Day 43
Deb's evening last night was a little more difficult than I had expected. She continued to run a temperature, but not near 104, and was coughing up a storm. Not sure if we are at the corner yet, or still some where down the block.
She had another chest X-ray this morning -- which must make #6 or #7!
Dr. Porter visited with Deb today and started her on Nupogen (phonetic) which is intended to jump start her white blood count production. Deb's wbc has been down close to 0 for almost two weeks. With no immune system, she is susceptible to everything and is catching everything. The Dr. wanted to get this turned around in the right direction. Hopefully, this drug will get the counts headed up and Deb's immune system can start fighting these bugs!
Kris was able to stop down today and visited with Debbie. When I called, they were having a good visit. I hope she does better than Marian and Eileen -- who both have come down with the mysterious bug.
I will have a more fullsome report tomorrow when I visit with Deb. Thanks for all your help and prayers.
Deb sends her love to all.

Hi Deb and Joe
Another bump in the road.let's hope this is it. i'm thinking of you, and praying .
Lotsa of Love and BIG HUGS
Your Aunt Angie
Dear Deb- Sorry to hear you haven't beat this crud yet. I keep hoping you will be heading to Tennis Way soon or at least up to company. I think of you all the time, we all miss you at MSC. Your picture hangs right at the desk to keep you close.
My mom seems to be improving and is able to be home alone. My Dad went back to work today, I think he thought the company would close without him!!
I went in early for Deb today, what a disaster!! There must have been power failures over the weekend, so nothing would work- the autoclaves, the doors etc. There was water covering the floor at the big autoclave- what a nightmare!! I ended up calling Deb to come in but I got most of it working by the time she got there. another typical day.....
Your new room sounds great but hopefully you won't need it to much longer. Take care, rest up- call any morning at work if your up to it- everyone would love to say hi!!Love you lots and miss you!! Love, Holly

Hey Tek.. your getting close to my age with how many days you've been there!!How are you suppose to fight anything without those wbc's up?We need the strength, it sort of reminds me of Popeye opening a can of whoop ass! When the med starts to bring up the count, don't over exert yourself..give your body a chance to recover! It's winter, not much going on outside, so just relax and get better..
What are the results of all these cxr's? I hope they are still clear,or good as it can be...
Didn't do much for MLK, although Mark had his friend over of the darker persuasion..isn't that what it's all about? Thank goodness for that!
Well, i do hope tomorrow brings a much better outlook.. remember, take it slow, but take it.. love ya, mdf
Dear Deb,
I read about your day each night...
Know that we are all with you... in mind and spirit. My dad also had great results from Neupogen-- Hope it will be fast and effective for you.
Keep the faith... Can't wait to see you.
love, LizzieK
Hi Mom-
Barb and Paul Wiley hosted cards this past weekend and took a few photos they wanted to share with you and the rest of the FODs. I uploaded them to our online photo album. You can view them by clicking

Dear Deb,
We had fun on Saturday night but we really missed Joe and Deb and hopefully you guys will be back to join us for the next pinochle night at Cota's in February.
Deb, we hope your nasty cough goes away along with the fevers real soon and you're able to get some rest during the night tonight.
Love to you both,
Barb and Paul
Good Morning Deb,
Here's to the neupogen doing its thing...and fast!! Who wouldn't feel like crap after days of fever and coughing. Are they checking to see if you've coughed up a lung with all those CXR?
Hope you are enjoying your new digs (despite your location). I didn't even know there were rooms like that in the hospital...sounds like a VIP room?!
Have a better day. Always thinking of you and praying for a break here.
Love, Kim
Hey Kris--any updates?
Glad to hear your temp came down some and hopefully the new meds will start the white count on the way up. Your new room sounds a lot brighter with the big windows, but don't get to compfy, we would rather have you home. Derek is coming home this weekend (his jeep needs inspection)... My mom sends her prayers (still talks about the great care you gave her)... Our love and prayers are with you
Love, Dick
NEU-PO-GEN! NEU-PO-GEN!
WHAT DO YOU WANT?
WBC!
WHEN DO YOU WANT THEM?
NOW!!!!
2-4-6-8 Who do we appreciate?
Chizling! Chizling! Chizling!
Yaaaaay! Chiz!
Good morning Chizzie-
I'm wearing my Four Seasons Philadelphia sweat shirt cheering your blood count on. Sorry, I didn't have any of your fave sport teams (like the Sixers or Eagles or Penn State or Irish) but figured that the Four Seasons would work. I know we love our Four Seasons.
I had a wonderful day with our girl, yesterday FOD's. First, I arrived and got gowned up in the Chiquita Banana Gear. Girlfriend was resting after having a visit from Dr. Porter. She was quite pleased to hear that he was going to be on rounds for the next 2 weeks although she hopes to be long gone and happy at home by the time his stint ends
It was a day of pure unadulterated girl talk interspersed with laps (we think we got a mile in), breathing treatments and unfortunately, the all too frequent coughing jag.
I got to meet MaryEllen, HUP honcho, and got to bow down in front of her to thank her for all her assistance to our dear friend. Also got to meet Chizzie's primary care nurse, Patty. She's a doll and is taking very good, very professional and very sweet care of our friend. It is so good to know she's got these two excellent women looking after her.
Let's hope that neupogen gets cracking and starts pumping out some WBC to fight this bug.
Donna Smith arrived later in the afternoon with a bagful of goodies and her big sweet smile. Note to FOD's, she also arrived carrying a big cup of tea - with teabags. Is that where her nic Donna Teabags comes from? I didn't see any of her Santas...maybe she locked them in the car?
I left our dear friend in the company of sweet Sue Schneider. They were yucking it up pretty good when I left.
I hope and pray you had a good night Chizzie. I know you are tired, tired, tired of all this business and you need a break in the action. You need to get home and get some BIG HUGS.
I love you honey.
K
P.S. FOD's this would have freaked you out - they brought in her dinner tray and when she whipped off the cover - someone had already eaten it!!!!! It was GROSS. We screamed. Thank goodness Donna Teabags brought that potato soup for our friend to chow on!!!
Hey sweet Deb--sorry I haven't been able to visit, although reading Kris's notes, it seems you've been hosting parties with people in banana suits?
I seem to have contracted another nasty cold, right on the heels of the last one. I can't risk bringing anything else down to live with you (or inside you?). So I'll try to be patient and hope that your home about the same time I kick this crud. Funny, I worked for 14 years and had about 2 colds the entire time. I've been retired for 3 months and have had a stomach virus and two colds. It must be my house, I told you it was dirty?
I hope the Nupogen kicks in and makes your wbc go through the ceiling. But most of all, makes you feel better. We all can't wait for the day when you park yourself back on Tennis Way.
Love you, Miss you.
Cathy
Foddies-
Another post just disappeared. Don't know where it went.
Here it is again.
No fever last night and our girl got three hours of sleep! Ya-hoo.
Praise the Lord and keep those rosaries coming, folks!
K
Hey Kris, sounds like you had a great time with deb,and it's good to hear that you too were impressed with her nurses and dr.. but what the heck is this about her dinner already being eaten!!!!Wow, don't even know where to go with that!
Deb, glad you finally got some sleep last night.. little bit here, little bit there! Is the cough finally subsiding a bit?Does that Neupogen work that fast?
Well, keep improving!Hope to hear good news tonight.. mdf
Hi Deb,
Nuprogen worked for my sister-in-law, sure hope it does for you. Praying that fever leaves you asap. Keep those good thoughts for going home, nothing better than the power of positive thinking. Hope you have a good day today, you deserve it more than anyone I know.
Love,
Pam K
Mrs Teklits,
SOMEONE ATE YOUR DINNER? was it joey? haha maybe he was hiding in the hall ... stealing patients food?!?! I really do believe he has a soft spot for the hospital food, no matter how bad he says it is, the plate is always cleaned lol. I am glad to hear you had No fevers last night. Hopefully they will stay away this time!!! Keep positive and stay strong!!! You are the most amazing!!!!!
Love Always,
Alli
Hello Deb and Joe,
I was watching a movie last night, and got a clear message from it as I do in almost all the films I watch. I know you probably do to. The Film was "Miracle" about the USA Olympic Hockey Team. Kurt Russell of Mickey Mouse Club fame, (only those of a certain age will remember that bit of trivia) :) plays the Coach and at one point in a locker room speech says " Great Achievment is born of Great Opportunity" My first thought was you Deb :) Your Doctors are giving you all the opportunity they can muster. I know you will turn that into a truely great achievment. Hang in there, stay strong and we'll see you at home SOON! :) Remember "Patience is a Virtue, posess it if you can, its seldom found in Women and never found in Men" :) Thats what my Grandmother, Mother, and Older Sister always told me. :) We love you! God Bless You! Cathy and Artie
Mrs. Teklits,
You sweet, sweet woman!! Thank you soo much for the beautiful earrings and Christmas present! I am soo sad to hear that you are not feeling well though. I know you'll be strong and fight through this all! I hope you feel better soon, I LOVE YOU SOO MUCH!
All my love,
Christine
Debby and Joe,
We're not discouraged by the latest posting, & we hope that you aren't either. We'll go with Joe's comment hoping that you are better by being "around the corner" rather than "down the block". That's just a bit farther away than we'd like to hope for. We are encouraged by Dr. Porter's personal visit & sincerely hope that the drug Nupogen "will do the trick" sooner than later. Whatever he, or anyone else can prescribe to get you back to Tennis Lane asap is just fine with us. You continue to be in our thoughts & prayers, Love mom & dad.
Hi Debbie,
I've been in Fla. for several weeks as my dad is not doing well and he's been in and out of the hospital since before Thanksgiving.
So I'm just now catching up with things.
I'm so sorry about the chemo news, but sometimes docs can't predict what will happen. You certainly have a great attitude and spirit about everything. I'm in awe of you as well as your family. And what friends! You are truly blessed to have such support surrounding you.
I think about you every day and wish you all the best. Much love, Beverly
