Saturday Afternoon at GVH

Dear Fods,

Hey everybody. Well here we are at GVH, the local hospital in Perkasie. I have a nasty case of the shingles and am receiving IV anti-virals three times a day. I am in isolation again! Nobody to talk to and these nurses don't know me so I am a little lonely, but very thankful not to be down at HUP, although I do wonder what Dr. Porter would be doing with my case right now? The doctors did speak before I was admitted and did agree on this treatment plan. Apparently, I was sicker than I realized -- as all my labs were abnormal -- indicating that the infection was fairly widespread and growing. I still had a new breakout this morning, but some of the older shingles seem to be drying out now, which is a relief. The doctors attribute this to my still weakened immune system.

Everybody here is very nice and I am even eating the food which is very good. I may even gain a little weight on this stay. They called me a short time ago to ask me what I wanted for dinner and breakfast tomorrow! Can you believe that? And they even bring me what I ordered! What an improvement.

I am hoping to get out on Monday or Tuesday, maybe Wednesday -- but that is getting dangerously close to our trip to Florida, which we all really need. We shall see.

I hope that you are all well and staying warm. We are supposed to get 3 inches of rain tomorrow and maybe snow on Monday -- which would be a record for April 16.

Cod Eileen-- are you getting hit with snow? Congrats. to Meredith on being elected to prom Court -- she is such a wonderful girl.

Thanks for all the cards and blogs and prayers.

Love,

Debbie

Ill try to break the boredom for a minute.. anti viral, not antibiotics.. i said that earlier...sorry.. well, that just goes to show you how well you were feeling before all of this, .. that you didn't even know it was as bad as it was.... hope it goes away really fast...
it's raining here in california today, but is suppose to be sunny and it the upper 70's tomorrow.., we have 7 more weeks of school.. excited , yet it's a little bittersweet cause that means Patrick,, my first baby, will be graduating!!!!
Did i tell you my father in law is here for his monthly visit? He is an easy guest.. 48 more meals... the good thing is, he will eat anything i make which is a nice change..i always feel like i should take the day off from work when he goes back and walk around the house "a la natural".. but don't really know why i feel this way, since i never walk around the house that way before he is here.. im lucky he is such an easy to please guest...
Patrick's senior prom is on may 5th.. it's in san francisco... he thinks he's taking this one girl..he asked her and she said yes,,but he's not sure if it's a date or just as friends.. told him to find out soon so he can get her prom ticket and corsage.. they are getting to sf on the party bus.. i think i already told you, it's a stretch humvee.. at one point he wanted to dress like the guys on dumb and dumber, but im hoping he is past that stage now
Mark has hitting practice tomorrow, then we are all back to school on monday... hope this broke up your boredom a little.. here goes personal stuff.. did i tell you that the dr. put me on the pill for my fibroids,,, they come in different colors now, and all i have to do is warn my co workers..hey.. im on the light blue ones this week.. and they know not to bug me.. kind of nice.. so far they have seemed to work...
starting to look at new carpet to replace our dog chewed off white one.. i actually liked one that is called starburst.. anyone can try to talk me out of it.. its sort of a gold/brown, with occassional specks of red and blue.. kind of colorful.. but not overdone. figured it would cover all the different dirt possibliities..
well deb.. rest up for florida.. i'll continue my prayers for a speedy recovery,, and believe me,, it won't take those nurses long to get to not only know you, but start to hang out in your room... take care.. love,,,mdf

Hi Debbie:

With the prospects of a Norester you might be better off in the Hospital. No snow for us but if we have any more rain I think I might drown. Today looks like we may have sunshine for the first time since....Easter.

I was sorry to hear that you had to be admitted but thankful that they could convince you to get some IV treatment. I can't imagine how painful those shingles has to be. Some anti-viral meds and some FL sunshine will be what the doctor ordered.

Dave has been away at the state medical convention since Thursday. The kids and I have just been putzing? around. The weather has certain slowed them down as well. The next track meet is Tuesday. I hope the forcast is true and it will not be raining and in the 60's. I really can't sit through another cold rainy meet.

The boys and I stopped over at Aunt Angies last night. She's doing fine. She and Colin will be attending Matthews graduation in May from University of Texas. I will be recovering from the overnight Project Graduation for Mere's class. The following week Bee will graduate from Grade School. Can you believe it?

He is working on a 3 ft. tri-fold for his confirmation. One section on the sacraments. One his autobiography, and the other...a letter to a person he admires most.

Also a timeline with some photos of his growth. We of course will include him skim boarding in OCNJ.

This week Dave has another one of his meetings. I wasn't going to go but since this month we celebrate 20 years of wedded bliss I made the decision to go along. So Thursday we leave for Grand Cayman for the weekend. Can't wait for the warmth and sunshine after this hideous spring we have had.

Keep enjoying the food. Brendan still talks about the Philly Cheese Steak we had at your house.
They probably don't serve those there.

Miss you bunches! COD Eileen

Hi Debbie: I heard yesterday that you were back in the hospital when I was working at the kitchen at Corpus for the Bingo Brunch today. I hope this doesn't stop your trip to florida and you are on the mend quickly. Good sign the appetite is better. You are in my thoughts a lot, and was shocked to hear of your setback. Get well. Love Shelly

HI Deb,
OK..lets try this post again here...not sure what has happened..I think Osama Bin Laden just got a couple more from me.
I hope that yo are at home and resting comfortably and that the shingles have dried up and gone away.
On the positive side Deb, the weather has been miserable. I am training pretty hard for my 500 mile bicycle ride from Virginia to NJ. In fact, we had our first training ride as a group this past Saturday. It was 41 degrees. spent most of that ride wondering if it was April or January?? And yesterday and today's storm was basically the Perfect Storm, Pt. II. Just down ride terrible. I read that NY City Central park gor something like 7.8 inches of rain. Normal rainfall for the month is 1.5 inches. We got a few years' worht of April showers all done in a day! My roof at home was leaking and the patio was ominously close to flooding. Nothing like coaxing your friendly Basset Hound outside to do her duty....poor Snickers (a.k.a. the wolf) has to tromp through the mud. She generally takes one look at the weather , says "check please!" and tries to head back inside.
I hope that you are doing better Deb!!

love,
Rick

Hi Deb,

Thinking of you. I was actually going to try and visit on Sunday,I had a baby shower to go to in Frenchtown, had to cross the Frenchtown Bridge. Water to close for comfort at noon time on Sunday, was even closer at 4pm when we came home. I was exhausted and did not want to leave the comfort of my home once I got there. A bit anxious driving on the way back. Roads between Telford and River Rd are all back roads. The Shower was for a friend of mine from when I first moved into the Condo many years back. She is adopting a little girl from China. They are hoping to go get her in May. She is absolutely adorable. The theme was red eggs and ginger, eggs for new life and ginger for the mothers health. The whole shower including food went with this theme. We had a great time.
Well enough rambling. Hope you get home soon. Keeping you in my prayers for a speedy recovery and a great family vacation.

Love, hugs, and prayers,
jean

Jess,

I can't believe how big Christian and Emma are getting! Christian is gorgeous and Emma is absolutely adorable! Those pigtails are the best! I hope all is going well with you and Walid and hope to see you soon. I still have to meet Emma in person!

Love,

Lisa

Aunt Debbie,

I'm sorry to hear that you are back in the hospital. You really haven't caught a break in any of this whole ordeal! At least I'm happy to hear that the food is better and at least now the family is closer by and can visit easier. I'm sure you'll make friends with the nurses quickly and they'll soon learn to love you! Hang in there!

Love,

Lisa

P.S. I'm not sure if you'll check this blog since it's from the other day. I'll post it in the most recent blog as well.
