Still Stuck At HUP

Dear Fods,

Hello everybody. I hope this post finds you enjoying warmer temperatures -- but I am glad that I missed those 90 degree temperatures from last week. Still here at HUP on day 13 and they still haven't figured out the back pain, other than to say that the leukemia has infiltrated my spine and hip. The pain was under pretty good control thanks to the Pain Control team. Unfortunately, the drug cocktail made me retain urine and I could not go on my own and had to be catherized. Also, it made me constipated. They then prescribed magcitrate (colonoscopy prep drink) and 4 doses of lactulose -- which still didn't work. The nurses went to MacDonalds at midnight last night and a greasy cheese burger got things rolling again but I was up most of the night.

My phosphorus and potassium are low and they are giving them to me IV round the clock. The vidaza went in well -- and the next 2-3 weeks will be when my counts go crashing down and we have to run to HUP for blood and platelets.

I am hoping and praying to get discharged on Monday -- but it will most likely be Tuesday.

Thank you for your cards, calls and prayers they keep me going.

Love,

Debbie

I always found a good cup of coffee and reading the National Enquire relieved constipation. Despite all the "bad news" the good news is you are up, eating, breathing on your own, and antipating discharge later this week. Prayers to you and your family.

Hey Chizzie - LOL about the greasy McDonald's burger getting things rolling. I'll have to remember that one!

Fingers crossed and prayers up that you will be able to go home Monday - and at the very latest, Tuesday.

You say "the pain WAS under pretty good control" - does that mean it's not anymore? I sure hope not, honey. And I'm almost afraid to ask about the fevers...sure praying those passed you by this time.

Hang in there, my Chizzie. Know that I love you.

How about a Daily Word? It's been a while and it's a good one.

Faith

God is the creator and foundation of my life, of all life.

I take a time of silence now. I exhale, close my eyes, and imagine myself in a peaceful setting--one of my choosing that is pleasant and relaxing. In the stillness, I share these thoughts in prayer.

"God, I have faith in You. In every place, in every experience, in every decision, in every circumstance, You are present.

"As surely as I know that morning comes after night, I know that You are the one power and presence. And You are the one source of all wisdom and understanding.

"When, of myself, I cannot see a way for peace or prosperity or healing, I know You show me the highest and best way. You are guidance, wisdom, and strength. In the quiet, I give thanks that whether there is consistency or change, You are the unshakable creator, the foundation of all life."

"He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him."--John 1:7

Debbie, I'm praying for discharge on Monday, Tuesday at the latest. There is a reason why there is that famous saying... HOME, SWEET HOME. Hope you get a good nights rest and that you have a good Sunday so that you can get the heck out of Dodge on Monday!

Patty

hey........LOVE the cheeseburger remedy!
wonder if that will be replacing that horrendous mag.citrate??? maybe we
could suggest it as a way to get more people to do colonoscopies!!!!!one of the docs at work is married to a GI guy who is giving a paper next week-i'll sound him out.
do trust and pray the pain team will find the proper balance and that you can focus on being on your top deck with the sun on your cheeks and the wind in your hair and the gulls flying by screeching their joy that you are back!

Yeah, McDonald Cheeseburgers will do it every time. What a feeling though - I can't belive the drink for the prep for colonscopy didn't work - Now they know how to treat your constipation. Hope the meds are beginning to work and your back pain is minimized and you get home really soon. The weather outside is nasty anyway - so hopefully by the time you are home the sun will be out and the better weather will be here. Hope you have a great Mother's Day. Love you Shelly

Well, just checking to see if you made it home today, Chizzie.

Fingers crossed that you're lounging comfortably in your own bed and sipping a cup of tea (or eating a greasy cheeseburger-hah).

I'll check back later. Getting Mr Marvin ready for his flight. He's got a quick trip to Kansas.

Love you and praying for you, honey.

Deb, we only post once and a while, but we check several times a day to see if there are any updates. Based on the postings of the FODS, if there was a way to exchange friendship for health, you could be an olympian athlete. Remember that all of the FODS good wishes together don't come close to the love that God has for you. Your suffering makes no sense to us, but somehow He is using you to His glory, and will reward you and your family accordingly. Remember God does not miscalculate and He is not cheap when He rewards. Hang tough, we cherish your inspiration. I wish we all could share your pain and take it from you, and I wish we all had your courage!

Love, Bob & Kay

Deb,
It's been awhile since I've written on the blog (always prefer the pen) but that doesn't represent the frequency of our thoughts and prayers going your way. Hopefully by tonight you are relaxing in your own home, and will sleep comfortably in your own bed.
I know that on any given day, I could beat that McDonald's greaseburger! Keep up your spirits... you're the inspiration of all of us, especially mine.
We're thinking of you all the time, and praying for better weeks to come. Love Lizzie
