Manic Monday

Well FODs - I was hesitant to post until we were out the door but I'm afraid by that time it will be too late in the day. WE ARE BRINGING MOM HOME TONIGHT! First we have to get her tanked up with blood and platelets (two units of each), and meet with every department that exists at HUP for discharge instructions. I've been sitting here typing notes with each new visitor because it is A LOT to keep straight. Dad is here and is picking up all of mom's prescriptions (we estimated 15 in all) so we can meet with the pharmacist and go over dosing instructions for each one. They just delivered a tank of oxygen for us to bring home with us. Mom is trying to rest in between interruptions, but today has been a constant stream of visitors, along with the doctors - other well wishers (nurses, CNAs, fellows, etc) who have heard the wonderful news.

Mom will be returning to HUP on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for blood counts and transfusions as needed. Home care nurses I believe will be coming out on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It will be busy but mom will be HOME. I will be up for the remainder of the week to help with the transition home and transport Mom back and forth to HUP.

We will keep you posted on our progress at home - we can't thank you all enough for your love, support, blogs, cards, calls, and everything else that you do to make us feel so cared for and special.

We love you!

Debbie,

It is a wonderful day to know that you will be HOME SWEET HOME! Wyatt prayed for you today at forty hours at school. His teacher told me that he prayed on his knees for thirty minutes....I told her he has someone very special to pray for...her name is Debbie! Wyatt just came running down the stairs (after reading you blog) saying Debbie is coming home today!!! He is so very happy for you! Chuck, Wyatt, Mom and Dad all want you to know that we are so very thrilled to know that you are going home. God Bless you Debbie!

Love,
Donna from Ocean City

Debbie & Joe,
What a great blog to read - we've been waiting hard for this day to come, & we could'nt be happier for all of you. It seems that when the HUP makes up its mind, it can move, & we're both pleased that the big day finally arrived. We're equally pleased that Jessie is able to stay with you in the initial confusing week of transtion. Its a combination of being a huge blessing along with a major shift in responsibility onto the families shoulders. However, we're sure that the family is up to whatever is required in the next few days. We're sure that Debbie must be "tickled pink" to be in her own home again regardless of the necessary care that may be required. Besides, "the nurse" will shortly take charge & dictate what is necessary to be done. We'll be anxious to hear how the 1st day at home progressed. We'll keep you in our thoughts & prayers, Love, Mom & Dad

Dear Debbie,
Welcome Home, Welcome, come on in and close the door,
You've been gone, too long, welcome, your home once more!

That was a song that was no. 1 in Ireland when I was about 7 years old. Myself & my next door neighbor (first boyfriend Colm) would build a stage and a fake piano out of milk crates and wood in the back garden(we had a neighbor who was a milk man and my Dad was a carpenter!). The couple that sang the song was Peter & Lee. Peter the piano player was blind so Colm would wear sunglasses while playing the fake piano.. while I pretended to be Lee the female, holding my fake microphone and singing to Peter "Welcome home, welcome"... come on in and close the door". Occassionally we would see twitching curtains - we found out years later that the whole neighborhood watched Colm & Alison's performance!! lol. Colm went on to be a Christian brother.. I think his first love was too tough an act to follow!!! lol.

Yesterday I was singing a lot.. and I know it is because I'm so happy you are home.

Lots of love, Visitor Alison.

Hi Deb and Family,

I just wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you and hoping all went well with your return home. It sounds like you are going to be busy with your trips back and forth to the hospital. It sounds exhausting but well worth it to be in the comfort of your own home. You are quite a fighter and it will pay off for you.
Take care,
Betty

Today's Daily Word seemed to fit the bill (again)

Renew

The transforming power of God is renewing me.

I look at the new experiences life presents as opportunities to let God guide me to new discoveries. As I acknowledge the spirit of God in each and every situation, I also acknowledge the possibilities of good for myself and others.

I release old attachments to former habits or ways of doing things, knowing there are new and better choices for me. Just as trees flourish in autumn when leaves fall from their branches, I thrive when I am open to transformation.

With eagerness, I look forward to the renewal that change brings to me.

But those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.—Isaiah 40:31
