grew up, cape cod,and quite a few trips to fenway! even took the tour which put us on (the field!
And my wallet.. well let me tell you.. im very impressed with the amount of cash you all carry.. if, and when i take money out of the atm, it lasts about as long as walking away from the machine to one of my sons..i also have pictures, insurance cards, drivers liscense with my fake weight on it, and some charge cards...
Patrick has to go to school today to help out at the staff's luncheon, and mark went to work with tim.. there is a lady that works with tim that got mark 50 cents autograph.. so he went ot get it and thank her.. she apparently saw him on a flight, and told him mark liked his music.. that was nice of her!
well, the puppy continues to chew, but on the most part hes a very sweet mellow puppy.. he's gained a pound a day since we've gotten him.. im starting to picture that dog on sandlot!!
Listen, deb, if you get any meds today and are on the phone, hang up and take them!,call your friends back after.. ha.
well, 2 more days till school starts.. deb.. think of some great places that mark and tim should go to when they go to notre dame in nov.. will it be really cold then? its the first week of nov??
hope your day is better.. love,,,mdf... p.s... mo, i think bev has become the queen of long blogs now,, even with your "sisters blog"...

Debbie & Joe,
After following the recommendations of the family tech guru's, Larry & Bob, a new cable modem was procured & installed. Hopefully this will resolve the Net problems of the past 10 days. Yesterday, we were given a nice tour of Rick & Phyllis's home & it is the epitome of creatively utilizing house space. The new pantry addition is something to behold; it should suffice to store the amount of food necessary to be on hand for a growing "chow hound" such as Shane. The color combinations in the various rooms are impressively coordinated in a rainbow of colors. The lasagne dinner was excellent & both Shane & I were ready for a good meal. Yes, Mom did throw a wrapped pork chop at Rick, but keep in mind that Mom's best fastball is no more than a wafting summer breeze on a tse-tse fly. So there was no harm done to either Rick or the pork chop. Shane is having a great week watching the Babe Ruth World Series Baseball Championship in the park within his neighborhood. Teams from as far as Australia, besides teams from the USA are competing, & the Babe Ruth ball games are more exciting to see than the hapless Phillies games. We hope that your sore throat has subsided & that you're having another one of the days we can put into the "Good days" slot. We can't imagine the feeling associated with being in isolation for the length of time that you have. You must have the will power of a mule to accept what they're putting you through. Stay resolute while we continue praying for you & all of your fine family. Love, Mom & Dad.

Oh Chiz-

LOL about your Christmas shopping trip w/Joe. I remember well your amazement at the time it DIDN"T take.

Sorry to hear about your sore throat, not sleeping and general malaise, sweetie. With my goofy cold hanging on I feel like I am channeling it for you, baby! Hah -if only I could. I would take some of it on for you, honey. Thinking about my fave Delacroix, The Good Samaritan here. Remember that?

That not sleeping thing has to be so working your nerves. Maybe Joe should sneak in a flask of Bushmills and make you a hot toddy before bed? It wouldn't take long in your microwave! I bet Allison even has a good recipe.

Missed Rice's today - after we signed off last night I remembered my appointment with the local "Honey Dipper". (a-hem)I am happy to report that all is well on that score.

Here's what I've been able to find so far on your dead giveaway:

DEAD GIVE-AWAY noun [late 19th century and still in use] (originally U.S.) an unmistakable and definitive clue.

And then there's this. File it under MISCELLANEOUS GROANERS AND PUNS:

What's the definition of a will?

A dead giveaway.

Know you are chomping at the bit to get out of that place honey. Too bad your room is right across from the nurse's station. You could make a dummy in your bed and sneak out under cover of darkness. You'd have to be back in time for that charming 3am bloodwork routine. Don't think it will work though with all those nurses right across the way. Drat!

Love you and thinking about you - K

Dear Debbie,
Sore throat and lack of sleeping. try to picture the same symptoms but because you just had a night in an Irish pub meeting all your new found friends!!! all joking aside, we on the "outside" know there that it can not be funny putting up with what you do... you are so brave.. keep on trucking Debbie you can and will do it... you are a Teklits dam it (oh hell I even had an American accent when I typed that lol!)....

This morning I called my best buddie Pauline in NY (we worked in Ireland together and she came to the US a year before me)... She knows of your blog and it's connetion with Lynne.. and how important you are to me... (she knows me long enough to accept my whacky ways...).. well I HAD to tell her about Mrs. T snr throwing the pork chop at Rick... she was literally crying laughing... I had to pull up the site, read the corresponding blogs and she couldn't breath.. the sense of humor was sooo much like ours at home but most of all we were LOVING Mrs T snr we couldn't stop laughing...

The rest of my day was wonderful, spent it with my Scottish friend Sally at a beauty salon (oh yeah baby!)... both of us cashing in our Christmas gift cards we have not had a chance to take advantage of all year...

Funny thing is, after lovely manicure/massage/hair.. the works... we went for a lovely meal on the water and I told Sally about your blog and the funny stories... she looked me straight in the eye and said "why did you enter her place" .. and want on to say.. if she had of clicked your blog she would have immediately clicked off it... and I looked at her right in the eye and said "why would you do that!".... lol.. I know WE all know why I didn't just "walk away/ or click away".. and Sally is not in a positon to understand... but it did make me very very grateful, that Debbie and your FODs CODs and KODs have made me welcome... thanks again...

mdf.. I love your "fake weight" comment on the drivers licence.. I'm with you.. my drivers licence weight is my WW goal lol!! Mrs. T. snr.. you are my hero.. I love you! ... Bev.. some day I will be as brave as you and lead a "tour" up Ayers Rock... Mo and Dr. Bob... I know you have been through the ringer this year also, but know little (well actually nothing) of the medical reason.. just know the candles are being lit for you two also...

Oiche Maith Debbie, night night all FoDs & Co... look out for rascals throwing pork chops...

lots and lots of love and prayers to you Debbie...

Hi Deb,
I hope that by the time you read this you have had a good nights sleep and that your throat feels better. I am counting down the days along with you and am getting really anxious to hear you are on your way home! One good thing about being cooped up in your room is that you have time to read and re-read all the blogs. I try to retain all the info on your blog, and, since I read your blog late at night, I often find that I missed something that is interwoven over the next few days (call it either my age or exhaustion). I can't believe I have to go back and find the Rick and the pork chop event. How did I miss it? I AM allowed to read about pork chops...even if I should not eat them...lol. I really can't wait to meet the FODs and CODs and Alison (you stand alone- truly a gift!). Deb- keep up the positive energy!!
Love and prayers,
Cindy G.

Well, I'm home in time to say goodnite..the party was a great success, and EVERYONE there (about 80 people) asked for you and wanted detailed updates..you are sorely missed and truly loved my dear girl ...Bob and Mo were there and everyone was happy to see him too..it was like old home week!!! Rich
Friedman sends love and hello's , he feels badly that he hasn't kept in better touch with you...Mike Z was dancing his buns off ,you would have loved to watch ,he was a hoot...I'll give you a detailed report on the phone ,as I don't want to bore everyone too much. I hope this finds you feeling better, I really hate sore throats and hate the thought of you enduring one ...are you gargaling with salt water ( the tried and true old time remedy)?... it does help if you can stand the gaging...well I am done in..will have to read fellow bloger's blog in the A.M. in the meantime ,niteall, prayers, hugs, and love:)Bev

Debbie,

it was soooo good to talk to you today. FODs, called Deb today and I can vouch that she's really missing all her buds....we had a good long chat. She sounds chipper and strong and is keeping that pecker way up. I don't know how she does it. Hope you're resting easy tonight honey. Got back from Bons' party a little while ago. It was so nice...Bev did a Fabulous job. And EVERYBODY that i spoke to asked for you. So many people send their love...you would have been loving it...it was like"old home week"...made me nostalgic for the old NPH days. Lets see who was there...Terry, Linda S, Joyce, Dee, Dolly, Anita R, Suzanne, Jackie, Connie P, Gigi, RJ,Holly, Lee, Bonnie H, Mary Ellen Boos, Jane K, Chris Dunigan, Will,...I'm forgetting some people I know it, and they probably read this blog. Docs...Rich F., Meinie, Bob F.,Gary G, Steve N, all the cardiologists, of course that sweetie John Handerhan, Jim and Carol, Lizzie, Bons' Amy, Matt, Mary and Colleen. All of these people asked for you and wanted you to know you are in their thoughts and prayers. It was so nice for Bob too, to see everyone. Oh and we found out this afternoon that Bill is not a match, so they have placed all of Bobs info into the bone marrow registry, which I guess is a good segue for me to tell Alison, that believe it or not, my husband has the same disease as my dearest friend, AML. Bob first had a bone marrow dyscrasia called myelodysplasia that does as a matter of course turn into leukemia,(which in Bobs case was 2 yrs after the MDS was diagnosed) so we at least had some forewarning, unlike Deb. Like Deb, Bob went through the induction chemo and initially was a "failure to respond". It wasn't until he was home a month that he had the clean bone marrow, AKA remission...delayed remission, again just like Deb. So, now he too is a candidate for a mini-SCT and once again our big, brave Debbie is being the trailblazer...it's kinda like having a tour guide, but HUP ain't no Universal Studios, as you certainly know. But enough about that, as Deb is wont to say. We have learned the hard way that every day is a gift, and try to make the most of it.

So darling girl, praying you have a good night, missing you like crazy. Keep the good thoughts and well-wishes of all your old NPH pals close, and only think good thoughts. Sweet dreams, Mo

Well, sugar, honey, iced, tea. I can't believe Beverly beat me to the punch...and I left the party probably an hour before her. I just can't type for beans. She even stole my "old home week" line. How rude!

Good morning Deb,

I have to take time to write when I can. So hope your night is going better. Try counting sheep.
I am off tomorrow. An aunt on my mothers side of the family has passed and her Mass is tomorrow. I am off for that then to spend the rest of the day with my brother David and Mom. He is 45 tomorrow. We are going to head out for dinner, then they are coming up to my house until the weekend and off to Cape May. I will leave them down and I will head back down again next weekend for a few days of R&R. I can't wait. So needed. One of these days it should get a bit better.
Sleep tight and catch up with you again.

Love hugs and prayers,
jean
