Day 42

Today was a good day for Deb. When I arrived at 9:20 they were ready to move the floor. Apparently, they had moved "kick-off" up by 30:00 minutes but did not tell anyone! Lucky for us, we were ready to go and we were the first ones off the floor. (You know how Deb loves being first!). So, instead of moving between 10:00 and 12:00, we were in the new room before 10:00, and glad to be there. We took the air bed with us, hooked everything up ourselves and we were "home" again.

Deb has a great room, #6008 Rhoads. It is a the corner room with three big windows looking out over UPenn Dorms. It is a very large room, about 1/3 again as large as we had before, with a beautiful bathroom (marble no less!!) with hard wood floors and built in book shelves. She even has her own thermostat! Her new phone number is 215.615.8147. (Thank you Mer!)

Deb did well today with her fevers. The highest we saw today was 99.5, which is great! But she was wiped out from the past few days, and just not herself --but aftet 42 days -- who would be their self?? Deb has done more than her part, wants to come home, and needs to be here.

FOD's -- Deb has pushed off visitors because of her fevers and her expectation that she will had another problem with her throat. Based upon what I have seen, I do not think that the throat is going to be a problem. The fevers seem to be abating, and that said, some day time visitors, could probably be in order if it is convenient for you. I may be on the fringe, but Deb seemed depressed today, and could use some company, other than me.

I think Deb is turning the corner and I was very encouraged today. We will continue to hope for the best.

Deb sends her love to all.

Deb, Sorry I haven't written for a while. I have however, been following your journey. Glad to hear you have been sent to the penthouse. You deserve it! As for those breathing treatments... (don't let your RRT'S see this). You see, breathing treatments are only effective if they are given by someone who truely loves you. Therefore, from this point on, I am re-incarnating myself for you. Please keep in mind that despite any unusual physical forms or personalitys I may present, the new and improved respiratory treatments are a labor of my love for you. My karma to your karma. Hugs ((((()))) Jax (& Con)

Channeling Dionne Warwick here:

The moment I wake up
Before I put on my make up
I say a little prayer for you....

(I wish we could give these blog postings sound tracks...)

Hoping today is a good day for you my Chizzie. It sounds like there will probably be a traffic jam of all the FOD's coming down to see you in your new room. I truly hope that you are not going to be there too long and that you will be "Homeward Bound" soon. (Don't make me start singing Simon and Garfunkel)

Now, what about skating? Sasha Cohen took Nationals the other night and rightly so. She had a terrific program and looked quite strong for someone that had been in bed with the flu - she also looked thin and wan w/ dark circles under her eyes, though. Probably like you are feeling right about now! Kimmie Meissner (sp?) and Emily Hughes came in 2 and 3. Michelle did make the Olympic team - but her making the team bumped Emily Hughes to the alternate position. (Remember when her sister Sarah bumped Michelle off the team?)

Regarding your new room - it sounds suspiciously like those at the Four Seasons. You didn't bolt did you? Should I be meeting you in the lobby for tea? Banana gear and all?

Joe - you can come too - I'll buy you a martini or three to thank you for keeping us so well informed and keeping such tender watch over our friend.

I love you Chizzie-K

P.S. mdf - I love "What about Bob". Baby steps. Baby steps.

My dearest Deb,
May God grant you the wisdom to accept the things you cannot change and the the ability to identify those you can. I know, believe me, how easy it is to get discouraged. This to shall pass. You have a beautiful new enviornment according to Joe and the Doctors and Nurses seem to have some better control over any set backs you may be experiencing. I thank God for that! Sleep as much as you can, stay strong and things will work out. Don't count the days, just take them one at a time. You know a little old man I roomed with, during my challenge, would get out of bed everyday, throw open the curtains to let in the morning light, and tell me, "any day we wake up and we are not six feet under is a Good Day!" I always chuckled at that. He was right of course. Each new day is an extra Blessing from God. Enjoy your Husband, your visitors, and your caregivers. They will help you through each day. You will be home in no time. We love you and the prayers continue unending. Love Cathy and Artie

YEAH!!!! I'm so happy to hear that the fevers are going away and that you are feeling a little better. I don't blame you for being a little "down." After your 42 day experience at U Penn, I don't think anyone will blame you.

I think you and your fellow nurse friends need to consider joining together. Just think of it...the FOD Medical Clinic. You would have the best care and treatment around...loving, caring nurses, hunky doctors, EXCELLENT food.... and you'd never leave anyone wasting away in the hallways. That's where Uncle Joe, Joey and Mikey come in. The hunky transport service! As soon as you get home, I think you need to start working on this. What do you think ladies?

I hope you get stronger and stronger with every passing day and that your stupid rash takes a hike. Hang in there, Aunt Debbie!

Love,
Lisa

Horray that the fever be gone! Now you can come out of that dang desolate solitary confinement. No wonder you're depressed! Hopefully by now (noontime) you'll have had some calls and visits to cheer you up. You'll soon be out of 'jail' altogether. What a glorious day that will be! Hang tight. It's coming soon.

Joe, you hang in there too. You must be exhausted, but ditto the thanks for keeping everyone posted. This stuff will be great to read and look back on this time next year. It'll feel like ancient history. Blessings, Mussie

Dear Debbie

Looking at the size of your room, you will need to make sure that the children do not come and set up home.

You will not know that there when you leave! Mind you it would be surprsie for the next guy.

We had a great time sking the only place in the world where it did not snow for a long time.

Hannah really enjoyed herself sking I also think the local italian boys may have helped, I remenber that you reminded me of this not so long ago (the challenges of managing a very pretty 15 year old)

Good news that the fever is going down as well.

I also heard that Joe is doing trade in a real mean "shepard's pie"

It amazing where you can gather such senstive information from!!!

Carol Hannah Theo (and Dewy the cat, and rocky rabbit) all send their love as well as all the other guys over here.

Joe is still keeping me on track as well

all my best wishes

Vincent xx

Debby and Joe,
This last posting was very heartening & we couldn't be happier for you. Let's hope that it begins a string of good days so that you can come home soon. The room sounds as accommodating as a hospital room can be described, but we're sure that the view that you'd prefer would be any view from inside your home. Yes, we certainly agree that you've done all that one can do to get well, and hopefully the days at the hospital are now numbered. Keep your spirits high & we continue to pray for you. Love, mom and dad.

Dear Mrs. Teklits,

I've thought about you so often, so I thought it was time to at least let you know that you're on my mind.

My family received a Christmas card from Jessie's family...Christian is adorable! I can't believe how much he looks like a Teklits! Its definitely his smile.

Keeping with my sister's tradition, I also wanted to share a joke with you. When I was abroad, my friend Melanie (well, I actually call her Melons because she has huge boobs, but that is neither here nor there) use to tell me this joke when I was feeling down. Sometimes she'd tell it to me multiple times a day, like when I thought I'd go nuts if I had to eat one more grain of white rice in India or if I was offered one more "vegetarian" meat pastry in Brazil. But the joke never got not funny, or even when the joke was no longer funny, the repetition made it hilarious...so this is the big build up for the joke. Hopefully it doesn't lose something in its written form; or if someone is reading this to you, hopefully they tell it well and often. But, so here it goes...

Stop me if you've heard this before...A guy walks into a bar. He's wearing a three point hat and a ruffled shirt. He's got an eye patch and a hook for a hand. He's limping because one of his legs is a wooden peg. He's even got a parrot squawking on his shoulder, too. And to top it all off, he's got this huge ship steering wheel attached to the front of this pants. The bartender shakes his head and sighs, as if tired of this guy's shinanigans. And he's like, "Ok, man...I get it...the hat, the patch, the hook, the parrot...you're pirate. Nice. But what's up with the steering wheel?" The pirate looks down and replies, "Arrr! It's drivin' me nuts!"

Hehe! No one can resist a good pirate joke! It is madness to try!

Anyway, I'm sending good thoughts your way.

xo, Megan Schneider

Hey Mrs. Teklits!
I hope this new room helps make you feel better. As I have learned, cramped spaces (ahem, dorm rooms) really can put a damper on your spirit and your health. This new room sounds beautiful! I still hope you don't have a long stay there. I can atest to moves being a very good thing. I believe this transfer to WVU was my best decision... EVER! Out on the town last night, I even ran into a few North Penn alums! Anyway, here's a joke even though my sister left a pretty good one.
There's an old priest who got sick of all the people in his parish who kept confessing to adultery. One Sunday, in the pulpit, he said, "If I hear one more person confess to adultery, I'll quit!"

Well, everyone liked him, so they came up with a code word. Someone who had committed adultery would say they had "fallen."

This seemed to satisfy the old priest and things went well, until the priest died at a ripe old age. About a week after the new priest arrived, he visited the mayor of the town and seemed very concerned.

The priest said, "You have to do something about the sidewalks in town. When people come into the confessional, they keep talking about having fallen."

The mayor started to laugh, realizing that no one had told the new priest about the code word.

Before the mayor could explain, the priest shook an accusing finger at the mayor and said, "I don't know what you're laughing about, your wife fell three times this week."
Stay Strong!!!!!!!
Love ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS,
Sarah Schneider
