WBC Chant Needed
Dear Fod's,
Give me a "W", give me a "B", give me a "C" -- you get the idea here. Or maybe it should be "We Are -- WBC" ?? or something like that. We are still waiting for the little buggars to arrive and to work their magic, but no sign of them yet. Dr. Porter thinks later on in the weekend and we sure hope that he has read his WBC schedule correctly, because I am feeling very tired and I am getting tired of feeling tired.
The sore throat is getting worse by the hour and is now travelling down my esophogus and into my stomach. This is know as mucousitis and I can hardly swallow my pills now. This is not life threatening, but it is extremely painful. The doctors have convinced me to get a PCA pump which means "patient controlled anesthesia," which will hopefully control the pain and enable me to eat more. Otherwise, they will start TPN. This is an alternate food source that is 50% sugar and is just a colony for infection, so I hope not to have to go there. I am trying to eat -- and had a can of bean with bacon soup, delivered by the accused, and some rice pudding for dinner, which I was able to eat and was tastey. The hospital food does not even get into the room anymore. I cannot even stand the smell of it.
My platelet count was only 8 today, so I got a unit. My hgb was 7.6 so blood should be delivered shortly.
With each passing day I am closer to getting my immune system back and once that starts, this throat pain will subside, and I cannot wait for that. That is it for the report on me.
Now onto you guys, Bev and Cathy, I am praying, praying, praying for Jen and Amy. It was good to hear your news. Ricky, you are so funny. I could see you sitting up in the trees shooting down enemy planes, but I have a hard time believing that Mom let you out alone delivering papers in a blizzard at 9:00 PM at night -- more tales of the youngest?? Alright Allison, forget about the cruise and we will all go to Ireland instead. Your descriptions of the Irish scenery was fantastic. Jenny, good luck with Carter in first grade. With Harrison in pre-school, does this now mean you have a few free hours in the morning? Rich -- good to hear from you. When I was up in ICU and everything was out of wack, I kept thinking that, "I wish Rich was here," because no one was concerned about my kidneys or the fact that I could not pee. When they suggested a kidney dialysis cath, I said no -- but that did finally scare the pee right out of me. That is all for now. The lackey performed his services again this evening, because I am on dilaudid and pretty sleepy.
Thanks for all of your blogs and cards, they keep me going in here!
Love and kisses to all.
Debbie

Dear Debbie...
"all together now".. give me a W.. give me a B.. give me a C...
W is for... Wonderful.. for that is what Debbie is no doubt...
B is for ..... Bounty of love that from this blog pours out...
C is for ....Celebrations of all that check in every day...
For Debbie you are without a doubt an Angel in every way....
Debbie, can't wait until you get rid of that sore throat and the WBC starts climbing... Dr. P is the man who knows his stuff so we will take his word on Sunday/Monday... I know you must be "sick & tired of being sick & tired"... lots of hugs being sent your way...I'll bring you to Ireland any day.. but I WANT a cruise in the Mediterranean to visit all the lovely places the other FODS have talked about.. imagine waking up in different countries/cultures every couple of days... I like it.. anyone out there had the experience?
Donna--- I love your "funny kid" idea.. Share a funny story about a child you know....
My son Sam, when he was attending Kindergarten, wanted to be treated like a "big boy". So I would lay out his clothes the night before shorts, t-shirt, underwear, socks... and he would dress himself and come out to breakfast..! Well the first day I noticed he didn't change his boxer shorts... I thought.. mmh maybe he didn't like the teenage ninja turtle ones so I left barney ones out the next day! Still he had not changed them, although he had dressed himself perfectly from head to toe. On the third day.. still no change of the ole boxer shorts so I said "Sweetheart you are doing such a good job getting ready for school all on your own...but Mum noticed you didn't put on the new boxer shorts" He looks at me big blue eyes twinkling with excitement through his bleach blond hair and says "oh Mum it's OK, we used "Bounce" remember, "Bounce keeps things fresh for up to 3 days!".... the power of advertising... my poor little tik had somehow interpreted the ad for dryer sheets to mean he could wear the same underwear for 3 days.... lol....
Lots of love Debbie, praying, wishing hoping.. give me a W....
Debbie & Joe,
It's nice to see that you haven't lost your sense of humor, but instead of the "give me a WBC, we prefer the "We are WBC" because we've got the rain gear packed & are all set to hear "We are PSU" all night long at Beaver Stadium. Of course, I just sit there while they chant, but Rick more than makes up for me. My concern is can I walk up 75 steps to Rick' seats with boots & rain gear; if not, he'll just have to carry me up the rest of the way. We're saddened by your having to undergo mucousitis again, & wish that that pestulant would go away & "get lost". We're not sure which is a better alternative between the pump or TPN, but we're sure that Debbie "the nurse" will take over & make the appropriate choice. While I'm at the game enjoying myself Mom will either go the Shrine with the girls, make cookies, or knit her heart out, Her preference is the Shrine but the weather will dictate her alternatives. We hope that tomorrow is a better day for you & that "the little buggers" begin to engraft & begin showing themselves on some sort of an adequate measurement system. Love, Mom & Dad
Hi there Honey Bun ..I just did a long post on yesterdays blog site..I forgot to switch up after reading all of the blogs ...the jist is ..thank heaven for the pain pump and for heaven sake USE IT!!! What else coming from me...also, that I picture Alison as a Maureen O'Hara look alike..I was talking to Mo and she said she thinks more like the actress from My Left Foot..whomever, I love the "tours" you take us on Alison ,and certainly can't wait for a real live one sometime in the near future( We'll just have to put Scotland on the back burner Debs..Nancy can meet us on the Emerald Isle )...I haven't stopped chanting white count, white count, white count...I'm even saying it in my sleep and I'm up to my sixth day of the Divine Mercy Novena and Chaplet ,with your WBC's as the special intention...by Monday, the nine day novena will be over and hopefully, along with everyone elses' prayers and such your count should start to climb...I know this will be so..in the meantime I slipped in a request for that dang sore throat to take a hike..it really sounds dredful( I HATE sore throats) ,in case you didn't get that.. WBC's ,WBC's ,WBC's ,WBC's..W is for WOW, isn't Deb the cat's Meow...B is for BEHOLD as we see the cells unfold(imagine)..C is for CHANT or perhaps we all can rant, anything to get attention.. did I even get to mention ....what we really need to do...is drop the other shoe( couldn't think of anything else to rhymne) Oh well, you get the idea ..I'll be chanting the chant for the next few days ,in the meantime take care sleep tight , love ,hugs and prayers AND chants, and don't forget the smile part!! xx oo :)Bev
Just an addendum, I started writing my post at 6:30 P.M. and finally just posted ( it took me THAT long to think up a chant) ,and I finally looked at todays posts...great job everyone ..the chants are fun and inspiring those white cells should be growing by leaps and bounds!!Nite, nite :)Bev
Deb, i know it's getting so hard to be patient, but you've done so well so far.. a couple more days and hopefully those wbc's will be hip hopping inside of you!!Meanwhile,,this throat thing is totally annoying.. wish there was some kind of local numbing action you could give it...
funny kid stories?? I work in a kindergarden so i actually get to hear them all day.. but my own youngest son met his "adopted cousin" 3 years ago for the first time.. a great kid who is a beautiful mixture of puerto rican and black, and my son asked me after he had spent the day with him if he "knew he was adopted?!" i told him that i thought he had a clue!!(my sister has blonde hair, blue eyes, and husband has brown hair, blue eyes.. ) loved it that he didn't notice a difference though..
i got where i am now due to having children.. didn't want to work while they were young.. so when they went ot school, so did i! just odd jobs at the school while they were there so i would be home when they were.. somehow, i started to work sp. ed.. and eventually hooked up with this great k teacher and we have alot of fun at work with the kids. some sad stories also...."mom's in rehab, crack assict, dad abusive,...another boy saw his dad get shot...severe autism.."things like that.. but they are just great kids and so much fun to see them light up when they finally "catch on" to something,,no matter how little it is!! I think now they think of me as a grandmother figure.. i actually told one mom the other day that her son was doing much better this year cause he hasn't called me a mother***** so far!!so..there you have it.. Deb.. i pray and chant all the time for you!! Mark has a bb tournament this weekend in sacramento.. its 100 degrees here again..yuk so your cool weather sounds inviting.. i better go, i hear the puppy tearing something.. take care.. love, mdf
Well, now it's windy and raining and the temp has dropped further. We all have warm PJs on and I put blankets on the beds. Gonna go to bed soon, say my prayers and catch up w/ Inspector Lynley. Which reminds me...does Alison know the origin of the peckers up phrase? There's not too much "P" talk on the blog this time around.
Hoping and praying that those wonderful white cells start showing their pretty little faces soon...I was actually using more derogatory adjectives, and thought I'd better make nice to your white cells, especially my favorites, those sweet and perky neutrophils...olly, olly oxen-free...come out white cells so Deb can come out and play. Sheesh, now I sound like Donna TB(not so flattering when you use the tea bags initials).
Okay, so I'm all in. Tomorrow we have to go shoe shopping for my father(will the shopping madness never end???), and than we should be all done and ready for Monday.
Except for a hair appt for my mother, but at least that's not shopping.
Now, use the pain pump. Like Bev says, pain just wears you down and saps your strength. They can give you other drugs for the side-effects occurring down-below. Hang in there Deb. You are NEVER far from my thoughts and heart.
Love, hugs and kisses, Mo
I don't recall a joke from today, this is an oldie, but still, I think, hysterical.....Mo
A woman from Philadelphia and another woman were seated together on a plane.
The woman from Philly, being friendly, says: "So, where you from?"
The other woman says, "From a place where they know better than to end a sentence with a preposition."
The Philly woman sits quietly for a moment and replies: "So, where you from, bitch?"
Morning Debbie-
Gee, today would be a great day for a few WBC's to start showing their lily-white faces, wouldn't it?
Man, I am FEELING those cells starting to trickle around your system. Hopefully they are joined by the meds from your PCA pump and you are resting more comfortably and swallowing better.
Looks like Ernesto has arrived here in Central Jersey this morning. Lots of gusty wind and blowing rain. Had to take down "your" wind chime it was blowing so hard. Looks like I'll be staying close to home today.
Loved Mo's joke and hearing everyone's "what I do and how I got there stories" Tessa - I worship you and your computer skills! mdf - god bless you for all you do. I imagine you are both so good at your life's work. Rick - I just have to say that I used to have a huge crush on my paper boy. All you nurses - well, you guys are just the best. My hat is off to you for just hanging in there and taking care of the world. Love hearing all the "kid" stories too. So many cute ones - I know that you're enjoying them so much honey.
Well, guess I'll close for now.
Love you and thinking about you- K
P.S. am I the only one that saw the article on the limits Penn State is putting on tailgating this year???
Good morning, Deb.
I was out in the rain at a James Taylor concert last night. You can imagine how much fun that was to sit in the Allentown Fairgrounds bundled like it was January, trying desperately to keep the raindrops off my glasses. Fortunately my ears had no problems with the weather. What I won't do to listen to Sweet Baby James!
I've thoroughly enjoyed reading the blog comments this morning, I too will join the chant--WBC, WBC, WBC. I'm certainly hoping Dr. Porter's timeline is accurate and your throat begins to mend real soon. I've heard of a great home remedy for sore throats--cosmopolitans. Although you can't sneak a bottle onto a plane these days, Penn might be more lenient?
And add my name to the "cruise" list, I'm already packed.
Love,
Cathy
Hey Debbie:
Always thinking of you. Yesterday was a dress down day at the high school for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. As I ran into the cafeteria for some lunch I stopped to visit with a mom whose nephew has leukemia. So we chatted...I signed up for the dress down day in your honor but I don't work on Fridays...but always have the spirit of Deb with me.
Nothing like making WBC's work on Labor Day weekend. I keep hoping that you get the news soon! I am worried about that throat of yours.
As I look back on my overnight back in March and how much food we consumed and now you can barely get food down...that concerns me!
The first Varity game was less than stellar. 28-8 loss. Thankfully Colin (as Dave says the game was way to quick for Colin) didn't see any playing time. Guess that means he won't be yelled at when they review the tapes.
Mere accomplished getting the students back into the stands. They all stand around the track and it was the mission of some seniors to get them back in the stands. They seemed to have lots of fun. Bee of course ran around and played pickup football on the hill...
Aunt Angie was there as she loves to watch football.
Gotta run...we are going to catch the Freshman game this morning since it is such a nice day...
Miss You...Miss You...Miss You...Hang tough...and lets get those darn WBC's back!
Love to all...COD Eileen
Hello to the Teklits Family!
I called my parents about your most recent blogs, they are away. They send their best, BEST wishes to all of you. And we are all cheering for W-B-C! Hopefully the pain pump thingy will work- and like everyone else said- be sure to use it as much as you need it! Don't by shy ;)
Love from all of us,
The Booth Family
Hi Deb,
Hope you're very busy resting. Geez, what a great day for a blanket and a good book. Unfortunately, I just got in and will be going out again in an hour. That's why I wanted to write, since I just got your machine. Was going to catch you up on our latest doings, but really wanted to hear your voice and see how you are. We're going over to the Aranos for a "pool party"...HA!
Well, that's what it was supposed to be. I guess now we'll just play games and chow down. Hope you've got some company and are having a good visit, or like I said before, that you're having a nice lie-in. Thinking about you and really hope you're feeling better. Praying for the quick arrival of those wbc's.
Love from Bob, Kate, Mary and Joe, and me of course. xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
