Day 26

Deb had a very wonderful visit today with her nursing school buddies Edie and Mike from Roanoke, VA. It is funny that 30 years ago we were all bouncing around the same pavements, a little thinner and with much more hair -- all around, not just Ms. Deborah -- and now we have a very different reason that joins us together again on familiar ground. Our hearts and our hopes are still the same. We hope for better times.

Donna Teabags did a bobsled run down to visit with her stolen Santas but without her brakeman, on her own and did not crash, as did one of our other friends. She fixed up Ms. Deborah's bathroom with another set of wonderful towels. Deb said that the last set was too nice to have down there and that I was to take them home, store them and not to use them until she came home. Now we have two towel sets that are too nice to have in a hospital, or home without Deb. Thanks for that. I hope to be able to use them some day.

Jessica surprised us with a visit yesterday evening and we have been enjoying Jess and Mr. Christian. The will likely be staying on for a few more days. We are modifying one of my suitcases with a snorkel so that we can smuggle "C" up to see his grandma before her counts fall too much. Although we all know that we are not supposed to, I think that the regulations will be broken within a fortnight.

Mike ships off to Miami tomorrow for his bowl game. His Mom felt sorry for him that he has not gone to a bowl game yet and she sprang for an early graduation present. Imagine, a 23 year old senior who has yet not gone to a bowl game -- the absolute deprivation could explain some things, but I am not quite sure what! And PSU against a 24th ranked team?? Mike is with Deb this evening and has taken down some special gifts from Easton.

Jess and I visited with Deb for about 4 hours today. Deb is getting tired again from the chemo and we are watching for fevers and rashes. She slept for half of the time that we were there and is working hard to cope with the fact that she has been in the hospital for 26 days. Has anyone else been inside anywhere for that period of time? I cannot imagine.

We raised with Deb the prospect of some of the suggested sleepovers (which we think is a great idea) but Deb will need some more coaxing. I will raise it again with her tomorrow and hopefully, we can make a schedule. Admittedly, there is much of this "accept / reject" reaction that is totally illogical to me, and any help with the code would be appreciated. Deb will need our help in the next few days. Jess will help to coordinate.

I will visit early tomorrow since Mike needs to be at the airport by 7:00 AM. Jess will take up some of the middle day tomorrow and I will come down later in the evening to spend the night with Deb for New Years. I will tell you all about her recliner tomorrow. I know that it is better than an economy air seat -- but not sure how much better!

Hoping for better days.

Deb sends her love to all.

Dear Deb,

I will be the broken record here, please let us do what we can.

It sounds wonderful that Jess was able to make it up with Christian. Jess if you need a babysitter let me know. Whatever it takes I think Christian will be great medicine.

Joe, I know you must be exhausted when you get home at night, but know that we all wait for your updates. Thanks so much.

Deb sleep peacefully.

Love you,

jean

Hey Mrs. Teklits!
I just got home and my mother told me you called tonight! She's always so happy to hear from you and she always tells me everything verbatum so I feel like i get to talk to you too! She is hoping to get a midnight call from you. Whenever I give her one she doesn't seem to like too much because she always assumes I'm in jail or something. I mean, really! I'm so sorry I haven't written to you in what seems like AGES, but it is not because I am not thinking and praying for you constantly. My whole family discusses how your day went and we're always happy when it is a good one! It is almost as if you're right here with us! My mom'll say "did you read the blog today??" and we'll always discuss the newest updates. Anyway, I'll cut to the chase and here is your joke:
A policeman pulls over a driver for swerving in and out of lanes on the highway. He tells the guy to blow a breath into a breathalyzer.

"I can't do that, officer."

"Why not?"

"Because I'm an asthmatic. I could get an asthma attack if I blow into that tube."

"Okay, we'll just get a urine sample down at the station."

"Can't do that either, officer."

"Why not?"

"Because I'm a diabetic. I could get low blood sugar if I pee in a cup."

"Alright, we could get a blood sample."

"Can't do that either, officer."

"Why not?"

"Because I'm a hemophiliac. If I give blood I could die."

"Fine then, just walk this white line."

"Can't do that either, officer."

"Why not?"

"Because I'm drunk."

I LOVE LOVE LOVE you!! Stay strong! Love, Sarah Schneider

Deb, regarding the accept/reject theories..you can reject my offer to spend the night, and accept Mo's..not much going on here today,,weather is lousy, raining in the 50's , so just hung out all day.. we have one more week then back to school.. im waiting to see when patrick decides to do his homework and my money is on next sunday after Family Guy!
How is your body reacting to the stronger chemo this time around? Are you getting any sleep? I hope you can see Christian, he might be the best meds yet! Will you have to wear a mask?
Not much going on for new years eve, have always thought of it as being sort of a dumb holiday, we have been invited to a bunco party..they are sort of fun, with the boys so most likely will do that for awhile..
well, i'll talk tomorrow..hey kim..have you flashed anyone else lately??
Stay strong and positive..mdf

Hey sweetie. I'm on board with the sleepover theory, but you know that. Mo seems to have painted the best picture, trap door and all. Can't begin to top that one.

I think the best medicine in the world right now is Jess and Christian, enjoy them both.

My prayers are with you for a much healthier and happier New Year. I love you.

Cathy

Praise the Lord and shoot the ammunition,,the really big guns are intown!! Welcome Jess and Christian and not a momoment too soon...all the good medicine in the world is right at your door..the docs are sure to recognize this fact and let the sweet boy in with no 0problemos..right?? Hope you have a really good day and fun visit. Joe, I'd like to thank you again ( since my last thank you ..I can only suppose.. is floating in cyberspace somewhere) you are really one heck of a husband...I'm not sure where IT'S coming from but I only pray IT never leaves you...because we'd all be "up the creek" without your devotion to Debbie and the "blog" (which to some of us are one and the same)our only link to what's happening to our precious Deb..anyway..a big THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU... if you knew how completely computer and typing illiterate I am, you'd appreciate this much more..:)..now on to MISS DEBBALA and the coaxing b---s--t..am I really the only one that can talk to you this way and get away with it??? we'll see now...Debbie girl get over yourself...YOU ARE REALLY SICK...we all know it and we are waiting for YOU to let us step up and do the job. What is in your brain...Joe and the kids can only last so long, they need the second and third strings in now to help win the game( I'm also football illiterate ..I think that's the right analogy) anyway we all know you are strong willed..surrender your will on this point ...it's a begining..and will lead to a positive outcome..please Debbie ..trust me on this...you have the power..let some of it go and it will come right back to you..like magic.. it's God's will..trust him ..He's there for you too..I love you..hope you listen:)Bev

Deb,

So glad to hear that Jess and Christian have snuck into town. What a great suprise! Hope you have a great visit with them. Jess and Joe....I am right across the street if you need a babysitter or anything else in a hurry! Don't hesitate to call.

Deb, we hope you are getting some sleep and hope that this second round of chemo does the trick. You must be feeling like a prisoner and we can't imagine spending so many days in one place, but keep your chin up...we are all pulling for you and know that you will get through it.

I saw Mikey yesterday and we talked about you and, of course, his trip to the bowl game. What a great graduation present and I am sure as much as he hates to leave you, it will do him good to get away and act like a college kid for awhile. (I am sure Miami is like spring break this weekend) He sounded very excited to see PSU, and you know Big Bob and I will be watching it as well. Time to get those PSU and Notre Dame flags flying in the neighborhood.

Glad to hear that you will be spending the New Year with Joe. It is an over-rated holiday and best to be off the roads anyway!! We wish and pray that 2006 will be the year for healing and better times ahead for you and the family.

Stay Strong!!

Karen & Bob

Dear Deb and Joe,

What a wonderful surprise for you to see your daughter and grandson!

Deb - please let your FODs help you, like Patty says "I must keep pestering you about the "sleepovers"... you know me... I WILL NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER!!!!"

Its a great idea and we all would feel like we're helping you guys. I have no problem making the supreme sacrifice of missing work the next day. (Good idea Beth)
I could come down right from work - Joe sign me up! Paul is having a boys only Penn State Bowl Game party on Tuesday night - I could come down then and spend the night with you. We could talk about wedding plans! Margo is pretty much decided to get married in the fall of 07 so we'll have almost two years to plan her wedding! Joe, call me 215-348-1089(H), 215-214-8012 (w), 215=370-1532 (C).

Deb please get your rest, enjoy your family and Happy New Year.

Love,
Barb

Hey Deb:

So I am not the only one thinking your family needs a break. I am still wanting to come up for a stay. I will require no maintenance for Joe. I will stay at Penn Towers and sit by your side for a few days. You people need a break...Joe if you weren't German I would think you were a hard headed Italian....(that is meant in a loving way)Considering we are all hard headed Italians...especially us Crispino's

NYE...my least favorite holiday is here. Just hanging out with a small group of friends, eating(like we haven't done enough of that this week) and playing silly games.

I will let you know when I am coming. Lets see how you do this week and then I will let you know...Love you lots...Cuz Eileen...and the crew.

Hello again! I'm happy to hear that you are able to have visitors again and it was especially a great surprise for Jessie and Christian to pop in for a visit. It sounds like you have many people there to make you as comfortable as possible for your long stay in the hospital. I hope you and Uncle Joe enjoy your New Year's Eve together. Let's hope the new year brings lots of happiness and good health for you and all of our fellow bloggers.

Please tell Jess I said hi and to call if/when she gets a chance.

Love,
Lisa

Debby and Joe,
Yesterday sounded like an up-beat day for you & we are always pleased to see another day in the "good day" column. You have so many good friends & their continual support has been a blessing for all of the family. Hopefully you'll be able to juggle some items so that the Debbie can get to see Christian; we can't imagine anything that would be more pleasing for you than to see "the little man" & his gorgeous smile. Jessie's visit must have been a most pleasant surprise for you. Mike's going to the Orange Bowl sounds like a real treat for him, & if he's anywhere as enthusiastic as we've seen him at the home games at Beaver Stadium, he'll be adding significantly to both the planned "white out" as well as the noise level. Go Mike!! We'd much rather have the both of you be anyplace but at the UP tonight, but we're glad that you'll be together. You continue to be in our thoughts & prayers, love Mom and Dad.

Hi Deb,
Went to see Mo today. Thought she might need reinforcements to help with that sweet grandson of yours(I really just wanted to stop by). He was an absolute angel. Sweet, sweet, sweet. Bravo Jessie.
Anyway, he didn't know I was there...only had eyes for Danielle.
So glad that they could come to visit you. I hope your day was as good as yesterday. Enjoy ringing in the new year with Joe...can't wait to read about that!!
You need to accept what's offered by the FODs and your family. I'd even haul my skinny butt down for a sleepover(if Joe doesn't ruin the recliner).
Hang in there, you can do this!!!!
Happy New Year! Love, Kim

By the way, MDF, no flashing lately. Also, I experienced the Mo pregnant pause today. Was asking her to remind me where they lived. She tells me, and says"Bob has a tan"..pause...pause(I was just getting ready to say "good for him, where was he?", when she finally finishes her sentence. "Bob has a tan truck." Whew!! Sorry Mo, but it's your turn again. I've been getting it for a few days now. K
