Memorial Day At the Shore!

Dear Fod's

When I arrived at HUP on Saturday, Debbie was tapping her fingers and running in place! She could not wait to get out of the hospital and get down to the shore. The boys went down on Friday night after the Phillies game. The boys, George and I had a boys night out before the big weekend. Unfortunately, the Phillies lost in 10 that night.

We had an easy ride down on Saturday afternoon and we arrived there at about 3:00. Debbie was on the beach by 3:02 and was happy to be with her boys for the weekend. Because of the chemo, Deb was mildly compliant about the sun and did try and stay under the umbrella for most of the time on Saturday. Later that afternoon, Mike went to AC to meet some friends and Joey, Deb and I ordered out from Puccini's which is Deb's favorite restaurant in OC. We had a wonderful feast, laid around like beached whales and went to bed early that night.

On Sunday morning, I went for a run and when I returned, breakfast was in full "beach" swing for Mike, Joey and Derek. The AC boys returned in time to eat and we all headed down to the beach again. The boys played horseshoes and Deb was less compliant about the sun, despite the protestations of the "beach Nazi" ( another role!). The boys had cheese steaks and fries on the beach and then left for their ride home to Lansdale.

Deb and I stayed on the beach for another hour or so and then went home for showers and a cookout on the deck. After dinner we started to make some of the beds and Debbie crawled into one of them and fell asleep for about 2 hours. The chemo is starting to kick in and she gets tired spells and simply must sleep for a time and then she is better. We made sure that she took her meds before bedtime and then, of course, she was up most of the night watching TV, reading and wandering the house. She slept late today and felt good in the morning.

We cleaned the house before we went to the beach today and were still down there by 10:30. As hot as it was in Lansdale +90 degrees, it was actually cool on the beach. The ocean is still pretty cold <50 degrees and the wind over the water makes for a very refreshing breeze. We split a cheese steak and fries for lunch and then dragged ourselves off the beach for the long ride home. It was not a good ride, +3 hours, and that was the back way (Debbie says by way of Alabama) but the traffic moved most of the time and we got home at around 5:00 PM.

We had another cookout with the boys and straightened up this house before bed. Debbie was thankful for every second at the shore and she enjoyed herself immensely. Next to the babies, the beach is the best medicine for her. Hopefully soon it will be the babies and the beach and Debbie may just explode!

At home was another pile of cards and well wishes. We thank you all for these and they mean the most to us. Hopefully, Debbie will do well this week and be strong for her stem cell retrieval next week.

Deb sends her love to all.

I'm happy to hear that you had such a great weekend. You sure had great weather! I'm happy to hear that you are home and doing well. Hopefully the rashes are just a distant memory (more like a nightmare)! Try to relax and enjoy the AC. It'll be a hot week!

Debbie:

Glad to hear you actually got to the ocean this time. I bet you had umbrellas all around to keep your sun exposure down. "Not!"

Didn't make it to the movie as Dave got called in. Colin, Bee and I went over to Aunt Angies for a bit tonight.

Keep yourself well rested....Cut out the cleaning for goodness sake. Must be the Crispino gene in you.

Rest up for the stem cell harvest. Take care...Love, COD Eileen

Deb--I'm catching up on your life. Sounds like you had a wonderful time last weekend and this weekend. Makes me smile to think of you hidden under an umbrella--that's not my Italian Deb! But it's nice to know you can behave yourself when scolded. Take care, I'll call.

Debbie & Joe,
We were pleased to read that your weekend down at the shore was great. If you pardon the pun" it was what the doctor ordered"!
We remember Puccini's restaurant at the shore, & I thought the Shiraz was a good match for the great pasta dinner that evening. We thought Joe's comment about your soon having the beach & babies & then explode was a good prediction of the good things to come. We're not sure what "stem cell retrieval" entails, but whatever, we hope that it is "short & sweet".
Jeanne joined us for an enjoyable cook out at Rick's place on Monday; it too was a feast. We thought the pictures of little Emma & Christian & family were most enjoyable. Hope that all is going well for you this week in "good ole Lansdale". Love, Mom & Dad

Debbie: the pictures of the christening are great and you look fantastic. What a smile - you can tell you enjoy those babies and all the time you spend with them. Jess sure does look like you. Glad you enjoyed the shore and all the goodies. I am always checking to see how you are doing - and the happy spirit of your blog made me smile. You are in my thoughts. Shelly

Debbie:

Dave and I are enjoying a much deserved cup of coffee after last night's party. But reality sat in as he realized he was back on-call again.

Tablecloths we on and off again as we dodged rain clouds but the event went off without a hitch. The governor, young as he may be, does a great job of working a crowd and most importantly listening to the issues facing medicine.

The one thing that comes out of it all is that the house is clean...the patios are powerwashed and the grass looks like I cut it with scissors. I can rest for a few days...

RIGHT! Back to running...Bee has a game tonight but I think it may end up raining out as today we are expecting T-storms all day.

Wondering how you are feeling now that some time has passed between treatments.

Dave and the kids all send their love. They really would like to see you. Mere will for sure get over when she is at North Penn for the National STUCO Convention this month.

As for August, Mom and I for sure and the rest will depend on timing. Kids in the Midwest start back in mid August..."they are slower learners...hahaha"

Much love, COD Eileen

Hi Deb,

It was so great to get to talk with you last week.

Happy to hear you made it to the shore. I made it down on Saturday with Mom and David. We spent the day cleaning up the front and side yards. What a mess from the winter. Did errands for Mom on Sunday and was on the road by 4pm with lobsters. Monday was great. Have to figure a way to cook those suckers outside though. The kitchen must of have been 110 degrees.
The Christening pictures were wonderful. Jess thanks for sharing. Deb you looked like you were in your glory. What more could you ask for your husband, children and grandkids all under one roof. What a perfect picture. Take care and good luck with next week. I will keep the prayers going.
I left the house the morning with Bruny cleaning. It is so nice to know that I will come home tonight to a clean house.
love, hugs and prayrers, jean
