Day 40
We are not sure if this is "dejavu all over again" or not yet, but Deb spiked a major temp. this afternoon +104, got the shakes and that got the floor hopping again.
Deb was not feeling good for most of today. She had a bad night again last night with her cough that kept her up. She has nebulizer treatments, inhalers, etc. to keep ahead of the congestion and to keep this thing out of her lungs, but it is keeping her from resting. When she called me this morning, she said that she did not sleep most of the night last night and she was coughing so much that her ribs were stargin to hurt. She was not happy and had no appetite. She ate very little today, and so we are doubly glad that she tanked up with her buds last night.
Joey and Allie came down from NY and visited with Deb for the early part of the afternoon. They were attired in their banana suits when I arrived with soft pretzels and mustard all around. The kids ate up but Deb took a pass, as she was starting to fade into the fever. After the kids left, Deb spiked the fever and they gave her an interesting series of meds conisiting of tylenol, benadryl and oxy-codo that knocked her out, stopped the cough and brought the temperature down to 100 within 2 hours. The only problem was that as her cough subsided, she began to get itchy all over (allergic reactions again). Although it worked very effectively, Deb is afraid that she will have another allergic reaction like the last time. We are happy that they are watching her so closely and that they are dosing Deb in small measures to avoid a repeat of last time. The nursing care at HUP is excellent.
When Deb was spiking, they also brought 5 or 6 ice packs that were "strategically" placed and Deb took a long nap, packed in the stuff. Any FOD out there knows that this girl is not an ice queen, but she was loving the stuff tonight. At one point, she had three bags around her head! In any event, any or all of the above worked and Deb was feeling pretty good when I left. Let's hope that they can give her this cocktail again tonight and that Deb can get some rest and begin to turn the corner with this thing!
If I have not mentioned it lately, the rash is still there, from ears to ankles, but not any worse nor any better.
As of now, all visitations are off. If we are in dejavu, then the next 3 days will be tough. Hopefully, we are not there and we can count on Deb's continued improvement. Please also note that we will be moving on Sunday morning. We will be moving to 6008 Rhoads -- newly refurbished -- with a fridge and bigger than her current room, on the corner and with a view. Deb may never want to come home! Hopefully, this will be the best of the 5 rooms Deb has been in during her stay. I will post the phone number and proper address tomorrow. They did come to explain the move, etc. at some point during the afternoon.
Deb sends her love to all.

Oh Deb, I hope you can get some rest from all the rashes and coughs and fevers. I hope they are keeping a close eye on you throughout this tough time--you know you have an army of FODs who would gladly spend the night by your bedside. All you need to do is say the word.
My prayers for you tonight will include some peace and sleep, and I sure hope the Big Guy heres me.
Love,
Cathy

BIG HUGS Love to All
Your Aunt Angie
Debbie, you are the strongest person I know. Hang in there a few more days until this thing turns the corner again. Keep fighting and remembering the grandkids, Jessie, Joey, Mike, and your god-send Joe, and of course all your friends. You all are never far from our thoughts these last 40 days, and I don't think I've ever prayed this much in my whole life. Take all the comfort drugs they have to offer along with the ice paks and know that you are loved. Love, Lorraine and Bob
Debbie:
Day 40 I can hardly stand it! I had two days of no access to this site. Our computer guy was here to finish our conversion to a new email. Essentially he downloaded all of our address books to Microsoft Outlook. Our local internet provider we have switched to (so that we can be faster than the pony express) you can send and receive emails through but their site doesn't store addresses so they pop up. A feature I need more and more as my middle-age moments increase.
I think Bee may be experiencing sympathy pain with you. He was home yesterday and is missing a game today. Sore throat with (for lack of a better term) what sounds like a wad a boogies in his throat. No fever though!
Mere is all excited after 6 months at her part-time job in the pharmacy she got a .40 raise. Amazing what makes a 16 year old happy.
Colin is doing great. He is weightlifting for football. Yesterday I took him to take the drivers permit test. Or as I put it on the way into the building....just want to see the questions. And that he did. Next time he will read the manual. Two other classmates where there. The other one didn't pass either. We didn't stay for #3.
As for Dave and I, we are working, working, working mainly on solicitaions for the auction. After last week's trip on the "panic bus" as people are slow to send in their donations, this week has proved to be very fruitful. Nobody likes to heed deadlines is my one observation thus far. I can't wait to see how bad they are about getting the reservations in. Oh well, all in all a great learning experience, mostly for me though. With getting this over now...I will be able to skate through Brendan's time at the high school.
Oh by the way...we have changed our emails to eileenc@yhti.net and decmd99@yhti.net.
Guess I better go back to moving the clutter around.
Love you to pieces. Eileen C.
My God Debs ,what next..I really thought you might squeak by this time ..your courage is inspiring and I'm sure it tends to come and go..but hang in there, the next supply of it is headed your way!..the "dark days" will brighten ..when I read all the wonderful love and support coming your way and all the very special joys that have come to you as a result of this horror,I can see God in there working to give you a new perspective and renewed strength..you are truely blessed my good friend and better times ahead are just a matter of time..God continue to bless you dear one ..prayers and much love :)Bev
Debbie,
Forty days and forty nights...that was enough for Jesus in the desert and it certianly is enough for you in that hospital!! We are praying that you get some relief from the fever and the rash and can get some rest. It's time to get you home where you belong. So stay strong and know that there are so many of us who are thinking of you and praying for you so that we can make that happen.
Love...Karen & Bob
Dear Debbie,
So sorry you are going thru this rough patch again, I pray it will be shorter lived than the last. Stay strong and believe. Hope the new room is nice and the move will not be a hard one.
Know our prayers are doubled.

Fudge Under Charlie's Knuckles!
Couldn't believe when Mr. Marvin told me that Joe called yesterday afternoon about your temp. Dagnabbit, I was so looking forward to giving you a big banana hug!
Been thinking about you ever since, darling. Hope that your fever subsided, your rashes relaxed and all of your meds kicked in.
Tried to call a while ago but missed you. I hope you were either a.)sleeping like a baby with the phone turned off or b.) out doing some laps.
Funny that Karen and Bob mentioned 40 Days and 40 Nights (not the movie either). I've been thinking about that too. We talked about your tenacious spirit yesterday honey and I thought you might like to hear this again.
From Julia Cameron:
"Obstacles test me but they do not deter me, I am able, always to tap an inner resilient strength which serves me. Even when life is a desert, I find my careful way. Like a camel, I carry within myself stamina and the wisdom to use my energy wisely for the long trek. I am a creature of miraculous endurance. My will and my grounded passion form the basis for my tenacious movement through life."
Hang in there Chizling. You know I love you. I hope you know how much. kisses. kisses.

dear deb,
i'm so sorry to hear that the fever is still raging. i think we may have jinxed you by discussing how well you were doing. hopefully the whites will start climbing and this will all be another bad memory. can't waint to see your new room--i have great expectations.
mo i'm sure that you have heard of arpeggio in blue bell. i can only go with my girlfriends as dennis refuses to stand in line for anything. deb, hope the move is not too taxing on anyone--love to all the teklits marian
Hi, Aunt Debbie. I'm sorry to hear about the temp and lingering cold. I can't believe that rash is still around, too. It is very nice to hear that there are some great nurses there to take care of you. Now you can see how special you made many, many people feel in their time of need!
I can't believe it has been 40 days. I hope you are able to get some rest, get better, and get the heck out of there!
Love,
Lisa
Debby and Joe,
We are sorry to read that you are having such a difficult time, but are very pleased to read that the nursing care is excellent, & that they aredoing all they can to make you more comfortable. Let's hope that the fever & cough subside so that you can have a better day. Hopefully the move to the new facility tomorrow will signal a turn for the better that all of us are hoping for. Dad is doing well & is sporting a nifty "shiner" but the swelling is virtually gone. You continue to be in our thoughts and prayers daily, LOve, Mom and Dad
