Day 25

Deb had her first rough night of round 2 last night -- she did not sleep -- and she spiked a fever. She was on the phone to Joey and I shortly after 6:00 am this morning and she was not feeling well. But she is a trooper and intends to see this second round through.

We got the call today that Dr. Porter would see us between 10:00 and 11:00 today to explain where we are and where we are likely to go. I was able to get there about 2 minutes before the meeting and Deb had a good talk with Dr. Porter. He explained to us that he expected a better response from round 1 of the chemo and he down played the long arm chromosome 6 abnormality. In his view, since we can now see the problem, because of the advances in science, that simply identifies the abnormality. They are still not sure what deleted 6q means in the overall scheme of things and he remained positive. The course of treatment would not change one bit. As I understood it, perhaps the absence of the 6q abnormality would have made the first round more successful, but it certainly does not determine the outcome.

Dr. Porer's advice was that we will continue the high dose course of treatment and have another bone marrow biopsy in 2 weeks. If Deb is clean, we will discuss next steps. If she is not clean, he said that we will have a different kind of discussion.

So, we need to hope for the best for Deb -- send maximum positive energy to the east and keep those prayers going. Nothing else has seemed to work.

Deb sends her love to all.

Hi Deb. I think I've checked a half dozen times tonight, anxious to read how your day has been. Joe has been great in keeping us all up to date on your treatments and how your days are spent, I'm truly thankful for his efforts.

I agree with Patty, I think we should take turns having sleepovers with you. And she's right, it's probably more for us than you. You're doing all the work, we just get to be cheerleaders. Just yell, we'll be there.

Keep up your fight, sweetie. I know you can win this. And what a party we'll have then! Sending you hugs and kisses.

Love,
Cathy

Hello friend,

I agree with all the girls, let us help you for once. We love you and want to take care of you. Mo keep that Irish dander up, they always say it the squeaky wheel that gets heard. This whole thing is not fair. I have had a few more discussions with dad and the man upstairs about getting on the ball and getting you back home ASAP. I have only good vibes going your way.
Take care and know that you have prayers coming your way around the clock. Wishing you a peaceful night.
Love,
Jean

Hey Debbie!

Ever since my mom has been on vacation, I'll come home from work and boot up my computer so she and I can read the latest news on the queen, Mrs. Debbie Teklits. Well, let me just tell you that mom is sure 'techie'. Sometimes I have to stand next to her or be in the same room when she starts typing. Something will happen or she'll hit some key and she is unable to continue with whatever she was doing. She'll start whining and can't figure out what she did. I don't think the woman has ever realized that you have to hit the cursor on another part of the page if you want to scroll down or hit the box if you need to start typing. I wonder how the heck the tech people at her work deal with her. I know if I was her tech person...oh man would I be hitting my head against the wall! Also running to the nearest bookstore to give her 'typing on computer for dummies' LOL! I love my mom!

I have to say Ms. Debbie, you sure have the best seats in the city for the fireworks on New Year's Eve! You better be partying it up and soaking in the excitement for the new year cause it will sure bring you good luck....my irishness feels it ;) No, not the irish santa clause...mom is giving him a bath.

Love you Debbie and keep on fighting woman!

Hey Chizzie-

Just checking in from the road again. This time east of St. Louis, somewhere just over the Illinois line.

Able to get online for the first time in a couple of days to catch up with all your news.

Wow.
Stunned. Kind of reeling with it.

It's reading Joe report that you are determined to see this round through and are keeping your pecker up that gives me heart.

There you go again - helping out everybody else even from your hospital room!

But, I'm SO glad to hear that you are ready to rock and roll again, girlfriend. Cathy G is right - you are doing some heavy lifting on this one but we know you can do it.

May the force be with you, honey. I think you know we all sure are. (Picture an army of FOD's carrying their pc's and reporting for duty in official uniform: Their pajamas.

Aw Chiz - I'm sure thinking of you tonight while off searching for some info on our new Saint. I hope you have a good night tonight honey. Stay strong. Remember Delacroix and the Good Samaritan.

Joe, Jess, Joe, Mikey and Team Teklits - keeping you guys in my thoughts and prayers, too.

Love you - K
P.S. Mo - I am SO glad you will be joining me in the mad-as-hell-and- not-going-to-take-it club. Jean, you're welcome to join us if you'd like. After reading about our dear friend's last two days - I was ready to whip my weight in wildcats. This is actually post #2 for me - my first deteriorated into a profanity laced screed that could not be posted. The Blog administrators would have banned me for sure.

Hi gang!
Deb and Joe, it was really good to get some imput yesterday. After reading your blog Joe, I must admit I was a bit confused like many of the others. I didn't realize stem cell reasearch had come that far that it is a viable option. Don't know much about it. I guess we're going too have to study a lot more film on this opponent Joe. Let us know if we can come off the bench and take the field in any capacity. We are here for you. We love you guys, and don't worry Deb, "The Big Guy" has a master plan in store for you. We must maintain our Faith and accept his Will. You have a BIG! BIG! role to play in this part of the challenge! So don't give up HOPE! Remember the score doesn't lie at the end of the game! :) You've got this one in the bag! Love Artie :)

P.S. You should have a copy of my Cd "Dismissed to Serve" Great music to be inspire you. We want to visit. Let us know! 610-691-6735

Hi Deb!
Reading this last post tells me that we've got to storm heaven. For those who have inquired about Blessed Kateri - here's a website for starters with links to more reading if you so desire:

http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/saintk01.htm

This saint is in need of one more miracle for her canonization process to proceed. This means you have to be cured supernaturally - meaning, no medical explanation. (I'm going for this one!) However, I'll settle for a complete cure by natural means - but nothing less than that! Love you! Susie

Hi Deb...Just saw the family pix - you look awesome! Actually, that's a great look...Sinead O'Connor (in the words of the immortal Phil Hartman) looked like a cue ball, but the "buzz" looks great on you, 'cause of your terrific smile. We love you and wish you the very best. Thanks Joe for keeping us in the loop.

Love, Paul W.

Aunt Debbie,

I'll have to look into the whole chromosome thing, but I did check out the stem cell info online. It sounds like non-family members can donate if you can't find a matching sibling so count me in! I'm sure there have to be a few matches from your whole pool of bloggers!

I'm happy to hear that the doctor was positive yesterday. Of course I don't understand the info quite yet, but it seems like he's positive about round two and so should you! You made it through all of the allergic reactions last time so hopefully this time around will be a little easier.

We would love to come visit but aren't sure whether you are able to have visitors. Please know we are here for you and would love to do something....ANYTHING....to help.

Love,
Lisa

Hi Deb & Joe,

Rest assured that I will join the growing number of those storming heaven on your behalf, Deb! Hang in there on this second round of chemo. Our thoughts will be with you, and your family. I am so grateful that Joe and Jessie keep us informed about you with this blog site. It also keeps you, and your family front and center in our prayers.
By the way I saw your post-chemo picture, and you are as beautiful as ever! You also inspire us with your inner beauty. No wonder you have so many friends.

Debby & Joe,
We were sad to read that you had a difficult day yesterday. We were pleased to read that you did have your meeting with the "head honcho" of UofP, & we are heartened by his remaining positive. We certainly don't understand the significance of an abnormal chromosone but are sure that Dr Porter & company do. We have joined the chorus of saying the novena to Blessed Kateri along with a novena to St. Padre Pio. Please know that you remain in our thoughts & prayers, Love
Mom and Dad
