More Complications

Dear Fod's,

Another night of 104-105 temperatures. Just can't catch a break from this. No white counts and spent most of the day going to and from the Nuclear Medicine Department for scans of my gall bladder and liver. They originally thought that a possible source of the infection was a burst cyst in my liver because of the PKD. While the liver is enlarged, there were no other abnormalities. What they did find, however, is that there is a stone stuck in the bile duct of my gall bladder and this is now full of fluid and the likely source of the infection. This is called cholecystitis and the normal procedure would be to remove the gall bladder -- but that is not possible in my condition.

We are waiting for interventional radiology to arrive to take me down to have a procedure done where they will insert a small tube into the gall bladder and attach a drain to allow this fluid level to go down. It is less invasive than a removal and just as effective. The gall bladder will have to be removed when my counts recover. This drain can remain in place indefinitely. They will test this fluid to precisely pinpoint the type of infection and then administer the correct antibiotic to clear this all up. Hopefully, this will get rid of my bloating and abdominal pain. Because it is minimally invasive, there is not a big risk for infection.

Jessie came up for the weekend and spent the day with me and helped me on my various trips to and from Nuclear Medicine. Joe and Jess will stay here with me until the procedure is completed. Hopefully, this will give me some relief from the pain and the fevers.

Thanks for all of your cards and blogs. They help to keep me going through this terrible ordeal.

I love you all.

Debbie

P.S. Interventional Radiology is here now and they will do the procedure tomorrow. Looks like another tough night.

I'm sure it's a comfort to have Jess up for the weekend. You must be catching up on all the news of the grandbabies.

I was surfing Pottery Barn's web site today and they have cotton green striped area rugs on sale. I think we need to put one in your cozy kitchen for your homecoming.

Since it was raining outside today I thought that I would put off blow drying my hair before I came into work. Wet hair and no make-up looks real scary on a menopause woman first thing in the morning! It only gets worse when I put lipstick on with lip gloss and it runs down my face in those little groves beside my mouth. That's when I look like "Alice Cooper".

Lighting my (Debbie copycat) battery packed candles and saying my public prayers for you.

First one tonight ... yeah !

I want to give you encouragement but not sound trifle. They know what the problem is, they can fix it, unfortunately, not until tomorrow, which may interfere with you watching the Notre Dame game. Nothing you have gone through has been easy, but you have made it, and WILL get through this and get on out of there soon. Like someone wrote, I think it was Mo, 40 more days, out of 365 +, you can do it, and we all will be there for you.
I was thinking, maybe at your party, that Dr. Porter can do a money dance ? I am sure we would all line up and slip a 5 spot to his g string to help raise money for research or something. Think about that one tonight... Dr. Porter dancing ..hmmm

With love and prayers for a better night and smooth procedure tomorrow. Ruthie McGinnis

Dear Deb, I'm so glad that Jesse is there with you, I know how much you love having her with you. I'm so happy that they found the source of the infection and now can give you the correct antibiotic. I'm sure that you'll be feeling better real soon. I just put Milana to bed, the kids went away for the weekend, today is Gina's birthday. Ronnie had to be in Jersey for the weekend for work, so Gina joined him. They'll be going to New York city to see a play. I'm making meatballs this weekend so I'll call your boys to pick some up. I can't wait to make them for you when you're ready to eat some. I'll be praying that the procedure tomorrow will go smoothly for you. I miss you, love, Mary

Dear Deb. I am glad they found the source of the infection and I pray that you will start to feel better. Every morning at the school I work at, we say the Pledge and then the principal asks for a moment of silence. I pray for my girls and for you. I've learned to pray quick, as she doesn't leave a lot of time as those elementary kids get antsy. Take care and tell Jessie and Joe hello. Jen and Thomas called from Viet Nam and are having a good time. Love and prayers. GO IRISH. Cheryl (Crone)

deb, thinking of you always. today i was deep cleaning my room and i came across a few teklits memorabilia. one was a picture of joe at joeys cross country meet. he was resplendent in a handsome suit and sneaks. we called it 'lawyer at a cross country meet' back in the day. another was the beautiful poem from jessie and walid's wedding. thirdly was a card about girlfriends that you had given to me a few years back. they are all tokens of good memories. xoxoxoxo

Life keeps throwing you curve balls. I'm relieved they figured out the cause of the infection. Lets hope you start to feel better..... Rich did fine on the stress test, they feel it is stress related chest pain. Carter took his first spelling test this week and got a 100. We took him out for some Maggie Moo ice cream. He picked gummy bears with vanilla, not my top choice. He loved it though. When your better the boys and I will take you out for some ice cream there. Jenny

Debster:
I hereby call all your organs together for a meeting:
Now, if any of you "internal organs" have the "gall" to act out & get infected, you just STOP RIGHT NOW. There is enough going on in the body that nobody else needs to scream out for attention. If you do, you will be puntured or possibly removed immediately. so, BEHAVE!!! For heavens sake, Deb's got things to get back to...

Hang in there as best you can. Love you, love you, love you, Lee

PS: Thanks, Walid for enabling Jess to be with her Mom.

good morning deb, jess, joe, mike, thunder and lightening, walid, emma and christian...and alli too,
hoping your day finds some relief from the gallbladder predicament. deb you are so amazingly resilient, and right now i can hear you say [donna smith style] "oooohhh, i'm not" - but you are and you will look back at this and say "holy hanna, how did i do that?" i was thinking about all that you are dealing with and to heap a blocked bile duct is just too much to absorb, i am so proud of you. do you remember those report card we got in grade school? the left side of the card had categories that i couldn't even pronounce, well you are getting an A plus on perserverance, self control, health habits and whatever else was on that list. keep it up, we love you lots and miss you more. xoxoxokathi

Deb,

Good morning and I hope that this day will be the start of you feeling better after they take care of your gall bladder fluid!! So relieved that they have pinpointed the problem...now to get you some relief quick. Happy to hear that Jess is back in town again. The pictures of Christian and Emma in the Holloween costumes were adorable. Hope next time they are in Lansdale, that you come trick or treating at my door with those two little cuties!! Deb...it reminds me so much of how special you made Halloween for my kids. Every year you would invite them in and after fussing over their costumes you would take their picture. And sure enough, every Christmas without fail we would find that picture in our Christmas card from the Teklits Family. Carolyn and Bobby still remember the pictures, which I have saved somewhere in the house! It always meant so much to them! You always know how to make a holiday/event extra special. So, my camera is ready when Christian and Emma come to my door!!!

Hope the procedure today will be quick and painless and, more importantly, give you some much deserved relief. Our prayers are always with you and lighting my candles now has more meaning. Hi to Jess...glad you are here taking care of Mom! Love to all!

Karen & Bob

Dearest Debbie,
What a terrible, terrible ordeal, hopefully though this procedure will take care of all your fevers and discomfort. Boy oh Boy....

Let me tell you about yesterdays lighted prayer! Myself and Pauline went on a "Chase the Blues Away" Cruise from West Point Army Academy on the River Hudson. What a day! We started drinking at 12 noon! lovely picnic, drinking and with many Irish on the boat a sing song was the order of the day. Of course miss extrovert Alison was leading the sing song... It was a rainey day so you can imagine, I was singing like a lark (a drunken lark at that!). Well I realized the cruise would be over before 5pm and I didn't want to waste the energy of the crowd and wanted to include them on the conference call so at about 3pm I got the attention of the whole boat (about 30 people) and asked them if they had lighters/matches that I had a special request to pray for a friend of mine who was in hospital and needed to get his nibs attention. Well Debbie we sang our lungs out.. This little light of mine, I'm going let it shine... lighters shining brightly those darn lighters get hot fast.. had forgotten that from my concert going days! lol...

We had harmony and everything.. guitars/banjo.. absolutely lovely.. When it came to 5pm we were back on dry land and I walked to the River by myself, lit the lighter and sang out loud for you again.... I'm sure the locals were wondering who this crazy lady with the fizzy hair singing to the sky was!!!

Thinking of you, sending up the prayers (also for other FODS, Mo & Bob you have been through the ringer, hope everyone is doing better this week).

I was thinking of the Debbie Movie.. and thought I would like Brenda Fricker to play me lol!!! she would do a good job of being a crazy Irish drunk singing on the Hudson River. Debbie you will have to play yourself as you are way too special, unique one of a kind for us to find a replacement... Pauline sends her love (my bestest buddy)....

lots & lots of love, visitor Alison
