Day 4

Deb called this morning before six and said that she had a bad night. She had her first "hospital fever" and was very uncomfortable. These fevers/infections are to be expected with the chemo, but that does not make them any easier to endure. Let's hope for a better night tonight --- come on gang, let's get some more of those prayers going!

Deb's appetite was a little better today -- as of the last check, at least. She had some breakfast and some of her lunch, which is way better than the first two days. With everything that is going on, she does not have much of an appetite.

We had three families visit today -- Marian came down, but crashed along the way. She is fine, but her car is not. Careful on the South Street exit -- it is always backed up for the right hand turn, ask Marian. Bob and Kim stopped by and Deb's friend Denise (Denny) stopped late in the afternoon. So long as she is able, I know Deb likes the company and appreciates the difficulties in getting to and from HUP.

I am planning to spend the day with Deb tomorrow and am looking forward to the snowy drive into town. Hopefully, the snow should keep 75% of the people off the road and the rest will take the train.

Thanks to everyone for the blogs and letters. Deb looks forward to them every day, weekends included, and sends her love to all.

Hi Deb! Sorry you had such a bad night. I've been "bartering" with God on your behalf - offering up all those years you spent at the bedside of others in exchange for His help getting you quickly back on your feet. I'm just glad they found it when they did. My Editors husband is getting back on his feet after a bout with melanoma (he beat it). It started as a blister on his foot that grew bigger and bigger for 11 months. He went to every wound center in town. Finally, my Editor and I prayed a novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel that She lead him to healing. Well, she lead him to a doctor who finally took a biopsy of the blister and discovered the melanoma. We were devastated when we first heard - thinking, 'what kind of answer to a prayer is this?' But then the doctor told us how we caught it in time and after 2 surgeries, they're confident they got it all. (He was also a patient at HUP.) Anyway, everyone I know is praying for you and Joe and our whole family. When one suffers we all suffer. (Joe, this blog idea is great. I thought I was the only brilliant one in the family - hehe) I love you both very much and keep you constantly in my prayers. See you soon! Love, Susie

Hi Debbie, Johnny M. here. I thought I would chime in and say hey from down in Southern MD. Not much exciting news to report here other than our anticipation of tomorrow's crappy weather. We just happen to be in the perfect spot for the perfect mix of water and snow to make one ice/slush pile of...well you know. Anyway, I am eagerly awaiting your next visit to the area. We will have to hit Maggiano's again...this time the dessert is on me!! More later.

Dear Debbie,

Hi! I am looking out the window and there's about six inches of snow. The plow hasn't passed through yet. If I can get out, and you want company, I will try to get down to see you this afternoon.

I finally got all the bandanas that you requested. I'll bring them with me.

Hope you had a good day/night yesterday. See you soon.

Love,
Bev

Hi Deb,

George and I check in on you by blog everyday. Wanted you to know that you are constantly in our thoughts and we are storming the gates with prayer. I'm glad to hear Jessie's good news, and everyone else's stories too. Also glad that you had a bunch of company. Hoping for another good day as you head out of week one.

Love you,
Carol

Hi, Debbie! Jess sent me step by step instructions so I can post my love notes to you now, too. Geez, just couldn't figure it out. Joe's posting make me feel as if I'm taking this journey with you. I'm sure we all feel the same way. I'm a rosary person so please know rosaries are being said for you to help you in your recovery along with all the prayers. Hope you have a better night tonight. Love, Kay

Joe & Deb,
We read Joe's posting & now refer to his daily postings as "The Gospel of Joe" for the day.We were sorry to read that you had an uncomfortable evening last night yet we are sure that you are at the best possible place to be for the most up to date treatment.
We got our 5-6 inches of snow whch was dispensed of readily & I did my good deed for the day by cleaning off an ailing neighbors driveway & walks. Joe & Mike, you are both most welcome to join us on Christmas Day for dinner if that is convenient for either or both of you. Other members of the family will be here as well.
