Second Consolidation Treatment : Day 1

Dear Fod's,

We met Dr. Porter today @ 1:00 and had the lab work done @ 12:30. Debbie's counts had really rebounded -- platelets of 185K and Deb went in again for the second round of consolidation treatment which should start tonight and again in the AM, Tuesday off, Wednesday on, etc. to hopefully get out on Saturday afternoon. The doctor did disappoint us today by telling us that he wants to do 2 more consolidation treatments on Debbie. She very clearly had a much more difficult time coming back from the initial consolidation treatment than the previous rounds and we hope to interject some discretion into this aggressive treatment plan.

Debbies room is 6004 Rhoades and her land line is 215.615.8143. Although we had a slight wait today at the admissions office, it was less than 3 hours and we were able to visit with Dr. Bob who is in Rhoades 7005, just one floor above Debbie. Since we are regulars, they called us on the cell phone when the room was ready and Debbie had another home coming visit with her buddies on Rhoades 6.

As you saw from the weekend post, we had the kids and the kids of the kids for the weekend and everyone had a great time. Christian had his first Easter egg hunt and seems to have gotten the hang of the egg collection procedure in short order! Of course, with a hunt of 1, there was not much competition for him, but I am certain that he will do well in the pack now that he knows what to look for. If he can only resist eating the contents of the egg as he finds them, he will do fine.

We will keep you posted on Debbie's progress during this next series of treatments. Thanks to everyone who has continued to stay in touch. It means a lot to us.

Deb sends her love to all.

Deb,

Well here you go again. I do hope that you bounce back quicker from this round. I have both you and Bob in my thoughts and prayers everyday.
I am so glad that Mo was able to get a ride with Joe. I know that ride is no fun on the way home. Good luck girlfriend. Get home quick.
Love ya,

Hey Deb.. got an answer to "how many of these consolidations does one do?" maybe your bone marrow will adjust to it and you will bounce back faster..lets hope! Still raining here! Think we've had about 3 days without it in the last month and a half..
Know you weren't happy with the more rounds of consolidation therapy..but now don't get me wrong. but sometimes weeds need more than one shot of roundup before they are completely gone.. let's hope that is the case here
Also, want to let you know that you were amazed how loyal your friends are.. well deb..it's just a reflection of you and how you've been to so many people all these years.. finally we get a chance to do something, no matter how samll it may be , back to you....get it??
Hang in there Deb.. the shore/beach time is just around the corner! Well, i better go and finish the Ark we're making.. ttyl..mdf

Debbie:

Doing laundry and thought I would check on you. So glad to see the update but it made so tired thinking of how tired you must be of all this. Good news is that you should have plenty of time to make sure that graduation reservation is kept.

The whole thing that you and Bob are there together is too much. What were the chances?

Tomorrow...Tuesday...Mere and Colin will both be doing shot put and discus at a big meet. It will be fun and the weather looks like it will cooperate.

Brendan is recouperating from a body slam while playing basketball upstairs against Colin...need I say more. He says "a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich would do the trick" and better yet, "Mom did you see all the grease left on the bag"...Thought you would get a kick out of that.

You are here everyday with us as we check in to see what you are up to. Wish there was some way we could share the burden with you but will keep you in our prayers this week as we go through all the Easter preparations. All our best to Bob. You will be the best medicine for him. You are a walking miracle. Love to all COD Eileen

Debby & Joe,
Mom called yesterday hoping to get a chance to chat with you & to her surprise, Joe answered & told us of your being in the hospital again. We were very disapppointed to hear & read that there may be more chemo treatments. When is enough, enough? Hopefully having friends at the same UofP facility may make the days go by quicker, & we sincerely hope that the both of you are blessed with good health again soon. Grammy will be having another Easter Egg hunt here on Sunday, & all great grandchidren are welcome!! You & Joe are always in our thoughts & prayers, & we hope that you'll be well enough to celebrate Easter at home. Love , Mom & Dad
