Special Guest Posting # 3

Merry, Merry Christmas to all my wonderful friends and family. Again, a million "thank yous" for all of the cards, blogs, cookies, presents, incredible socks, hats, delicious food, prayers and good wishes. During my dark time last week, thoughts of you and your support and love got me through that awful time. I am much improved today and actually walked outside through the Penn campus which is quite beautiful. You wouldn't know that you are in the middle of a major city. The fresh air was fantastic. These past two days with Joe, Jess and the boys here was the best medicine of all. It overcame me and I was "seeping" a lot over the past few days.

Jessie looks great as you can see from the pictures and Emma is thriving. Thanks to Jess for getting those pictures on the blog. It is amazing how much the small things mean in life and how important it is to just have us all together. I wish Walid and Christian could have joined us -- maybe on the next visit. There was little girl around Christian's age running up and down the halls visiting her grandmother today.

My numbers are looking good and I am being weaned off the steroids -- "YIKES!" -- I hope all of those bad germs, allergic reactions, etc. do not come flying back. My doctor says that I should be able to fight things off on my own now because my immune system is so much stronger.

Gearing up for round two -- still can't quite believe it -- that we will be going through this all over again. At least I know what to expect this time and so do my caregivers. We have lots of doctors watching out for the allergic reactions -- because that was the problem the last time -- not the chemo. I seem to be allergic to just about everything.

I had a wonderful Christmas today and we exchanged some gifts in the room, we took a walk outside and then had some Christmas chili. Jess passed along her black bean chili recipe that Joe gave a little extra "BAM" and we had a nice crock pot lunch with some home made bread. I have two slices of bread left over in my frige -- with some nice, real butter for a snack later tonight! The doctors have told me to eat whatever I want -- good fatty foods, cheeseburgers, etc. Can you believe it, they want to bulk me up. All my hard work to lose weight and they want me to pound the burgers. Really now!

I want to thank you all again, really from the bottom of my heart. I love you all and can't wait to see everybody again. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday with your families and friends and know that I will be thinking of you tonight when I read the blogs, as I do every night to bring on peaceful dreams.

Love to all !!

Debbie

Debby & Joe,
This is a bit late in the day to wish you a Merry Christmas but we were pleased to hear from Joe this AM as he was driving down to the UofP, & were really surprised at "the chef's" selection of chili for Christmas. That's my selection as the "Food of the day" (with one of Bob's super hot dogs) at either the Purdue, or Mich State games at PSU when the winds & temps can get a bit nasty. We've had a very nice busy day as we've been surrounded by family throughout the day, & yes you were the subject of the conversation of the day. We're delighted to read that you were able to go outside & enjoy the fresh air. That must have been a real treat for you. Rick & family joined us in the morning & they were nice enough to bring Mrs "C" along with them. Sue, Jeanne & family, along with Lisa & Bob joined us for dinner. They were towers of support for us while thinking of you being away from home on Christmas. Let's hope that "round 2" is easier than the 1st, & best of all seeing you at home again.
Love Mom & Dad

You all look so happy and you look great Deb. We were all thinking of all you today and wanted to wish all of you a Merry Christmas! Hang in there for round 2 Deb and if you need me to make you burgers, just let me know!!

Hi Deb- Merry Christmas! Hope you had a good day. The pictures of your family were just beautiful. You look good, much more well rested and your color is much better. Maybe it was the happiness radiating in your face at having your babies all around you. And Jessie looks wonderful.
We had Christmas Eve at my Mom's and dinner today at my brothers. Both were nice, quiet except for Missy of course (she is always entertaining). Tom got me sessions with a personal trainer at the gym for Christmas, I'll really look like Sharon Stone soon, don't you think?
Well Deb, rest up, eat want you like (how long we've waited to hear those words) and go for round 2. Hopefully all they learned during round 1 will make it easier for you. I hope so. We all miss you and hope you get home soon.
Love, holly
P.S. My entire family was viewing the blog and pictures tonight. They all send their best wishes and are praying for you.

Deb,
Checking in before I go to bed and was thrilled to see your smiling face and those of your family. It was even more heartwarming to read your message. What a Merry Christmas!
Mom and Dad stopped by. Joyce sends her love too. She doesn't own a computer, so I've kept her up to date (they only got cable a few years ago...imagine).
It's been a long day. Unfortunately, Dan got the stomach virus that's going around.
Also, remember when your kids were little and you've just fallen off to sleep yourself when you sense something...open your eyes and there is a tiny face about a millimeter from yours...scares the heck out of you???? Danielle was sure she heard Santa move a chair in the kitchen...of course! But, if it wasn't Santa, what was it??
How do we come up with these great answers when it's hard to put a sentence together? Anyway, between that and Dan's nighttime activities, not much sleep going on. So, this is definitely Good Night(I mean I won't be sending a 2nd message like Mo does).
So absolutely thrilled for you and your family that you had such a great weekend.
Sleep tight. Love, Kim

We have been praying for you as we lit our Advent Candle at the dinner table and will continue to until you are well and home with your family again.

Your strength and wonderful message today was just incredible.

Hello friend,

What a wonderful surprise to come home tonight and read your note. You sound wonderful and you looked absolutely radiant in your pictures. Jess thanks so much for them. I know you must have been exhausted after your trip. I shared the pitures with Mom. Again she sends her love and prayers. She and I are both so impressed by your determination and strenght. As I sat with my family around the Christmas table tonight our Christmas prayers were all for you Miss Deb for a a gang buster round two, speedy recovery, and a Christmas hello to your and your family from the Rumsey family.
Julie Jourdan also sends her Christmas wishes.

Joe, again thanks for the postings.

Debbie,
I'm glad to hear your past few days have been good and that you were able to spend some joyous moments with Jessie. I thank the Lord your Christmas turned out well with Joe and the boys. I bet you had the whole hospital staff involved with your own well wishes.
By the way, has anyone told you that you closely resemble Sinead O'Conner? Maybe you could start a whole new career!
I'm remembering 3 years ago when I was so sick and how much you helped Jimmy and I. I wish I could do the same for you. Jimmy and I pray daily that God will give you all the strength and courage you need to see you through this terrible illness. Just keep reading all these messages and you'll know how much you're loved and needed.
May God in His tender mercy embrace you with His healing touch.
"As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you."---Isaiah 66:13
Love, RJ and Jimmy

Hello and Merry Christmas! I'm so happy to hear that you were able to enjoy your Christmas with family. Jessie and Emma look great and their visit must have been such a great treat! Your chili dinner sounded great...I have to get that recipe from Jessie and try it myself!

You definitely were the topic of conversation at Christmas dinner! Now that you have the green light to eat whatever you want, we are planning what to make! How big is that fridge in your room?

I'm so happy to hear that you are getting better. I'm sure that round 2 will be much easier now that they've worked out all of these allergies. We all are awaiting the day that you get released and can go back home!

Love,

Lisa

I agree with everyone...That GI Jane look is fabulous! The focus is on that wonderful smiling face that I know I always enjoy seeing! Everybody is asking how you are doing at work and lots of well wishes are extended from all your "Ol pals" at CMMC. I know that the Christmas love that you enjoyed with your family filled up your heart and soul and will give you strength to continue your battle for round two. Thank you for sharing these tender moments with us. It was the best Christmas gift ever received! Cheers! Love Jill

Dear Chizmas-

Pictures and a special guest posting! Santa has been extra special good to the FOD's this year!

So glad to read your post. You are so sweet and it looks like must have been writing in your journal because it sure doesn't sound like charting!

Yay! You walked outside and got some fresh air. That had to be fantastic. I've been thinking that would be a good thing for you to do. Doesn't it seem miraculous that you would be out and about walking after the week you just had! I believe baby. I believe.

So sorry to hear that your seepmeter has been going off. There must be something in the air because I was seeping last week like nobody's business!

Keeping the fingers crossed that your numbers hold and the steroid weaning will be smooth, smooth, smooth. Hey, you haven't had 'roid rage yet have you? (Just checking.) Is Joey giving you a hard time about being on steroids? (That would be a good time to develop 'roid rage. ha-ha. Just kidding Joey.)

I can't wait to get back to PA so I can assist your doctor in getting you back to fighting weight.

You bust out of that place and we'll take the Four Seasons afternoon tea by storm. We'll have those waiters hop-singing around there. Yes siree. They'll be wheeling out those tea sandwiches on a refrigerator truck! Bringing on the scones and the clotted cream in a Mini Cooper and we'll have those pastries coming out on a volkswagen!

I love the thought of you sitting down to eat and saying:

"Bring it on! Weight Watchers? Hoo! We don't need no stinking Weight Watchers!"

Hope you are having a good day today and that your numbers are excellent! December's almost over!

Love you - K

Hey Debbie:

So good to hear from you personally. I can hear your voice as I read along.

Today we are again making an attempt at our tradtional Christmas dinner here in Wash, MO....Harriet and Arnie (our hosts)had two kids with this intestinal bug that is flying thru Missouri, so we postponed our feast until one o'clock today. Luckily all the particpants were not due back at work today. Last night, we ended up at another friends and we just brought all our desserts we had prepared to that feast. Now we are feverishly preparing more for today. I am so over this eating thing I will be glad to see the holidays come to an end.

Santa was good to us and sounds like you too. I am so glad and thankful that your whole family could be with you. And the fresh air...WOW!....

I am still working on my brother Mickey but sending prayers through our Nonnie is as close to praying as one can get as we all know what a saint she was/is....I am sure she is watching over you...

Better run and tend the oven's, dyers and make it to the shower before 1...Miss you and I am thrilled that you are "on the other side" of that whole mess you got into last week. Next treatment may be easier on you now that they know how high allergic you are...I keep praying....Love, Cousin Eileen

Hey Mrs. Teklits!
I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while, but I think about you all the time! And of course, Merry Christmas!! I am so happy your family could surround you with their love and all be by your side. You're quite a clan! My mom just got back from visiting you and now she so bright and chipper! We all miss you like crazy!
A man goes to his doctor and says "Look doctor, I've been doing a lot of thinking and I want to be castrated." The doctor looks suprised and says "Are you sure? This is a big decision and not one I recommend." The man is defiant. "I've been doing a lot of thinking and I've wanted this for years. This is a personal choice of mine and I want to be castrated." The doctor agrees to do the surgery. The doctor performs the surgery and wheels the man into the recovery room he will share with another man. As the castrated man wakes up he turns to his roommate and asks "Hey. What are you in for?" The man responds "Oh man, I just got circumsized." The castrated man's eyes widen..."Dammit! That's the word I meant!!"
Stay strong!!!
Love, Sarah Schneider

Deb--I've enjoyed catching up on your holiday via this wonderful blog. Jessie and Joe have been doing such a great job of keeping the rest of us up to date on your progress, helping to soothe our angst just a bit. And a special entry from Joey? How special is that for me to read!

I'm glad you had Jess an all the boys to celebrate the holidays with you and get you pumped up for the next chapter of this incredible saga. I loved the pictures of all of you, thanks to Jess for another great job. Her talent seems to have no limits.

You know you're in my thoughts and prayers and I love you.

Deb,

What a treat to see the pictures of you and your family - all those smiles!!! After last week this was truly a wonderful Christmas present! Well, I have great news too - Margo is engaged! Her Jesse called Paul and I on Friday night and asked if he could come over, he wanted to show us something. He came over and showed us a beautiful diamond ring which he planned on giving to her on Christmas Eve. We were so excited! We ended up celebrating with Jesse (drinking too many Jack (Daniel's) and cokes!). Jesse couldn't wait and at 8:00 AM Christmas Eve morning woke Margo up and asked her to marry him! It's been a whirlwind and we couldn't be happier! So the Wiley's are having a wedding!!!

We are so happy that you are doing so much better - keep up the good work! Love to you, Joe and the rest of the family,

Paul and Barbara

Debby & Joe,
We spent the afternoon at Rick's place and thoroughly enjoyed seeing all of Stephi's & Shane's Christmas "goodies". Stephi's lap top was in the process of being installed & should be an excellent compliment to her academic achievements. We enjoyed seeing Shane play with so many of his new games, books, airplanes, among others. He played various games seemlesly for hours, & never lost any enthusiasm when transitioning from one game to another. Tomorrow we're looking forward to Bob's & Rick's families & Sue joing us for dinner. We hope that when we read the next posting, it will include today in the "good day" column. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the pictures in the special posting & we thought that you looked great. Joey, we enjoyed reading your blog, & are looking forward to seeing more postings from you. Love mom & dad
