Just a quick catchup

Hello Everyone,

Joe said I need work on my paragraphs and using capitals. Well i told him he should work on taking blood pressures and bedpans! That means i didn't spend my career on a typewriter and actually am very proud of my new found computer skilss however spare they may be.
All is well here. I wish i could say quietbut that is not the case. I have either had a procedure done (cat scan of the chest, pulmonary functions, muga scan of my heart, and visits to dr. porter, my cardiologist and gyn m.d., and yesterday to the dentist) ov vivited a Dr. ,all to make sure i am healthy enough to go thru with the bm transplant. I still feel like i am talking about someone else when i say that. Other then feeling very tired i am ok.Doing lots of reading of the materials Dr.Porter gave me to prepare. Yikes!!!!! I know two weeks after the transplant i will be down at Penn saying "could you please take those stem cells back". "I want my old one's back". So i hope you will all bear with me over these next months as they say in the literature that i could have mood swings. Not ME!!!! I did attend church on Sunday with Eileen dand the Gerharts at St. Mary's Manor. It was a beautiful mass and sermon. The priest spoke about fear and worry and how God is always with us to ease our worry and that there is no need for fear, something my dear friends Edie and Kris have been encouraging me to believe since the beginning of this journey(and many of you have also written in the blog).Anyway it was really a perfect way to start the day and everyday from now on i will pray for strength and the faith to carry that with me. Alright, enough of that as most of you if not all have lived your lived believing that. I am just a slow learner.
The boys are well. Michael went on his first trip today to N.Y. city. (thank God not alone) A grownup (haha) is along to show him the ropes. He was very excited. He aksed Joe if he could borrow a pair of pants. We did shop as a graduation gift for a professional wardrobe, but he would not buy pants. So like he is still in grade school at 8pm "dad can i borrow a pair of pants".. See these boys (all three) need me around a little longer. Joey is well continues with the home improvement compay and seriously working out. He and Michael are playing soccer or baseball several nites a week. He is also my shadow these days and comes with me to shop to make sure i am ok and carry the heavy stuff. All he asks for in return is ice cream! Quite a bargain.
so thats it for now. I see Dr. Porter next wed. for a bmb. and lots more blood tests, so i will let you all know what's new. Thank you all again a million times over (you too visitor from Rhoades 6) for all the cards and blogs and well wishes and thoughts. REALLY they sustain me...I love you all.
Debbie

Debbie-
I am sad to hear about your potential relapse, I was very happy to learn that you would not have to do the stem cell transplant.... BUT you've been so strong so far, I know you can get through this "Mini". Not that I've ever stopped praying for you, but now I'll just pray a lot harder. I know the next few weeks are going to be very busy with appointments before the transplant, but make sure to get your rest and most importantly, enjoy the simple things like the smell of the first morning air, the sunshine, grass between your toes, and visiting with your friends and family. Take care of yourself and know that your whole army of supporters is standing behind you every step of the way.

Hey Debbie:

So glad to check in and have an update. Not much new since we caught up on the phone when you were buying Tastykakes with Mere.

I am on my last night in Omaha. I am on Development overload. Tonight we finally got out of the hotel to eat. It was nice as well as having a chance to walk a bit.

The news is on beside me and it sound like PA is swollen with water. You had mentioned that the creek in your backyard was out of its banks.

I am looking forward to getting home, just to turn around and head to Cincy in a few days. Dave started his week vacation today.

Continue to stay well. Get that rest. You need to be well rested before you head in as well.

Work clothes for Michael but no pants. What did you buy?

Keep your sense of humor. You have been such a trooper Deb.

Love you to pieces. COD Eileen

Hay Deb, Loved the pictures from Jesse. Thanks. You and the kids look great at the beach. Christian sure has it down pat and I am sure that Emma will follow in his footsteps. I know what you mean about the boys needing Moms to get dressed. Colin doesn't see anything wrong with wearing a brown belt and shoes with his black suit and Ryan would wear sandles with his suit unless I stopped him at the door before he leaves. I thought we taught them better than that. Hope you are enjoying this sunny dry day today, as I sure am. Talk to you soon. You are in our prayers. Love Artie and Cathy

Debbie & Joe,
We read your blog with interest & you must be kept busy these days with all of the medical tests, procedures, & activities to be ready for the next phase of your treatment. Like many, we are firm believers in God & pray daily for your full recovery - soon. We spoke with Tom & Janice today & she's coping with her 2nd chemo treatment. At the moment, loss of her hair seems to be the biggest concern. We were very pleased to read that Mike's already been on his 1st business trip. As Joe can attest, that's how they started all of us, nice short trips, before getting a passport & doing some international traveling. It was funny reading about Joe having to share his wardrobe, however that wil probably end soon as the next generation always desires their own styles. Joey has always been a gentleman, & we've always pictured him as being a caring individual. How does Mike squeeze in sports besides his commute & working hours?. We're sure that he sleeps well every night with his schedule. We hope that the balance of your tests proceed well, & that they are successful. You remain in our thoughts & prayers daily. Love, Mom & Dad

Hi Cousin:

Just wanted to let you know that I have been thinking about you all week. Today (Sunday) we shove off for Cincy to visit Dave's family and look at Xavier and UDayton. The children of some of our friends are giving us grief (as Marquette grads) they think Mere had done all the looking she needs. They rass her constantly.

Went to Saturday Mass with Aunt Angie...she looks great as usual.

Will be checking in while we are away in the event you add new comments.

Take care and have a great 4th. Hope you are able to be at the shore for it....Have some of that eggplant rollatini for me.

Love COD Eileen

Hi Deb: I am thinking so much about you. Praying and laughing at the comments on the boys in your blog. Kids always distract us in such a light hearted way. Thank God. Pray everyday for you and Colin keeps asking why. He believes in instant gratification in the prayer department. Love you, Deb. Keep on chugging along.

Debbie,
I don't know what to say. I feel like this must be happening to someone else too - not YOU! But you sound remarkably well and optimistic. The pics of your family at the beach are terrific - everyone looks so happy and tan. Your hair is so funky - I love it!

Since we cannot seem to connect on the phone I'll fill you in on my family.

Megan is living in Phila. somewhere near Rittenhouse Square. We thought that sounded pretty good but she was mugged within the first week she was there. Just bruises, but now she is much more cautious and aware. She doing a rotation in North Phila. with a family practice. She says the area is rough, but she is glad to be getting closer to the end of her "journey".

David is working and seeing his high school friends. It has been a challenging summer, and I know he cannot wait to get back to DC and law school. We feel this same.

Sarah is going to summer school and working. We just went down to move some of her furniture in her apartment in West Virginia and it was stressful. The place was a dump - with a capital D! Richard was so angry that she had signed a lease on this place and Sarah cried when she saw the place. She could not believe that the place was so horrible. And me - I just repeated over and over again that things would be alright. A little paint. A little cleaning. We can make this work. It looked better by the time we left but some of the SAFETY issues remain.

I miss you and hope we can connect over the next couple of days. Stay strong.

BIG HUG
Susan
