Weekend Update
Dear Fods,
Nothing much to report for the weekend. The wbc seems to be stuck @ 0.4 which is not encouraging. The ANC is up to 280 -- but the wbc is the concern now. They are reducing the TPN to only 12 hours at a time in order to help induce Debbie to eat on her own. We have the refrigerator stocked with jello and puddings, but Debbie does not have an appetite yet. You know we have been here long when we had to clear out the refrigerator of outdated stuff yesterday. They started Debbie on marinol today, which is the RX form of marijuana. This is also intended to stimulate her appetite and to control the nausea.
Debbie had a rough night and morning with, on top of everything else, she had girl troubles. They have increased the platelets in order to control this problem. Luckily, Jester came up at the nick of time and was able to help Debbie with her daily bird bath. She brought Debbie new PJ's and underwear so she looks nice in her bed today. New stuff is always nice. Jester also gave Debbie a pedicure so her feet look good as well. Hopefully, the rest of her will catch up soon.
Jessie will stay until around 4:00 today. She is delaying her departure to avoid the Orioles home game traffic.
If we did not tell you, Mike tore his ACL and his MCL and has started PT. Apparently, he needs to do PT before he can even have an operation if he decides to go the surgery route. He will go back to the doctors in two weeks to see how the PT is helping.
Debbie would like to see each and everyone of you, however, visiting is just too hard for her right now. She is very, very tired and drifts in and out of sleep throughout the day. Because of this, we ask that you PLEASE don't show up unexpectedly. Jester is in charge of all visitation privileges and you should contact her for any updates.
Thanks for all of the cards and blogs. We read them to Debbie when we can and that helps to keep her spirits up.
Debbie sends her love to all.

Oh boy Chizzie - bogart that marinol, honey. Maybe that will help you get a munch on. And make those darn girl troubles not so dreadful. NOT that I would know anything about that stuff or anything!!! (a-hem)
Glad that Jess made the trip okay and is helping you today honey. I know that you have to feel better being all spiffed up and prettified.
Again, thanks to all you dear T's for taking such good care of our friend.
Prayers continue, candles are lit and my thoughts are with you.
I love you like crazy, honey.
K
Ah, Debbie, your friends Kris and Mo have such a poetic touch, don't they? A very hard act to follow.
I too am glad that Jess is with you, I know how she brightens your spirits and fills your heart. She's definitely your angel.
Sorry about the girl troubles, that really sucks at this point in your life. You should be past all that junk, shouldn't you?
Sorry to hear that Mike has done so much damage to his knee. I hope he follows the doctor's orders and takes good care of himself. Knees are buggers to fix!
My love and prayers are with you all.
Cathy
Joe, sorry you even had to blog about the female follies.. what a drag to have something go on "under the hood" on top of everything else!! Didn't know the proper name of marinol,, just hear it's popular in sf.
Wonder why the ANC is increasing, but the wbc is holding steady?
Deb, i hope you get some appetite back soon, maybe cutting back on the tpn will help...

Mrs Teklits,
So happy you got to spend the day with Jessie today! I know how nice it is for you to have her support by your side. I hope you are resting well today!

Dear FODs,
Just another little reminder about the walk for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. This is Jessies' website. She is walking in honor of Debbie in Washington D.C. If the link above does not work, go to
www.lightthenight.org and search for a participant by typing in Jessica Khouri. We also have 3 other FOD participants...Cathy Goodyear, Sarah Goodyear and Megan Noon. There is a picture of Deb w/ Emma and Christian as a little bonus. Please contribute if you can. Sorry to be a broken record.
Love, Mo
PS,
Jess, that's a great pic of your Mom and the babies.
OK, the whole address did not show up, so please, just go to the website.
Sorry, Mo
Busy today mo????/
Boy Joe, Announcing Debbie has legal pot to a bunch of 40 and 50 year olds. Poor Jessie is really going to have her hands full policing the visitors! Gee, maybe you should pack Debbie up and put her on the beach. We never had any trouble eating there. I read everyday Debbie in hopes of some good news. Hang in there. Some good news is right around the corner. You are in my thoughts.
Back to the "good ole days"..now that's what I'm talkin about!!! Yea for Marinol...and not a moment too soon I'd say,,, if you Do get hungry for something exotic or anything you want ,just say the word and it'll be on your doorstep(ffrozzen solid ,and ready for your microwave)...bacteria free right?? Wow, Jess, a pedicure for Mom ??I can't think of much that's better at the moment ..you're great... You deserve it and much, much more Debbala...Have a good nite Sweetie...Lots of LOVE and HUGS XXOO :)Bev
Our very best thoughts and prayers are headed your way...thanks for the continuous feedback, it is so nice to be able to see how you're all doing each day. We look forward to hearing some good news soon!
All our love,
The Booth Family
Dearest Debbie and all the Ts,
You poor darlings, what a struggle. Jess you are the nightingale right now. I know how it must help you to help your Mom.
Debbie, I always think & pray for you through out the day, but especially around 5pm.. haven't felt it appropriate to gather strangers to sing with me this week but feeling helpless on the outside wanting to somehow muster up good vibes for you. So I got to thinking "what would Debbie do?!" and then I thought about all the kind things you have done for FODs et al and the strangers you nursed... I consider myself kind & thoughtful, but like everyone I can get caught up in my own little stressful world and forget to take time to be nice to the people I meet in stores/on the street. So for the last week or so I've been performing "random acts of kindness" for you... It's been quite fun actually and it makes me feel like I'm spreading your light in a different way....
For example,
Last Thursday, I drove through the cash line at the Baltimore tunnel line and paid for the car behind me and asked the toll booth guy to tell them to "have a nice day"... this is something I usually do every Christmas & Thanksgiving as I drive up to PA but hey, it was Debbie day and worth celebrating...
Friday I was getting "free" paper for returning my used toner to office depot. I had been chatting to an old guy while waiting in line. They would only accept one used toner cartridge a day so I got my one reem of paper, normally I might have tossed the toner in my purse for a future visit, but it was another Debbie Day.. so I turned to the old guy and gave him my other toner and said "this will get you free paper or 3 bucks off.. you have a brilliant day!".. the smile on his face was a smile for you Debbie...
so that's my latest.. random acts of kindness for complete strangers, and afterwards I say a little pray for you. I'm hoping Karma Karma Karma... comes Debbies way.
Can't wait until I can meet you, and you can fill me in on all the FODs et al.. the burned knickers and all!
Debbie many many hugs and love going your way. Hang in there.. one set of footsteps in the sand will soon turn into two especially now you have the "magic" rx!! you did say you were a hippie!....
Love visitor alison.
Hey Fods.. this has nothing to do with Deb.. sorry deb, im using your site to ask if anyone there knows anything about st. josephs university? my son, who is a senior , got a brochure and letter from this college also implying he could qualify for a large scholarship.. Not sure he is catholic school material, especially when he told me after reading the letter that the school was a Jesus... it.. school! and proceeded to asked what that meant... just if you know of anyone, or heard of anything.. thanks.. and deb..im still thinking and praying for a great new week!! mdf
dear Deb Joe and family.
I just got back from Eileen and Daves/
We all went to church this morning together, and then back to Eileens for dinner Dave had a special cookout for my Birthday.
We had sirloin steaks grilled.
Yes from one of his longhorns.
We had a nice day together A birthday Cake and all the trimnings.
I wish you could get your appetite back. It will come and when it does look out.
I am praying for you and all
your family.
God Bless All Of You
BIG HUGS
Your Aunt Angie
P.S. Joe I Love you
Hey, Deb:
Marinol lasts a few hours; "Girl troubles" last a few days (unless you're Deb Shelton); Pedicures last a few weeks; Bikes last for a few years; but the love of your family & friends will last a longer than a lifetime, my sweet one.... & you got that!!!
Exercise a bit; eat what you can; rest a lot & hope all the time.
Boy, we miss you. Love you, love you, Lee-Lee
Well Chiz, I'm back. Thinking of you again and hoping you are having an easier time of it.
The mention of your girl troubles reminds me of another night of girl troubles that you had about 30 years ago.
There was a cocktail lounge next to Memorial Hospital - of course, the name of it escapes me (too much marinol?)
Anywho, you were having the girl troubles and I, being your best bud had just the ticket to cure what ailed you.
Blackberry brandy.
Despite the fact that you said it tasted like cough syrup, you prevailed and tossed back a couple of them.
Then it came time to leave...
"Chizzie...." you hissed in a panic as you groped beneath the table, "I can't feel my knees!"
"That's because you're feeling my knee" I replied...
This was the night that the phrase, "All you have to do is make it to the door" was born.
And yes, you made it to the door in fine style.
I love you honey and am praying wildly for you tonight.
K
P.S. Allison - you are uncanny!!!! I too, have been performing acts of random kindness here and there for our girl Debbie.
God bless you and all the other Foddie's who gather here.
Hey Debbie and Joe:
Looks like Aunt Angie beat me to it!
Just love reading all the bloggers. The marinol sure caused some flashbacks for some. But the "visitor" after all that chemo! "For you-know-who's sake!"
I am hanging online trying to help Mere. She has to turn in her Theology paper at "turn-it-in.com" It is one of those online sites that checks for plagerisim". She can't remember her password and the school website is down that they send her the reminder email to. So she is studying and I am trying to get her school site up so she can proceed. Of course...turn it in.com closes shortly after midnight. She is bumming right now as we are down to 45 minutes to go. Lessons learned. As she told her student council moderator. I am organized but a serious procrasinator.
All else is great here. Colin plays the cross town "public" rival tomorrow on JV. Should be interesting.
I will keep you posted. Joe what happened to the Domers?
I will try some random acts tomorrow Alison. That sounds like fun. No tolls here in MO but I will find something.
Lots of luv! COD Eileen
Oh By the way...DOC Dave agrees with Michaels course of treatment. That and 1.00 will get you 1/2 cup of coffee in Philly I am sure.
In keeping with Allison's random acts of kindness, there's this:
Today's Daily Word - Monday, September 25, 2006
Kindness
With every act of kindness, I send a lifeline of love to someone.
What does being kind really mean? I know what kindness feels like when I receive it from a friend who is gentle with my emotions and thoughtful of my feelings. Then I know I have experienced the kindness of someone who has a reverence for life.
What a delight it is to lovingly hold a newborn baby in my arms. As its tiny hand wraps around my finger, I have an understanding of the baby's simple, yet fragile needs. This is how it feels to be kind.
With joy, I discover ways to act with care and compassion toward others--creating a lifeline of love in action that connects from one to yet another.
Kindness is love in motion, given and received in appreciation for all creation.
"I was to them like those
who lift infants to their cheeks.
I bent down to them and fed them."
--Hosea 11:4
kmclay.. wow todays word is so appropriate, there are no coinky dinks right?! incredible that you too were doing random acts of kindness..
Debbie,
Hope today you are mellow, feeling less yellow... and got the munchies big time...
Lots of love visitor alison.
MDF - I have two daughters that graduated for St Joe's and they loved it. Great school.
Debbie - I'll bet you have that O.P.I. nail polish on call "Red Drives Joe Crazy".
Sounds like you had a nice weekend - Jess, new P.J's (I'll bet they are adorable).
Love you xoxo
Yikes!!! The girls graduated "from" St Joe's (not for)
Where is the grammer and spell check when you need it!
Donna (the I can't spell chick)
good morning deb,
i was just thinking about how this time of year will always remind me of all of us down in d.c. for jessie and walid's wedding. it is such a fun memory. isn't it so ironic that all the little bumps in the road [the lost bus of 'my people'] are exactly what makes the day so memorable. another testament to the teklits family. love you deb. you too 'mr. peanut.'
deb: hang in there, you adr now in hippie heaven-cannabis and narcatics. is mike going to get a second opinion? we love you and pray for you daily. love bob
Deb,
Just a quick note to say hi and I'm thinking of you, hoping today is the start of a better week. Miss you like crazy. Love and prayers, Mo
Debbie & Joe,
We are sorry to read that Debbie continues to have difficult times. Hopefully the staff is aware of what could prod the wbc to begin climbing, & is using it generously daily. Having Jessie up with Deb has to be a "boost" for the both of you. It's the 1st time in our lives that we've read reference having to clean out a refigerator in hospital room of unused food. Without a doubt Debbie has been there for too long a time. Yesterday, while Mom was watching a cooking show on TV, she called me out to verify that it was our Pastor who was on the show with the Chef /Owner of the restaurant Mama Maria in South Philly. Of course it was a show taped years ago when he was a priest serving in one of the churches in the Italian district. Hopefully, the both of you got to watch the "Fighting Irish" pull out a hard fought game Saturday. Hurray for the PSU defense; we're searching for the right words to describe the Nits passing offense . Mike's injury is a serious one, & we hope that his PT is helping him cope. Hopefully today is bit better for Debbie than yesterday; our thoughts & prayers remain with you, Love , Mom & Dad
Dear Deb,
I was sorry to hear that you are still not feeling any better. Keep plugging the corner has to come soon. I just got done with my 5pm prayer. You are always in my thoughts.
Love you, miss you, and want you home.
love, hugs and prayers
jean
