Day Outta There!

It was not quick and it was not easy, but we finally arrived home together at about 7:30 PM. Deb called early this morning with instructions for what treats and Thank You cards to buy for the nurses and said that she was packed and on track to come home this morning. I was scheduled to arrive @ 11:00 and got there a little early. Actually, at one point in the morning Deb called me to make sure I was in the car and driving in her direction!

As I was driving by Montgomery Drive (for the uninitiated, that is 5 minutes from the Hospital), Deb called and said that they decided to hang two units of blood to "beef her up" for her stay at home. Of course, I did not know what that meant, but between HUP delivery services, breaks, lunches, visits, etc., we finally left the hospital at about 6:30 PM or 8 hours after I arrived. Their processes are simply beyond description.

Our master MD of disinformation threw us another curve ball today. As you may recall, we were told that Deb would have 4-5 weeks of a rest at home, go in for the bone marrow as an outpatient and then we would be told where we stand with the disease. Of course, yesterday that was moved up to a bone marrow on the spot and then we would come in in two weeks for the CAT scan and we could learn the results of the bone marrow. Well today, the visit has been moved up to Tuesday and is completely disconnected to the CAT scan! So we get 4 days of "blissful ignorance" before our crystal ball gets read. Since I am in Court on Tuesday, the visit may get moved to Thursday, but I am thoroughly disgusted with the process, and apologize for complaining the last two days.

When we arrived home, Deb enjoyed her new kitchen, hugged her boys and Miss Allie, looked under the table more than once for Simmie and was thoroughly contented. She ate a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich, with a pickle and was happy. She went up to take a bath in her great tub and then had a bad coughing jag and got very weak. We made a mad dash to CVS to get her half dozen prescriptions filled and did our best to dole out the meds to Deb! A few moments ago, Deb seems to be resting comfortably now and we will straighten up the house before turning in. It is amazing how much stuff we crammed into that little hospital room! We will try for a special guest posting tomorrow before going to a weekly format.

Deb sends her love to all.

Thank the Lord for bringing you home! We've been waiting forever to hear this news. Jimmy asks me everyday how you are and he actually said he said an extra special prayer the morning of the good news -- GOD really hears every word we say. I want to be one of your visitors as soon as you give the word. Bless you and we love you.

Deb, I'm sure that wonderful tub has been pining for your return. I doubt Joe ever doused it with bubbles and jumped in just for the heck of it.

Enjoy your grilled cheese sandwiches and the wonderful men in your life. Sorry your voluntary imprisonment will be so short lived, but you know you'll be back in a jiffy.

And Nurse Patty, everyone wants to thank you for the extra special care you've given our Debbie. You now can consider yourself an FOD--it's a wonderful fraternity.

Love,
Cathy

Debby and Joe,

Welcome Home, and we could not be happier for the entire family. Now you can begin the recuperative process in the peace & quiet of your home. Let's hope that your next trip to the UofP hopsital will be your last one for a long while. The scheduling process at the Hospital is clearly broken, & all of us would be disgusted as well. We know that you will enjoy being home with the family & having food that you can enjoy eating. Please let us know if we can help in any way. Love Mom and Dad

Congratulations on finally coming home! Now you can relax and recover at home with your family and some good, old-fashioned home cookin'. I hope the coughing has subsided and all of the prescriptions are helping.

I'd be just as frustrated with all of the changes at the hospital. At least you are home now and have couple of days before making the trek back.

We love you guys!

My name is Kris and I have a problem.

I'm addicted to FOD blogging!

Chizzie, I've been thinking of(and praying for) you all weekend. I hope it has been a restful and good one.

Mother Nature gave you a nice couple of days - were you able to walk outside and blow the stink off of you?(as my Grandma Hon would say. She also used to tell us kids to go play in the traffic. I THINK she was kidding.)

Love you honey. Talk to you soon.

Hi Deb & Joe,
I'm sure it was a big relief to finally be home and in those warm surroundings. Aren't grilled cheese and tomatoe sandwiches great .. Saw the boys and Miss Ally Saturday night and needless to say, I haven't seen them that relaxed or happy in quite awhile. Rest up and enjoy Joe's home cooking...My thoughts and prayers are with you guys.

Love, Dick

P.S. Thanks again Mike for picking Derek up at the gas station on Friday

Hello FOD's

I told you I had a problem...
Just in case someone else is having FOD withdrawal here's a quick update:

Stopped by and saw Debbie on Tuesday. She looks good, her color is better and she sure seems less jangled since being home and in her own crib. But the pneumonia and chemo hangover have left her coughing and feeling puny still. Her spirits are strong and as usual, she is thinking of everyone else first!

We didn't have Cosmos - just iced tea and diet pepsi and a nice lunch. Joey stopped by on his lunch hour to check in on his mom. He is the sweetest kid. Love ya Joey - mean it.

As you can imagine, we had a swell visit, burning through our daily word allotment and not finishing our sentences. Laughing a lot too. I think the gals from work were going to be stopping over today. Maybe they'll stop by here as well?

Debbie's appointment w/ Dr. Porter has been moved to Thursday afternoon, which is great because Joe will be able to go with her.

Praying that the news is good and that our girl is well on her healing way. Lighting the candle and firing up the old prayer chain. We're pulling for you Chizzie.

K

"why only the 32oz tub?" anyway...
Had a scarey call from my patrick on monday..i was doing "circle time" with the kindergardners, when patrick called to tell me he was in "lock down"! apparently a 14 yo boy brought a gun to school and it accidentally went off in the gym it hit the cement wall, and a girl got cut from the debris...what the hell is a 14 yo doing with a gun? anyway, thank goodness everyone was fine, boy arrested, and classes went on! Phew... never want to get a call like that again..

good luck tomorrow, i'll be rooting for you from out here in crazy ca... love ya, mdf

Thanks, Kris and Mo for the updates. I, too, check the site once or twice a day, hoping to see 'special guest posting' pop up on the screen.

Wow, mdf- that sounds scarey. Just got word from my daughter that she might be moving out your way-to Santa Barbara this summer or fall. Happy for her...sad for me.

Deb, as always, prayers keep flowing for you. Love, Mussie
