Waitin' for a Good Day

Dear Fods,

Doctor Porter and Heather visited Debbie this morning. They are concerned enough about the delayed counts that they are now working on a Plan B. They have contacted the original donor to make arrangements for an additional donation in the event that the first infusion turns out to be a failure. They believe that we should be seeing Debbie's counts come up by now, but they also acknowledge that Debbie's system has always lagged behind, and it could just be a matter of a few more days. But they do not want to take any chances.

To get further insight into the engraftment process, they decided to do the dreaded bone marrow biopsy this afternoon. Evidence of engraftment would present itself in the bone marrow some time before it evidences itself in the blood. If they see evidence of engraftment in the marrow, they will stay the course. If not, they will go to Plan B. This seems like a prudent course of action.

Needless to say, Debbie was not happy about the biopsy and I was able to rearrange my schedule to be there for the procedure. Her biggest fear was that the new "Fellow" named Rebecca would not have the strength to deliver a pain free procedure. Deb put her medication demands in well in advance of the procedure and was getting pretty relaxed by the end of the biopsy. We are very glad to report that Debbie gave Rebecca the Silver Medal, behind only Dr. Porter, of Gold Medal fame, for the most pain free biopsy. Now let's hope for good results!

The meds had fully kicked in by the time I left and Debbie was resting comfortably under her quilt and in her own sheets. She endured another painful day and is the epitome of a "trooper." Let's hope for a good biopsy so that we can forget Plan B and that things turn around soon.

Deb sends her love to all.

Hey Chiz-

Well, the good doc must have gotten tired of all us KOD's screeching "you can't hurry cells" and decided to do the dirty deed.

As painful as I can imagine it was, I'm glad to hear that they didn't wait til Monday to do it.

As Allison says, now we know the topic of tomorrow's 5 pm conference call. Calling out for good bmb results.

Glad to hear that you were suitably medicated and hope you are resting comfortably tonight.

Better days are ahead, honey. We just have to keep those stiff upper peckers.

Just sleep when you can, speak to your GOD when you can and know that we are all out here praying our little hearts out for you.

Tessa the unity candle at the Grotto was inspired.

Joe, thank you for taking such good care of our friend and as always thank you for taking the time to post.

Love to all FOD's who gather here.

Love and kisses to you too Debbie.

K

P.S. Hey Mo - OAN = On Another Note.

Deb & Joe: This is Lee. Long time since I wrote. I finally have the internet again. Know that you have been with all of us whether we're writing or not. Whenever you feel it's too much, your army awaits. We all wish there was some way to share the pain. I spent last weekend with Zack, a friend of young Tom's, who donated his stem cells today actually to a "50 some yr. old man" with leukemia. When he was telling me this, I cried, thanked him, hugged him as though he was your donor & gave him a hero's recognition. He was confused by my emotional response until I told him someone else out there is doing this to save my special friend. We will miss you at Nurses Weekend. Remember that NO ONE will ever fill your BURNT underwear. Love you so much, Lee-Lee

Hi, Aunt Debbie. I'm sorry to hear that things still aren't progressing. I think Dr. Porter's plan sounds like a good idea and am happy that your biopsy wasn't as terrible as some of the others. I hope the results come back with some good news!

Hi Deb,

So sorry to hear you had to go through the awful BMB, but I'm glad it wasn't as bad as before. Just keep taking the drugs so you can rest and I hope tomorrow brings good news. You sure deserve it.

Love,
Jeanne

Speaking of "burnt underwear"...I'm sure gonna miss my arsonist roomie this year. Just goin up to Lees' Sat. am and will be back Sun am. Candy is having a small gathering for Aunt Millies 88th b-day Sun. afternoon.
Feels like we've been going non-stop for 2 weeks now. We go to see Dr. L tomorrow...maybe she'll have some news about Bobs sct and donor.
Tom is taking my parents home tomorrow after work. They are anxious to get back...you know Mary. Can't you hear her saying...Debbie, 2 weeks is too long, we need to go home. But they both want you to know that you are in their daily prayers(and believe me, they have so many different prayers to so many Saints that it's practically a day long event)and have great faith that you will turn the corner soon. Now we will all be chanting the engraftment prayer, as we await the BMB results.

Hope you're still resting/sleeping all snuggly under your quilt like Joe described. May the dreaded ghosts stay away tonight...unless you're dreaming up one of those pool boys like Kris used to talk about. He might be kinda nice to chat w/ for a while.

Oh, OAN(ahem), did I miss something? What is a KOD? I thought it was a kid of Debbie until Kris referred to all of us as KODs. Oh I'm so confused...that's my Vinnie Barbarino imitation...yes I was still glued to the tube in the 70's.
And yes, Megan does sleepwalk and sleep talk, but she comes by it honestly...her father and grandfather both did it before her. My father actually walked out of a 2nd story window when he was a kid and was not hurt. His brother followed and broke his ankle! Go figure.

All our love and prayers,
Bob and Mo
Mary and Joe

Dear Deb:

So sorry things aren't going according to plan, but when have they ever? I'm certain that when this is all done and you are healthy as a horse, Dr. Porter and his associates will be rewriting the textbook on stem cell transplants. I'm sorry you've been so uncomfortable, sweetie. We all wish we could do something to make this easier for you.

I will miss seeing your smiling face at this wedding, as will my entire family. We'll be thinking about you on this special day, wishing you were sharing our joy. I'll make sure I get pictures to you as soon as possible.

One more thing--good numbers today for Amy! Yeah!

Love,
Cathy

Debbie:

So glad that the BMB is behind you. Now you can watch the Penn State vs ND game on Saturday without that hanging over you. Who do you root for?

Brendan said on the way home from football tonight that going to Penn State would be "swwweeeeeet!" of course noting he probably wouldn't be playing football if he were there...but closer to the Crispino's.

He also proclaimed today to be running for Student Council president for the 8th grade. He is running against 3 girls. He has it all figured out. The girls will get split votes from all the girls and all the boys will vote for him. I said what about the boys who like the girls...he said "Mom that would only be one per girl"...I beg to differ. Elections are Friday, September 15th...stay tuned.

All the rest of us are grrrreat! Have a wedding on Saturday of a dear friends daughter (another one that babysat the kids) and then I have a pleasure trip to Tucson...with a friend from Dallas. It is a Needlepoint Guild Seminar. Deb you know how I love that!

I will be wireless so I will check in on you as if I were here.

A Plan B! Sounds like a plan.

Hang tight and I will keep on the group 5 pm prayer detail.

Stay rested. Love to pieces...
COD Eileen

Dear Debbie,
Good morning, just a quick hello before I'm off to work. Time to get question of the day restarted perhaps?
The last couple of questions for those who need to catch up were - What do you and how did you come to do it - wonderful FOD life stories! a trivia one "what's in your wallet" which proved as always fodder for fun!

So today, I can't remember the guy who interviews the actors in front of theatrical college students(?) but he asks a serious of questions at the end of each interview that I thought would be good ones for us here....

What is your favorite sound?

Apart from hearing "Mom I love you" or "Sweetheart I love you"... and not withstanding my love of music where hearing an old blue eyes song can bring me right back to my childhood and my Dad singing to me.... I LOVE the sound of raindrops....... particularly when I'm snuggled in my bed and know I don't have to get up! snuggling back under the covers to the rhthym of rain against my windpane .... even sitting in a car listening to the rain pound the roof top... I guess it transports me home to Ireland and camping trips (oh yeah it rained a lot during our annual holidays with 6 of us in a 4 person tent sining "every shal la la la every wow o wow" and other Carpenter classics...)... yep I guess when I'm not running to escape the rain I love to listen to it....

Dear Debbie, it looks like we have quite a conference call going today at 5pm... I've filled with tears (those stupid mushy happy/sad ones) several times reading the blogs.. from our wonderful young donor story to knowing that at the exact same time we all stopped our day and prayed for you... I particularly love the white rabbits sign.. oh yeah baby those WBCs are on the way just like magic...

Lots of love, visitor Alison

Morning Chizzie and FOD's-

Up thinking and praying early today Chiz. Now I'm getting ready to take the Boudreau for a walk. Just wanted to check in and say hey and tell you I love you. Hope you had a restful night and are feeling wbc-ish today. Well, the Boudreau just rang the bell and you know what that means...

Burnt underwear?
I'll check in later, honey.

Mo - well, KOD's started as a typo but now I'm thinking about everything it COULD be. Kissers of Debbie? Kinkajous of Debbie? I'm sure you FOD's can help me out with this...

Guidance

The light of Spirit guides me to my highest good. My life is blessed.

Each day brings questions about what are the best actions to take. Perhaps I have issues to consider about a family member or my work, and my thoughts seem to be taking me nowhere. Then I know to take time to stop whatever I am doing, quiet all my thoughts, and let the light of Spirit flood my soul. The light of Spirit then guides me to the highest good for all.

How wonderful it is to realize that I am never alone in making the simplest to the most complex decision. There is nowhere I can ever be where Spirit is not, for Spirit and I are ever one.

"For you shall go out in joy, and be led back in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall burst into song, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands." --Isaiah 55:12

good morning deb,

would like to take credit for the gyna colleges blog, but i can't. pretty cute and i'm sure it brought a smile to you. thinking of you and the umbrella holder all the live long day.xoxo in response to the qod, i love to listen to crickets. i imagine them sitting in their secret places all wearing tuxedo's for their nightly performance. have you ever listened to them and all of the sudden their is an absolute silence, they stop as if on cue and start up again. mo, i think the underwear story begs telling. especially since the accused is still under gag orders!

Good Morning Debbie,
Hope you slept well last night. Sorry to hear you had to have the biopsy, but I was glad to hear that it was much more tolerable than some that you've had. As anxiety-provoking as it is that those shy stem cells haven't showed up yet, at least the docs are thinking one step ahead instead of just scratching their heads and saying "hmmmm".
I went to the mall Wednesday with Jess, Christian and Emma. I would have hardly recognized Emma she's gotten so big! We had a good time shopping and it was great to see Jess and the kids again. I really do wish we lived closer so I could see them more. Christian is such a talker too... I have to get caught up on baby-speak.. I misinterpreted a lot of what he said! But he kept calling out from the stroller "Jenn", "Jenn". Just to make sure I was still there. So cute!!!
Anyway... try to relax for the next few days until you get the biopsy results, there is nothing else to do but focus on staying comfortable and thinking healing energies. We'll do the praying!
Love,
Jenn Kelleher

Morning Debbie ~

I loved Bev's rabbit story! Let me see what I can do to entice those little wbc buggers to come out. Oh yeah, I can hang all my big, suck-me-in, white underwear out on the line to dry. God will see them as a sign that we need those little WBC to come forward!

Alison my favorite sound is the sound of a train whisle. To me it's a comfort sound. When I was growing up back in the day when there were dinosaurs the trains would travel through our little town and blow its whisle at the road crossings and I would just fall to sleep to that sound.

Debbie get your rest and remember that you have the gift of family and friends that are praying for you to get well. Bloggers we have a 5 p.m. date tonight!

xoxo Donna Tea Bags

Debbie & Joe,
We were sorry to read about the possibility of the need for a Plan B, but if that's what it takes to be successful, so be it! We would have preferred reading that Debbie's system was a mite slow in the engraftment process, & let's hope that is what the bone marrow biopsy will subsequently show. We also hope that you are feeling well enough to see & enjoy the ND - PSU game tomorrow. We won't ask who you will be rooting for. We'll be praying for a good biopsy report, as well as that your days of torment will soon be over as you drive finally for home. Love, Mom & Dad
