Decontamination Day
Dear Fods,
This was the first day since early August that Debbie was allowed out of her room and she took her first lap around Rhoads 7. She is still in a lot of pain and heavily sedated, but her counts continue to rise and they are long overdue. Her wbc is .9 and her ANC is 828, so things are headed in the right direction. Debbie needs to start eating more and she will try some soup later tonight. Right now she is resting soundly after her lap.
The staff is still talking about a discharge and they are converting her over from IV to meds by mouth. She is still incredibly weak and needs oxygen when not on the move.
The decontamination means that I was allowed into the room without gown or gloves and we could touch, hold hands and give her a kiss. Again, all good signs. We will need some good instructions from the hospital on what we need to do when Debbie is home -- she will obviously need help until she gains more strengh. I will not even hazard a guess as to what day the discharge might happen and am trying to maintain a flexible schedule.
We are still waiting for the BMB results to tell us what is going on in there and what the future might hold. We will be going for one more lap soon and then try the soup. Thanks for all of the blogs and cards -- they certainly do cheer Debbie up.
Debbie sends her love to all.

I'm happy to hear that Aunt Debbie is up and moving. She just doesn't give up and she deserves to get out of there and have the martinis she's been longing for! I hope the pain gets better, the counts keep climbing, and she can come home. Thanks for keeping us updated and I'm hoping for good news from the BMB report.

Wow, Deb, what a man you have !!!! The other night he wrote about his plans for a "nooner", and tonight, he tells us "no protection" was used !!!!
So glad to hear of the progress, and , more importantly, the continued plans for discharge. Please put my name down, if you need anything, count me in, as one of the hundreds out here to help you. With love, admiration, and continued prayers, Ruthie McGinnis
Hey Deb,
Sounds like things are still on track, thank God(and I am). That anc is great. You must've been pooped after your lap. Hope the pain is at least tolerable so you can sleep. Wondering whats happening with the drain...is it still open?
Well, I've tried not to write about things that seem trivial, but I have to tell you about Aaron Sorkins new show...Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. If you don't really give a flying fig about this and I certainly could understand if you don't, just skip this part. But on the off chance you do....Deb, it's a great show...the new West Wing. Matthew Perry and Bradley "Josh" Whitford have been hired to take over this SNL type comedy show in Ca., and they are terrific together. Bob even likes it...the witty banter and quick repartee are all there, only this time it's about Inside Hollywood instead of D.C., so I still don't understand half the inside jokes, but I think you'll love it too. I only caught the last 15 mins. of the first show...it's on Monday nights...but I'm taping them now and have the 2nd episode if you want to see it. They ended this last show with the cast of this facetious comedy show singing lyrics that were written to the tune of Modern Major General...so Sorkin must love Gilbert and Sullivan...remember the West Wing w/ Ainsley...He is an Englishman? Anyway, just wanted to let you know about it.
OK, well I haven't written that much in a very long time. So I'll end it here. Thinking of you always, still praying up a storm. Hope you were able to eat some soup and do another lap. Pleasant dreams, Deb.
Love, Mo
PS Ooh Mikey, I think you need a flak jacket for all the flak you've taken. Guess you'll never talk about a girls weight ever, ever in your life again. How's the PT coming along? Bet it's painful, but if it helps I guess it'll be worth it. Let us know if you need anything.
Free and last, Free at last, thank god She's free at last!!! I can imagine how Debbie felt just to leave that room ! you go girl. Delighted to see the numbers are moving the right way, heres hoping and praying for even more good news.

Numbers are looking good, sweetie, just try to eat! Soup is a good start, I think chocolate should be next. And when you're home, I'll be the one baking you a yummy chocolate layer cake. Hope I get to bake real soon, Deb.
Love you,
Cathy

Hello Debbie,
Let me join in with everyone else in telling you how happy I am that your numbers are coming back so nicely. Sorry to hear you are still suffering a good deal of pain. I hope your release is very soon. There's nothing quite like home. I think of you often, keep you in my prayers and will be talking with our favorite nurse on Monday about your good news. Sending lots of love to you.

Dr. Phil proclaimed "The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you've started and never finished."
So, I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn't finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of White Zinfandel, a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream, a bottle of Kahlua, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheescake, some Doritos and a box of chocolates.
You have no idea how freaking good I feel! Please pass this on to those you feel might be in need of inner peace.
Debbie & Joe,
It was a blog we've been waiting for to read, & let's hope that all continues to be in order for the big day to finally arrive. The counts are rising nicely, & as the old adage goes "the more the merrier". Hopefully the soup tasted good to Debbie last night, & that it is the beginning of her enjoying many more hearty meals. It must have been great to be able to go into her room w/o "cap & gown". We're as anxious as you must be to see the results of the latest BMB analysis. The staff does owe you an in-depth explanation of what needs to be in place for when Debbie comes home. That is an enormous responsibility for all of you at home, but we're sure that you'll "take it a day at a time". Nonetheless, it is a bit scary. Hopefully Debbie will be able to watch & enjoy some of the "Fighting Irish" Purdue game this weekend, as well as the PSU - Northwestern game. Love, Mom & Dad
