Day 20

The family had a nice visit with Debbie today and we hope that Jester can get some pictures published to share with everyone. Jess and I arrived at about 10:30 and she was able to stay with Deb until 1:30 when we left to catch a cab for her train. It was a nice visit for all of us.

Jester gave Deb a peticure and rubbed her feet with lotions and potions and you may see a picture or two of this endeavor. It took way longer than any of my foot rubbing techniques. The boys arrived about 1 hour after we did and we had a nice visit with lots of laughing -- so much so that we thought Jester was going to choke on her sandwich! The boys found a McDonalds nearby and Deb had some Eileen Cota soup and french fries. We had a little home away from home today, all together and having fun. It was nice.

The boys left after we ran out of food to do their Christmas shopping. Not sure what they got accomplished because Joey was sleeping in his room when I got home and Michael was playing video games at Derek's house.

Jester and I caught a cab to 30th street and her train was on time! She was home by 4:30 and I am sure that she was tired from her ordeal, but we were glad to have her come up. Deb was over-joyed with the visit and was very sad to see Jess go home, and so was I. It was nice to have a disciplined, organized person around for a few days. The boys are great company but they fly by the seat of their pants! Organization and planning is very helpful in this kind of situation and her logistical help was very welcome.

When I came back from the train station, Deb was with her nurse Patty and she was ready for a nap. Deb slept soundly for about 1 hour while I caught up on some paperwork. We changed Deb into her sleeping gear and were on the road by 5:00 to begin preparing her Christmas feast. The boys and I will be taking down many of the accumulated presents, an entree, and some treats for Debbie's first Christmas away from our home.

Thanks again to everyone who has helped us along our way so far with prayers, food, cookies, and all of the other support you have given to us. Deb loves the blog and reads it every night. Best wishes to everyone for a very Merry Christmas and we hope that everyone's Christmas wish is for a better time for Debbie. She surely deserves one.

Deb sends her love to all.

Merry Christmas Debbie! Thought of you at mass tonight when the soloist was singing "Breath of Heaven". She sings it every year, but it had special meaning this year with the breath of heaven you surely received to keep your airway open! I got kicked out of my room...Dan is still wrapping!! Waiting until I'm sure all the little devils are asleep before I bring everything out. I still have at least 1 and a half believers out of 4, and know I'll be up before the sun.
My biggest xmas wish is for your recovery...you put it perfectly Rick. Now, sweet dreams Deb so Santa will come!! All the best to your family and the host of FOD's out there for a very Merry Christmas!! Love, Kim

Dear Deb,

I want you to know that I think about you most all the time and are with you in spirit. I know that this is the last place you ever dreamed you'd be during the Holidays, but keep hoping that soon all these tough times will be a distant memory. Keep that thought in mind, keep thinking about the family that loves you and is waiting for you to be home.
On a simpler note, my grandson (John) put his cookies, carrots (for the reindeer)and strawberry milk out for Santa tonight. Yes, Santa really likes strawberry milk- not just plain milk (according to John). He was barely able to go to sleep. But once in bed we made sure there were crumbs on the plate and sipped all but a small amount of the milk so he will think that Santa and the reindeer were here. Oh what we do to carry on a fantasy for these precious little ones!!. Tomorrow we will also tell him about the real meaning of Christmas. I'm sure their will be alot of questions about a baby being born in a stable with the animals since he is very smart and will be quick to analize (like his uncle Andy) the whole barn scene. I'll fill you in on the details when we blog again.
Remember, all we want for Christmas is for you to be better! I know it will happen soon!!

Merry Christmas Debbie,
John, Angela, and I along with Johnny and Erika just got home a little while ago from our Christmas Eve dinner at my parents. We couldn't go to sleep before we checked on your progress for the day. You look so pretty in the pictures...it was so nice to see you with all of your family...and a very good looking family!

You are one of the most precious Christmas gifts to all of your family and friends. There is no church service that could spread the message of faith and hope the way you can through the example of the way you bravely are facing this challenge in your life. You are truly an inspiration to all of us and we know that through the many prayers and the closeness of your loving family, you will be blessed in 2006.

We, along with many, continue to think of you and pray for you and your family each and every day. Ruthann and John and Family
