Post Second Consolidation: Day 8

Dear Fod's,

Deb had a rough night on Friday night. She was up most of the night and was spiking a temperature for most of the early morning hours. We were both up by 4:00 AM and we were wondering what it would be like to try and check into HUP on a weekend. Probably like trying to break into Devil's Island, I suppose. This was one adventure that I was ready to skip.

As the day progressed, however, Debbie started to feel better and her temperature returned to normal. Her symptoms are all probably the natural effects of the high dose chemo. Although she was "dragging" for most of the day, she was gradually improving. We made Deb's favorite eggplant parmigiana and meat sauce Bolognese with special pasta. As the sauces and cheeses filled the house with some very earthy Italiano smells, Deb really picked up. We called Mo who came over with Megan after visiting with Dr. Bob and we had a nice Italian feast on our table. Deb enjoyed her meal with her friends and family and she was doing fine.

I forgot to mention that Mike came home for a surprise visit and Allison came down for the weekend. Deb had a housefull and we all watched a movie after dinner. Debbie had a nice evening surrounded by her babies in her own home. She slept very well last night and looked very good and rested in the morning.

Unfortunately, she has been dragging for most of the day, but without a temperature. Just the post chemo thing. Except for a slight portion of reheated pasta, her only sustenance today was a five scooper hot fudge sundae from Friendly's. I think her numbers are coming back and hope that she can make it until our meeting with Porter on Wednesday before she needs more blood.

We will keep you posted after out next visit with Dr. Porter.

Deb sends her love to all.

Hey Debbie and Joe:

Back home in MO after our whirlwind weekend of college tours. Mere didn't finish Friday night until 8:30 throwing shot put and discus at her meet. It was a 16 team invitational with 7 girls advancing to a second round of throws. Mere placed 3rd in shot overall and 1st in discus. It made for a very late drive to Milwaukee. We didn't make it all the way. At 2 am we decided to stop for the night and get up early to finish the drive. Marquette put on a good show. Milwaukee was much nicer than I imagined. Off to South Bend through some serious construction. St. Mary's of course was equally if not more impressive as Marquette. As we drove home we had to list all the likes and dislikes so we could keep Mere's thoughts straight. I can see why you enjoyed your time there. The town looks very quaint. The trip home was only 6 hours which is in Mere's location radius. We have some more schools we want to look at in the near future so we can plan round two. I am so glad we started now.

The boys stayed at home with some of thier friends families. It was a good move on our part as they would have been bored to tears.

Just spoke with Mom and she managed over the weekend. I had reminded her today to call Aunt Rosie about her upcoming knee surgery. I just called to let her know that we arrived home...(oh..she just signed in on her computer...she is on MSN) anyway..Rosie has postponed the knee surgery because of some dental work she needs to have done. Just a FYI!

I am hoping that you continue to get the strength back and make it to Wednesday without needed additional blood. All the hassles of working the HUP system just seem to be more aggravation for you (and of course...the clever narrator)

We need to talk this week. I hate to call for fear of interrupting some much needed rest.

Keep chugging up the hill and keep your spirits up! I love your eating habits. A friendly's sundae...:)

Take care and continue to rest up....Lots of love, COD Eileen
