Day 19

Deb continued to improve today and has moved back to her "home" on Ravdin 9. Her room number is 933 and we were able to tidy it up for her througout the course of the day.

Deb spend the night in the intermediate ICU unit. She called around 7:30 AM and was hoping to move to her room shortly. The process took until around 5:00 PM when she was finally moved into her new private room, with a bath tub, more drawer space and with an exercise bike! We will complete the rest of the move in process tomorrow and will spend Christmas there with Deb.

Jester came up on the train today -- 1.45 hours late of course, but saw her mom for the first time. Jess and Emma weathered the trip and after the long visit, they will be sleeping soundly shortly. I met her at the station and we took a cab back to the hospital. Jess had a nice visit with Deb while we waited to be moved back to Ravdin.

The boys were able to join us late in the afternoon, so that Deb had all of "her babies" with her for the afternoon and I had two good "mules" to help me move all of the stuff from "here to there" throughout the afternoon. Actuallly, the nurses on Ravdin 9 now know us so well that they let us set up Deb's bedding and room even before the orders were cut to move her into 933. We have gotten to the point that we can install the air mattess, with the right settings, fix the base sheet, add one folded blanket, then add another fitted sheet, then the top sleeping sheet, plus the hospital blanket, then add the Donna Teabags quilt. This is the protocol that Deb likes best, and we have gotten this down to a science. Plus this room has its own refrigerator!

The boys and Deb had dinner together, while Jess and I held out for a proper dinner from our household stores. Jess and I left around 6:30 and the boys were about 1 hour behind us. Deb is glad to be back on Ravdin 9 and her room is looking like home again.

This was a good day for Deb and all of her babies -- she was happy to be with everyone and to watch Mr. C on the DVD and to feel Emma kicking up on poor Jester.

Jess will go home tomorrow on a 2:30 train.

Thanks to all for your kindness, cookies and food. I am beginning to think that the boys are now gaining weight!

Deb sends her love to all.

Hello friend,

It is so wonderful to hear that you are out of ICU and in what seems like a wonderful room. Good days are always a great thing. I woke up this morning to the phone ringing and it was Bruny, my cleaning lady. She told me that she knew that you were in the hospital and wanted to know how you were doing. I am going to have to call her tomorrow to fill her in on your progress. She sends her love and prayers. I think of you every day and send prayers to heaven each time I think of you.
I was so happy to hear that all of your children were with you today. My dad always said that having his kids around him could cure anything.
Christmas Eve will be at my Mom's, then she and my brother will be at my house for the rest of the week. Christmas morning is at my place and dinner is at my brother and sister-in-law's. My Christmas wish for you is your health. Take care and talk to you soon. Keep fighting.
Love, jean

Hi Debbie!
Just wanted to let you know that you are in our prayers and thoughts everyday!
I am so glad you got to have Jessie visit and have all your family with you! That is so nice this time of year.
We are in PA visiting with Mom and Dad, and adjusting to the snow! It was 60 in SC, when we left!

Baking cookies and strudel for Dad today and have two batches to finish in the morning! Why do all the good cookies take so long to make?

Love ya!

Jess, I hope you and Emma have a safe, quick trip home.

Have a merry Christmas everyone!

Hey Deb:

What a relief that you are having a couple of better days in a row. Getting back into a private room and getting to see Jessie. Nothing like having all your ducklings there with you.

I am working on a batch of meatballs and sauce for our post Christmas Eve mass dinner.

I tracked the cookie packages I sent out on Wedesday and 3 have been delivered. Supposedly Mickey has his but yours says it won't be there until the 27th. What is up with that. Anyway...the package has some other little ditties in it for you to pass the time.

Mass at 6:30p.m. today and home to keep the snoopers out of the gifts and eat pasta. Mom will be over and go to church with us.

We will continue to keep you in our prayers. Love to all, Cuz Eileen

Deb:

Mo had kept us updated on you and provided this site for all the information.

So glad to hear that you are doing so much better the last few days and back in a "regular" room. It sounds like your family takes good care of you with all the extras!

What a great gift you have with your family all together...I am sure this was such a very special visit.

Will continue to keep you in my prayers for comfort, peace and restored health.

Keep up the great progress and keep fighting!

Alleluia!

Chizzie - finally able to get online. Have been keeping track of your progress via Joe, Joey and Cathy G until I could get some access.

Soooooo glad you are back in Ravdin - with upgraded accommodations no less! Next stop The Four Seasons!

Kind of wishing we were at the Four Seasons now. We're staying at a place in Santa Fe called Las Palomas (the dove in Spanish - more bird stuff here.)

You would love it here - it's an old adobe with a wood burning fireplace, hardwood floors, lots of nooks and crannies and a big comfy bed. It even has a kitchen!

Too bad "the dove" apparently has problems with it's "nether regions" and has old adobe style plumbing as well. Right now our Christmas joy is being shared with three maintenance men scurrying around with plungers, snakes and power tools trying to get it right. Hah. Merry Christmas to us!

We're driving down to the property today to give it a look see and tonight we are going to do the Canyon Walk. It's a walk down Canyon Road which is where all the galleries are and it is supposed to be very pretty. Farolitos (aka luminarias in AZ) will line the road, carolers will be singing and cocoa and blackberry brandy are served. (I can't feel my legs!) Our architect lives on the route and he has invited us to an open house, so we'll probably stop there for some refreshments. I'll be thinking of you, honey.

It is so good to hear that you all got a chance to be together. I loved the mental picture I got of the boys fixing up your bed! I bet that was too darned cute.

Also glad to hear that the boys are maintaining their holiday weight with all the goodies coming in - Joe you never mention yourself chowing down. I hope you are taking good care of yourself too, buddy.

Sending you love and kisses. More later - K

Deb, the house is vacummed, food bought, dogs walked, presents wrapped.. crazy what we all do for one day!Tim just took lunch to his staff, patrick just woke up(12:15). now is the waiting time.
Its sort of warm here and overcast..in the upper 60's so i washed the floors and aired out the house to try to cool it down for a fire tonight.
We usually order pizza on christmas eve and watch It's A Wonderful Life... and with tradition.. Patrick usually gets sent to his room 20 min into the show for saying wise cracks..tomorrow is the big dinner day..
I am now on vacation till the 9th.. yeah..so i will be spending ,im sure, alot of time on this wonderful blog site.. thought since i was doing this i would try a chat line last night.. quickly found out it's not the same, unless your into finding out about other peoples body parts..
Well, i hope today is a great day for you.. one at a time till you get strong enough to get home and have your "special" day.. lots of love and well wishes..mdf

Debby & Joe,
We were so pleased to read about your having another good day at the hospital, & it would suit us to a "T" if the rest of the days were all like this & it was the time to come home again. Having Jessie, Emma & the family together again must have been a joy in spite of the surroundings. Hopefully you'll get adjusted to your new room & that there is just one pf your nice Santa Claus statues "perched" somewhere in R 933.
Little Alex & his folks visited us earlier today, & tomorrow we'll enjoy Christmas dinner with Sue, Jeanne, Lisa & Bob at our place. Tuesday we'll enjoy having Bob, Rivk & familes for dinner & chatting hopefully about PSU's win over the Seminoles. We'e sure that wherever Mike will be on the 3rd, he'll be watching the "Lions" with interest as well. It was always a pleasure seeing the boys with their families & Mike at the tailgating preceding the games in Happy Valley. Here's wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas, & rest assured that our thoughts & prayers will be with you tomorrow in Ravdin 933,
Mom and Dad
