Here Comes the Sun...
As I sit here at HUP typing this I'm watching mom rest peacefully in the late afternoon sun that sneaks in through her window. Mom continues to have large doses of meds for pain and also is weary from some iv benadryl they gave her for a platelet transfusion earlier today.
Speaking of IVs, the "Christmas Tree" is down to just a few lonely branches - namely, the pca pump and TPN that is hung in just 12 hour increments. The rest of mom's medications are now delivered by mouth and she seems to be tolerating those ok.
The pain people plan to transition mom to the pain patch as opposed to the pca pump later today in preparation for her discharge. Mom's doing her best to eat so that they may soon remove the TPN, however, she's only been able to stomach a few bites of minestrone soup and a butterscotch krimpet. She says everything tastes very bizzare.
We did one lap around the floor today afterwards mom pumped up on her oxygen. She's been using the oxygen less lately, but still needs it for a boost before and after her strolls.
Mom's WBC is 1.1 today but ANC dropped a bit to 616. We are awaiting a visit from an OB-GYN to finally look into mom's continuing 'womanly issues.'
Mom says thank you for your blogs and cards and prayers and love. She can't wait to see each and every one of you. We're in the home stretch now so she is looking forward to sitting down with a cup of tea and seeing you all.

Deb,
Sorry everything tastes weird...can't make it pleasant to try and eat. Hopefully that will improve, and the gyn. people will have some tricks up their sleeves to help things out on that end.
Otherwise that was the nicest post I've read in a looonnngggg time. Jess, you have a way w/ words.
Just a few days to go. Keeping everything crossed and working the beads overtime, honey. Can't wait til you are finally ensconced in your own cozy nest.
Love you so, Mo

Dear Debbie ~
Jess has such a way with writing. I can see you in you bed with the sun on your face.
You have been bless with a wonderful family.
Kevin and I are heading down to the shore to put out some old salty beach chairs. Must be big trash pick up this weekend for us.
And, I just love picking someone elses trash to be my treasure.
Hope you have a warm and fuzzy weekend with your family.
Love,
Your Friend Donna xoxo
Deb, good.. start to eat more.. try bizarre foods, they might taste good! Have to get that strength up for the trip home... glad to hear you're up to doing laps, although i imagine they are very taxing after 2 months in there.. also, isn't that the highest the wbc has been in a long time?
Thank you jesse for the blog..hope all of you guys have a good weekend..love, mdf
Deb,
It sounds like things might be quieting down a little there. And improving every day.
I'm teaching an art class at the high school on Saturday for a friend. I haven't done that in awhile so I'm a little nervous. Next weekend we're heading down to West Virginia to see Sarah. She wants to shop a little. Says she's been thinking about a nice pair of cowboy boots. What's next? Chewing tobacco!
David continues to amaze us. He says law school is actually fun. Sometimes he sends one of his papers for proofing. I run a spell check and tell him it's terrific. Can't make any sense out of it. I have a new respect for the legal profession.
Megan will be home soon. She has really enjoyed this rotation and has decided that California is the place she wants to live. She will be in Philadelphia for her next clinical so she'll be around. I've really missed her.
Just wanted to catch you up on the family so that when I see you, we don't need to talk about that. We can get right to the hot fudge sundaes. And cosmos! And whatever else you are hungry for.
Enjoy the week-end with your family. Is there anything that you all need? Anything that does not require cooking - we all know that cooking is not my strong suit.
I'm sending positive thoughts your way along with a big hug.
Susan
Hey Chizzie-
I can see you resting peacefully bathed in sunshine in my mind's eye as clear as day.
Glad to hear that the Christmas tree is being whittled down and that things continue apace on the discharge plan.
Sorry to hear that the taste buds are off kilter, Chiz. Second that emotion to try bizarre things - who knows? They might just hit the spot. I'm guessing that things will taste MUCH better when you get home.
Keep up the lap dancing and know that I love you -
K
Dear Debbie, You must be so happy with your family all there and the prospect of going home so real! I do hope you will write your story some day(blogs included!) It would be such an inspiration to others. We are headed to the shore also, and I know YOU would love to be there. Someone wrote about the chore of cleaning screens and how you would love to be doing that - so then I quit whining and say a prayer you will be soon!!! Enjoy Jess and all around you....Love, Trudy
Debbie and Joe,
This was one of the nicest blogs in a long time! I'm so glad things are finally turning around and you'll be home soon. Sorry everything tastes strange, but hopefully that won't last long. And, I hope the pain won't last much longer either. Keep getting your rest and soon you'll be nice and cozy back home!
Love,
Jeanne
when i read tonights blog from jess, i felt as though i were sitting with the two of you enjoying an afternoon's peace. in many ways, i think all of us loving fod's do this every day. we are your bulkheads deb. xoxo
Rick, what a great piece of "defence counseling" you"ve given our Mikey...what a wonderful and beautiful ,not to mention true look at women, and all they are and do..you are definitely a generous and learned soul:)thank you indeed...and Mike honey listen to Uncle Rick now while you still got a chance:)... Debs honey sorry I didn't get to catch up on yesterday until today, but as everyone states ,Jess has written the best blog ever ...I have a lovely picture of you basking in that sunshine and getting stronger and healthier as the Jester gives your feet a loving massage...my heart is fiiled with joy in the knowledge that soon you will be back in your own little cocoon safe and sound, surrounded by all the people that love you( we can stand outside the house and wave to you through the windows if need be)....did they give you the rules of engagement yet??? Sometimes when regular food tastes bad or bizzare, eating something with a little kick or more flavorful might actually taste good..when your home if you have a hankering just let me know...I wouldn't want to presume, but maybe a bit of potroast with a potato might actually taste like "more please"..I made a potroast a few nights ago and Will and Dan (who HATE the stuff normally) actually gobbled it up and I had to teach the girls how to replicate the"delicacy"..what a riot ,they FINALLY want to learn to cook...it took all these years...well continue to have a good weekend ,and continue to feel better and stronger ..great job lapping!!Love ya honeyXXOO:)Bev
I forgot to add a note to Mike.. I know a guy who actually used homeopathic remedies and didn't need surgery for his torn ACL...he WAS devoted to the process though..if you are interasted let me know:)Bev
Jessie:
You are the softer side of the Taklits. I always can hear a voice as I read these blogs and there is a certain amount of comfort in your blogs. I am not sure how you are keeping it all together as a mother and a traveling caregiver.
Sports update....the cross town rivalry ended in defeat. We were in the game at the half but couldn't keep up. Halftime score us 17 them 21. Final us 17 them 36. The estimated 8000 crowd was only half of that and no altercations to boot. It began with a prayer and ended with Fr. Greg assembling all of the players at midfield with his own prayer. I am not sure you would see that just anywhere. Thank goodness that is over.
Today it's back to Little League with Bee and then Aunt Angie and I will start to make some Nonnie cookies for Tam's wedding reception next weekend in Tennesse.
No doubt mom and I will talk about you while we are baking. You know we still need to teach you how to make them.
Better run and get in the shower. I will check in on you later. Keep up the positive progress.
Much love, COD Eileen
